Quit ESO?

I've noticed that the forum still has a large population of people that have quit the game. I'm curious as to what it was that was the final straw that made people leave. Was it changes to the game play, lore reasons, performance, bugs in the game? What actually was it that made you stop playing ESO? Please bear in mind this is meant to be a DISCUSSION thread, not a bashing the game or mods, just a curiosity as to why people left the game.

Incidentally, I haven't left the game and I don't have any intention of leaving. Obviously people still have passion for the game because some that have quit are still posting on the forums.

Please remember to keep the discussion civil.

I personally think this world has so much to offer and once I decide to quit its gonna be either because I found something better or the current game is not up my standard. Nothing out of which I am currently experiencing.

I will quit ESO when Gamigo or another shady companies buys MicrosSoft and turns ESO into P2W

Or they Remove AddOns Support or make them Purchasable for $

Also I always remember that the Forums are full of a Vocal Minority of Karens

I loved this game from start, playing hours per day for years, its hard to just walk away from it. Maybe im still hoping for game to be good again, but zos showed that they care only for new players than veterans. PvP is worse and worse every passing year power difference between magicka and stamina is now worse than ever. You know if you are magicka and not sorc you are just practice dummy... Easy to fix with some effort, but they just doesnt care anymore
And i never forget zos from making argonians healer pacifists. I always loved shadowscales

I have played off and on since release. I originally stopped playing when I got to vet levels because it was horrible. Other than that I usually just burn out and move to something else for a bit (like last time it was when Shadowlands came out and I didn't want to dedicate to two games at once). I tend to come back to play in Cyrodiil and get frustrated at how I still have performance issues. So not really anything in particular makes me leave and it's never really a full on quit.
Edit: My husband quit the first time with me and he won't come back. He says he hated the vet levels and doesn't like the combat in game.

    Lmao.

Beside, I quited the game for 3+ years. And now back again temporarily because I am hyped about The Elder Scrolls mod for CK3.As soon as it releases I will leave for some years or permanently. And I am also a fan of the Companion system and just wish it was more useful.

I think reason I quit is very simple.I get burnt out and the game does feel like 2011-2014 game. The animation and the physics of the game is what bother me the most.

Also when I quitted I visited the forum occasionally. To check what the new updates are about and if the game is improving and so on.Also this is the latest TES(apart from blades and legends) game and so really want it to be it’s best.So that I can experience the lore.

Not sure if I qualify since I more "took a break" versus others who simply don't/won't play at all anymore, but I quit for almost 2 full years around Murkmire's release. And I wasn't hanging around on the forums for a game I wasn't playing, so I'm probably doubly not the kind of person you're asking for insight from here. But for however relevant my viewpoint was at the time, here ya go...

The main reason for me leaving was just too many small dissatisfactions with things in ESO that miss the mark. Little things that seem so easy/obvious/whatever that could/should be done better. Details that just didn't get the attention or polish that better other game studios take care to get right. Stuff like that is kinda big to me, personally. It wears thin after a while, noticing things that bother you literally every time you go to log in. I got too fixated on some things, and couldn't "unsee them" so to speak (since they were part of my normal play, for instance). Some have been addressed, others I've just found ways to play around, and some can be sidestepped by addons now. Plus my own tolerance for petty stuff is a tiny bit higher now, so that helps too. So I'm back, at least for the time being.

Another part of it was also the bevy of questionable balance changes that were going on in and around the Murkmire (aka Nerfmire) era, though. I typically am not terribly concerned with the meta, per se, but whatever ZOS was doing at the time was annoying OTHER people enough that even things that were only a minor bother for me were being discussed non-stop in guilds and such. I like to keep up-to-date with patch notes and things, but some of my friends & guildies were full-tilt "OMG THE SKY IS FALLING" mode over changes and it was just hard for me to enjoy being online. Same with the tone on the forums sometimes, in honestly. It all wore a little thin after a while, and I stopped having fun. So I left, and went to other games for a stretch. And it had fun.

One thing that's likely to drive me away again before too long though is the performance in Cyrodiil. I can't pretend to understand it completely or have all (or any of) the answers here, but... WHY THE FLIP CAN PVP BE SO DANG AWESOME DURING MIDYEAR MAYHEM, THEN SUCH UTTER GARBAGE THE REST OF THE YEAR?!?!

I'm not that deep into PvP, so I can live without it most the time; but ESO PvP scratches an itch I can't really find a replacement for elsewhere. You know, when it actually is in a playable state.

I generally play ESO on and off, I get bored after every 3-4 months and stop playing for about the same amount of time before returning. Lately I have been staying on more often because WoW Shadowlands is a major buzzkill atm, way too grindy and so little to do. It's a good thing the sub is optional, WoW is sort of free to play too if you make enough in-game currency to support it.

I bought the Imperial edition from sale late 2015 and quit after giving it a try because it because it just did not grab my interest. I found everything in it painfully dull and average compared to TES single player games.

After a few years of experience in other MMOs I gave it 2nd try because lack of viable competition in genre. When ESO stops being the best MMO available, I'll drop it with no regrets. It's a good game but hopefully someone can do as good or better with less annnoying issues.

I did quit ESO not long after it came out for just under a year. That was when ESO was in a very bad place. I came back shortly before One Tamriel when ZOS finally got their act together. Since then I have never even contemplated jacking the game in, not even for a second.

I have neither quit, quoted or quitted as others above may have.

When I pick a game to play I generally only leave due to poor management of it and most games in the last 10 years
seem to eventually slide into performance issues they can't or wont fix or egregious p2w. I leave when it's clear they don't care anymore.

    Oh, and in before close.

I take really long breaks from the game because it is literally, in all honesty, swear to god, the only game in existence that has made me fall asleep without me needing to be tired.

No game is perfect but for the last few years ESO has been the best fit for what I'm looking for:

A massive scale, open medieval fantasy world, single player, rpg that allows full character customization and does not require empire building, conquering civilizations, gathering armies or even traveling companions.

In ESO's case, the shortcoming is that it is not single player. It is ESO's massive scale (it literally dwarfs Skyrim and Oblivion combined) and the fact that it is pretty solo friendly that carries it for me.

That all said, I do constantly keep my eyes open for a better 'home' for my elf.
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

I have not quit, but now insert days where I don't play at all.

    reasons:
    1. personal
    2. disappointment (nerfs)
    3. disappointment (burn out/grind)

    1. I used ESO to deal with a 3 year phase of mourning. This "alternate reality" can help to deal with the pain you experience losing a beloved person. After now 4 years, I can spend time "doing nothing" (relaxing) again without distraction of a game.

2 Not much to say: cumulation of nerfs, like slimecraw, crit chance, crystal blast before, and now reduction of CP damage and nerf of proc sets.

    3. because of the inventory bug on console for 2 months, I currently sell just 10-30% of what I sold before.
But items get more expensive. We have lots of new houses above 13k crowns, mounts for thousands of crown gems, luxury furnisher items for several dozend k gold. It is frustrating if you see these nice shining things, but are cut off from buying them because of bugs.

So now I insert many days where I don't play at all, and on those days where I play, I no longer grind. It has become useless. I do some zonequests, hunt some skyshards. Occasional distraction, no longer passion.

I plan to extend the ESO breaks, e.g. to play Horizon forbidden west, once it is available.

    IMHO
ESO is easy to stop but difficult to leave. I often will stop playing regularly in favor of playing a different game, depending on what other games I participate in are promoting. During those times I still log in everyday. However, ESO is now So large, and has So many options to choose from, it does not have a singular driving focus anymore. Time was, you really Needed to complete the entirety of the main quest with Fighter, Mage and Alliance in order to comprehend the whole of the story.

Now, these are just an afterthought. Something to pursue when you feel like it. They will be there whenever you get around to them. I recently leveled up a toon to 50 without even starting the main quest. So, there is so much to do, and so many options, its easy to just do the stuff that appeals to you and take a break when you get tired.

If I would change one thing it would be the gear. I think it is silly to have gear for PvE and completely different gear for PvP. If the gear applies equally well, be it PvE or PvP, then more players would go ahead and jump into PvP when they got tired of questing.

    IMHO

I haven't nor do I plan on quitting ESO any time soon, it's a fantastic game. I do take extended breaks every once in a while and come back when a few big chunks of content have been released. I rotate through a few games to avoid burnout. I check the forums fairly regularly just to see what's going on so I'm not completely lost when I come back from breaks.
