What sets for a "tanky" damage dealer for random normals?

I really enjoy doing randoms (usually normal) and I have a setup exclusively for it - 5 piece Necropotence (it's a sorc with pets active) and 5 piece Plague Doctor. It's VERY fun (38k health, 34k magic) and i'm able to taunt and usually come in first for damage whilst being an 'actual' tank (whatever that means). However, I would like to be able to do this on some of my other dps characters, and since they don't have pets, it make me wonder what an optimal setup would be. I feel like I should have 1 damage set and 1 health set, but I am willing to take any suggestions. Thanks.

    For up to vDLC.

    Sets are not so important.

You need good defs (about 20+-k)
    Good healing ability.
    Good sustain.
HP near 25 hp+- is comfortable.
Stamina pool for 3 role dodges+-

And some ability to negate a one big hit or good block.

The same like for vArenas i think.

And may be ult from Psidgicks to forwardtime while in stun :)

Good AOE ability and good solo DPS 30+k is enough.

I'm having fun with Bahara's Curse, Leeching Plate and Grothdar

I checked the wording on Leeching - Does the cloud do damage to JUST the enemy afflicted or enemies within the cloud?

In the past, I've used Fury/Warrior-poet with Grothdar. This is on a Dunmer dk. It's great for dps/tanking in non-dlc dungeons.

You can run almost any non-DLC normal without a tank or tank sets as a straight up DPS with a taunt and self heal. But if you are queueing as a tank and fear getting caught in a DLC normal where a real-ish tank is needed/preferred, heavy sets that cause damage like Crimson and Leeching Plate are solid. Selfish sets like Plague Doctor, Beekeeper, or Alessian Order are good for a place like Depths of Malatar, too. Then just run with your normal damage set.

For mag you can just swap the necropotence for mother's sorrow and depending on the health you want something like medusa is also an option. Mix and match according to how you want to trade armour v damage. If you've got decent shield options then in PvE you can run full light armour gear providing you have a fair bit of magicka regen.

It's a juggling match between selfish sets and using abilities (eg a templar in plague doctor using the extra magicka from their stats to heal) and supporting sets like battalion defender that might need you to have more points in health or the right CP stars but helps the group that way.
Too many toons not enough time

Your post reminded me that Medusa is a heavy set. OP could wear that with Mother's Sorrow or Necropotence and get the tankiness of heavy armor with all of the magicka buffs

I run crimson and winters respite with zaan or val for my dk and Templar. It's a really smooth Set up that makes the hardest content relatively easy. It'll be interesting to see how this scales next update.

    I love Winters Respite too.

Without bothering to check I'd assume it will scale of max magic. Could pair well with Crafty Afiq.
