Champion Points 2.0 Helped me get rich(er).....ish

Out of all the topics and scandals and disappointments about the Champion System revamp, there's at least one thing I'm quite happy about from it. The Passive that increases the quality of items pickpocketed from NPCs. Shortly after CP2.0 went Live I slot that Passive and took my Nightblade into an almost nightly routine through Anvil Castle. When I started I was still reeling from a massive shopping spree I had done which dropped me down 700,000g, and a player like me, who doesn't farm, doesn't play the market, and isn't in a Trade Guild. It's pretty hard for me to gain decent amounts of gold, so that spree hit me pretty hard, especially since before it I was sitting pretty at just over 2 million banked for the first time.

As often as I could, even on work nights, I'd log in and do my Anvil run, Fence, and log off to let my bounty dry out for the following night, and finally a couple days ago I realized. I bled those Pirates dry of 900,000g worth of stuff, getting my bank back over 2 million. Each pickpocket run would average me about 25,000g a night, depending on how many blues RNG gave me. I've been very happy with this new passive as this is really the only simple way available to me to make money in-game. (the irony of me playing a Khajiit making gold off stealing is not lost...)

At least with this, I'm thankful for the new Champion system. It's helped me get just a little bit more wealthy, and I'm very happy to be back over 2 million gold again.

If anyone is always having trouble getting enough gold to buy things, I highly recommend you invest in that passive and just start pickpocketing. It's VERY lucrative. Don't forget to start the Dark Brotherhood questline to get the Blade of Woe and remember the routine. Pick, Pick, Stab. Also if you feel bad for earning gold this way, do it to NPCs who are baddies. This is why I always run through Anvil Castle. Nothing but Pirates. They deserve what they get.

Your better off pick pocketing a third time rather than stabbing provided you still have a high enough chance at succeeding, the passive does not apply to the third item if you kill them.

I have nearly got my black market mogul achievement largely thanks to this CP passive along with the extra 25% fence value one and 10% from thieves guild.

Just 70K to go, averaging 20 - 30K before I reach the daily fence cap selling a mix of greens/blues and even the occasional purple treasure.

Yes, they do, but I meant the CP perk that gives you an even higher price at the fences. :)

As for the regular Skill perk that lets you fence more items per day, I find that only the first increase is significant; the amount of increase you get from spending even more SPs on that perk are rather disappointing. It's still good to get them, but I find it better to get just the first one while a character is leveling up, and wait until the character has plenty of SPs to spare before getting the rest of the increases.

Glad to hear that you've been able to make some gold this way. Unfortunately, ZOS will have seen this thread by now and is probably working on some hefty nerfs. That's their style. They find out we like something or can profit from it, they nerf it.

I wouldn't worry about that in this case. It isn't doing anything that could be called an exploit, just being smart about using the Skill perks and CP perks that the devs put in the game.

Hopefully not, especially since there's MUCH more lucrative ways people have been doing forever. 900k over the course of a couple weeks is piddly compared to the people making millions from trading or farming mats. And ZOS actually made CP buffs for mat harvesting.

Believe me, 25k a night is not something that will concern them in the slightest, it is basically chump change. Many folks make 60k+ gold in 30 min just doing daily craft writs, never mind the other 200k+ worth of rewards you can milk from them as well if you sell them. During the Explorers event last week, I was getting 120K every morning while on my first cup of coffee.

If anything, it sounds like this pickpocket slottable needs a major buff to bring it in line with other activities. Does it increase (like quadruple at least) the chances of pickpocketing motifs/rare recipes? If not that would be a great place to start.

They won't nerf it because it's doing it's job to give players one more reason to log in and spend time in game.

I am just doing it for the achievement/furniture, 20 - 30K a day is chump change but good gold when starting out.

Daily thieving originally paid for my guild trader dues when I started out, it paid for all the intricate's I used to level crafting on many of my first characters, it helped me stockpile the mats I needed for daily writs, I only stopped when my other ways of making gold made it irrelevant but without that thieving it would have taken a hell of a lot longer to get myself established to make the decent gold I make now.

And that was all before the new CP perks when I was a much worse thief and was lucky if I would make 15K a night, it was a lot at the time now its loose change for me.

At the moment If I did just two of my jewelry surveys I could make more on the stack and a bit of dust in a couple minutes than I would on the half an hour it takes to do my thieving, if I spent the full half an hour doing my surveys I could make hundreds of thousands instead.

That and it takes about an hour to do writs on 18 characters with the 10% more gold from ESO+ and the 10% more gold from the green CP tree, that works out to a little over 5K per character after turning in all 7 crafts or a little over 90K a day before sales which are up a lot more than in the past due to high mat prices.

Sadly, this is what I was thinking while reading this thread. It just goes to show how much for granted people take belonging to a trading guild when other people believe they are swimming in gold when they pull in 25k a night.

This game's economy is definitely a tale of two cities.

Dont let it feel meaningless. Personally I began making gold, good amounts for me at the time through similar means. Doing daily runs, fencing tons of items each day. I had characters who's only existence was to fence items like the people who do writs on multiple toons I would make multiple runs a day across these characters.

That gold allowed me to start playing the market and start taking trading more seriously. Those characters eventually became crafters and other things. I eventually stopped fencing for gold all together, but it still was a meaningful experience as it provided me the ability to make the millions of gold I have now.

Wouldnt be where i am w.o those more humble nights pickpocketing and stabbing folks.

    Don't feel like that.

Are you enjoying what you do while doing it?

Because I make a lot of gold by farming certain items, but I wouldn't say I enjoy most of that time.

And if you at 2 million, you're probably in the upper percent of wealth.

I bet most people kick around with less than 500k.

The disparity from richest to poorest is wildly massive. Those focused on making gold and have for a long time easily have broken into hundreds of millions, though I would also guess the average person is as you said less than 500k.

2 million, 10 million, 100 million...at a certain point it becomes meaningless how much you have. I'm happy where I'm at and the effort it took to reach was atleast for me enjoyable, idk about others though lol...I'd go insane trying to make as much gold as some folks have.

It depends on what you want to use it for, I think. I've recently broken 7 million for the second time on PC NA. The first time was a few months ago, and I bought a couple of houses that dropped me back down below 6 million. I've still got several houses I haven't bought yet, and they're all so expensive that 7 million would purchase only a few of them. And that doesn't even include the cost of trying to furnish them, which is something I haven't gotten into yet.

Based of personal experience I'd say the point would start around the 10 or 20 million mark. Certain things in-game these days, especially when they come with content that just or fairly recently released is pricey to people who can't stand the idea of farming it themselves. The Chests style page of a new Motif could set you back upwards of 800,000 potentially. Sure if that's just too high for you, just farm it yourself, either it'll take you a single day and get lucky, or the next month until it drops, but there are people who would bite the bullet cause they just can't wait. (That's been me a few times...)

I've managed to experience the wonders of a Trade Guild with a spot in Mournhold once. After asking the Guild what usually sells easy (Mats and other things) I listed some stacks of Potion ingredients I never use myself as well as loose style pages and maybe some other things, and after like, three days I made several hundred thousand. My problem though is I ran out of things to sell and I wasn't doing the farming to restock quickly.

And that's the point, exactly. Sure, there are people who make millions of gold in the shortest of time, but those are people that farm hard, trade hard, play hard. If you are more casual in your activities that's not a very viable option. (At least that's my impression.)
Top guilds require either a selling sum or fees that are far too high for someone who isn't constantly doing the "right stuff" to be able to re-stock the shop.
So your happy, lucrative thievery is a great thing to earn money - it'll get you a comfortable little fortune, and you can do it - or not do it - whenever you like. No pressure to achieve some weekly quota. B)

I wish this passive was actually as good as OP describes, but from my little testing it isn’t. I wanted to level legerdemain on one of my alts and spend about 3 hours pickpocketing and killing dominion soldiers at north beacon in Auridon (because this location has no guards or competitors and you can conveniently do full circle before they respawn). All of them was intermediate level targets. Before CP revamp my loot from them was something like 10% blue, 40% green, 50% white with very few rare drops of purple. Now it was something like 15% blue, 75% green, 10% white and I didn’t get any purples so they still way too rare, and ofc I was getting occasional junk as well like lockpicks or common recipes/plans. This CP however definitely affect loot from corpses as well since I was getting white quality items as rarely as from pickpocket. And while results might be better with nobles (advanced level npcs) and I would be curious to see what others get from this CP, it’s still not even that good compare to safeboxes stealing in places like Bal Foyen where I would get twice as much gold just because safeboxes always drop gold on to of guaranteed green or blue treasures.
