ESO Launcher amazingly slow

Just wondering if I'm the only one who has to wait like 5 minutes for the play button to finally arrive on the launcher or if this is the same for everyone and the Devs should get some sort of Guinness record for the slowest game launcher ever?

The launcher is fine for me, it's usually ready the moment the main screen pops up. Are you saying your launcher window pops up and you can see everything BUT the play button?? Is it just missing, or what?? Can you provide more details.

Fine for me too, try repairing your install... other than that I don't know, might be your hard drive that's slow.

Launcher will not get past Loading, their is nothing on the screen besides the background image of the Launcher and the word "Loading" After 10 computer restarts 30 launcher restarts, WITH AND WTHOUT firewall/anti virus. I am lucky to every see the actual Lanucher screen. When it actualy does happen. it's stuck at 0.0Kbs/s and will NOT move.

Hmm maybe it is just me...I click to start the launcher then the window comes up and it says "Loading..." or "Loading News..." and the; lets call it patch progress bar, appears but no "Play" button at the end.

After 3 minutes or so it will change to "Could not load news" and the play button will appear.

Doesn't feel like the HD being slow as the launcher opens straight away, it seems to revolve around the launcher trying to fetch the news and not showing the play button until it has tried for a while. The news has never ever loaded.

I've tried repairs to no avail, maybe worth me downloading the client again or something...

Thanks for the replies, I had assumed this was the same for everyone. Now I know it's not I can try to fix it.

So I re-downloaded the client and this time installed it to my SSD rather than my HD. No noticable change apart from the launcher window came up faster but then it still hung trying to fetch the news.

I'm wondering if I need to open some ports on my router to speed up the news being fetched? I'm not getting any pop up windows for allowing a process to run but that doesn't mean that ESO specific ports are not open...

If I find out anything I'll report back :)

I had the same problem, and after a few days of stubbornly ignoring it, I put on my tech hat:

    Edit:

TL:DR - Disable any unused network cards in your control panel, including the Virtualbox Host network, as the launcher seems to have issues dealing with multiple network cards.

Well I tried the fix where you untick the proxy box in internet explorer and all of a sudden the launcher starts instantly. Not sure if it was due to this fix or if there was a minor fix at the sever end but anyhow it's sorted.

Slight downside...level loading seems to hang the game 50% of the time. :(

I use VMWare and it does install virtual network adapters. I can confirm that ESO Launcher has trouble dealing with multiple network adapters or at least virtual network adapters.

EDIT: Thanks @ludicrous_speed for putting your tech hat on as I feel the same way about disconnecting.

Glad to hear it's better! You should edit the title with resolved so others can find the fix easier when they search for the same issue

Same problem here. It needs about 25 seconds to show me the Play Button.

Some days before it took only 3 seconds. What is this? Does somebody have a solution? Deactivating the VMware network adapters does not help for me. Very annoying. :(

Ran into this issue recently. I had to uncheck the automatically detect settings in the LAN settings in IE.

    Hey all!

Just filling in what helped me with this.

    1. Everything was fine when I installed the launcher and game.
    2. Post-install, I somehow couldn't find an Elder Scrolls Online icon on my desktop. Weird.
    3. I figured out the default install folder root, which was "C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online".
    4. Within this folder, I had the "Launcher" folder, but the launcher was excruciatingly slow from day 1 here.
    5. I figured out that the "The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client" folder had a fast "eso.exe". Everything's fine, but awkward.

    Next up, game update time.

    1. I figured out that I needed to run the Launcher here, which was still excruciatingly slow.
    2. Upon waiting a long enough time, I was then presented with PATCHMANIFESTERROR_DOWNLOADFAIL.
    3. Downloading the patch manifest file manually didn't help.
    4. Right-clicking on the launcher "Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe" and ticking Compatibility -> Run as Admnistrator helped.
    5. This option also helped with the slowness I had been struggling with!

Is the main problem here iffy support for C:\Program Files install locations? This location is infamous for requiring admin rights as soon as something is about to write there! Anyway, I guess I'm fine now. Detailed reply because as a software engineer myself, at least I like those.

    See you in Tamriel!
