Toothrow and Treasure Hunter. Worthy DPS options?

Was testing some sets out and these once ignored sets have recently got my attention. Having Major Savagery and Prophecy at all times seems very powerful. Freeing up the need to slot Camo Hunter or Inner Light allows you to throw in another damage DoT instead. Inner Light might be better due to Max Magicka bonuses but I’m not so sure when it comes to Camo Hunter. I think slotting another DoT might be better especially on a Khajiit.

Major Savagery and Prophecy are too easy to get from a single skill or from potions. Having a 5 piece armor set dedicated to such an easily acquired buff is a bad choice when there are many others that can increase damage or do damage or give survivability or sustain.. Not to mention other sets give similar (better) stats and stack with them."Best" healer PC/NA5 -

✭For stamina camouflaged hunter is usually a no-brainer because of the fighters guild passive meaning you get 3% extra damage just for it being on the bar. More useful is dreugh king slayer if you are trying to build one skill setups
circle of protection
camouflaged hunter
barbed trap
silver leash/shards
{spammable}
dawnbreaker
plus maul, all divines armour and lover so you can ignore all the penetration skills.
giving you 15% extra damage from the slayer passive, or 12% if you swap one out for a heal or similar.
Magicka however doesn't work that way so loading up on mages guild skills just gives you a load of extra magicka and regen.
In theory you could run rattlecage/treasure hunter or rattlecage/inner light
Irrespective of how you get it you generally want major prophecy/sorcery or savagery/brutality at all times if dealing damage.

✭✭✭✭✭There are multiple ways of getting Major Savagery/Prophecy that do not involve using a 5-piece bonus. You only get, at most, two 5-piece bonuses. You really want to make the most of those 5-piece bonuses, and use them for something unique that you cannot get otherwise. Potions are best option for Major Savagery/Prophecy, but even if you don't want to spend the gold/time on potions, I would rather give up 1 of my 10 skills than 1 of my 2 5-piece bonuses.1 -

✭Leviathan and Mother's Sorrow are better options for stam or mag specs because they stack with Hunter's Eye or Magelight (both increase critical chance just for being slotted). In order to get your crit chance north of 60, your going to want to use BOTH a set like Leviathan/Mother's Sorrow (for mag, you can also use Medusa) AND either hunter's eye or magelight. A 60% crit chance is pretty critical for maximizing your DPS, as it allows you to also use the Shadow mundus, increasing your critical damage. Unless your over the 60% mark, your going to be better off using the thief mundus, which means you will lose out on having extra critical damage.2 -

✭✭✭Basic rule is that its better to use a 5th piece from an armor set for a buff like a boost in crit (like Mother's Sorrow) or damage (like Crimson) than something you can get from a potion or skill, especially if you can not get that 5th piece buff from another source.
The best way to look at it is with a skill like Inner Light. It gives Major Prophecy and increases your max magicka. Treasure Hunter adds spell damage and Major Prophecy. There would be no point to use Inner Light with Treasure Hunter. Treasure Hunter and Mother's Sorrow have the same buffs through 2, 3, and 4 pieces However, if you drop Treasure Hunter for Mother's Sorrow, and slot Inner Light, you get Major Prophecy, the increase in max mag, AND another 1528 in Spell Crti from MS.
So why would you run Treasure Hunter when you can get better damage potential and resources with Mother's Sorrow plus Inner Light?
As for potions instead of Inner Light, yes they can be expensive. But you can look at it as paying for an extra slot on your bar where you could put Inner Light, as you are getting the same buffs Inner Light would give you from a potion.0 -

They are both awful sets, because the effects themselves are readily accessible by other means and have much less cost of opportunity that way.
No matter what circumstances. For being Dungeon sets, the five piece bonus are easily some of the worst.No Effort, No Reward?

Firstly, you can get those buffs from potions.
Also, you can get those buffs from slotting one skill, which also add something else.
Expert hunter adds weapon damage plus minor beserk when hitting from behind. Inner light increases your max mag.1 -

It always depends what you are trying to achieve. If you want best performance then without a doubt you are correct. But if you are trying to build a usable dps two button toon to play when you don't feel like thinking or for someone with more limited keyboard skills they can be very useful indeed.
