Vvardenfell World Map Lakes

On the world map you can see lakes and lava flows in Vvardenfell. No lakes or lava are visible in any other zones on the world map. It's a bit odd and inconsistent.

Lots of lava in Stonefalls map.

That's the zone map. I'm talking about the world map.

For some reason Vvardenfell on the world map is way more detailed and intricate than any other zone. It's always looked odd and out of place to me. There are plenty of zones that contain larger lakes than the ones in Vvardenfell yet on the world map, the lakes in Vvarndefell are visible but no other lakes are visible on the world map.

Also Vvardenfell has obvious lava areas on the world map which are not seen in Stonefalls on the world map.

I think the map is generated with the help of the game engine. And the script that does that reacts to depth and/or connection to the ocean. Lakes in Vvardenfell are not landlocked, they're connected to the coastline via rivers, which are visible but not deep enough to be outlined.

Take a look at these lakes to see what I mean.

And the Niben River is missing from Cyrodiil, which I've always thought is even more jarring.

It was made at a different time from the rest of the map wasn't it? Without the lake and islands it's tough to tell apart from the island to its northwest by outline.

But once you allow wayshrines and stuff to appear on the Tamriel map it's suddenly no longer at any risk of appearing boring. Additional water features would clutter it up more for most players.

100% this, Niben is probably THE river on Tamriel, it deserves to be fully marked, especially since Bjoulsae river is fully drawn.

Imo they are handdrawn and then the region map is projected onto the map piece to give it a bit of definition.

There are many rough borders, inconsistencies and silly mistakes that I don't think would happen if they were done by an automated script.
Like look at Craglorn, the bottom half of its world map representation is completely empty. There's that silly red line southern-west Deshaan. But even newer ones, like Southern Elsweyr, don't fully match up with the zone map.
The upcoming Blackwood map piece is also very clearly have been at least manually adjusted at certain points to better connect it with certain zones (PTS stuff).
