Player Created Writs

Well, I'm now counting down the last 26 days of research to be a full 9 trait crafter (blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking) as well as level 50 alchemist and provisioner, I wish players could create writs that I could take and fill because I'm certainly not going to have the time to sit in a zone spamming zone chat. I've got a real life.

I think a player create writ system would have to provide the following:
  • Specify the level and style.
  • Specify a crafting set such as Twice-Born Star.
  • Specify one or more items up to a full set.
  • Escrow materials, style items, and gold.
  • Set a time limit for completing the writ. If it expires, the writ queues back up for other crafters to take.
  • Only show writs to players who have sufficient qualifications and materials to complete it. The player doesn't get any escrowed materials or style items until the writ is completed.

And no, the email COD doesn't fly. I'm not a physic who knows who out there needs something crafted if they are not on my friends list or in one of my guilds. Finding them by posting on various formus hasn't flown either.

Interesting idea. In the meantime, I have found that creating lvl 1-50 traited items have value when posted in guild stores but the margins are a little thin to devote a lot of time. I use the worthless "shipment of _______" writ rewards for these.

    Rule #1: RL trumps gaming.
Rule #2: True immersion is RL.
Rule #3: RL lag is wonderful.
Rule #4: People matter. Pixels do not.

I've already suggested something like that.

It would definitely make crafting worthwhile, plus... it would be a great way to obtain gear for all those solo players out there without a guild.

There needs to be some sort of fail safe if they ever implement this...

I can only imagine just finishing crafting, getting everything upgraded to where the buyer wants it... upgrading the last piece to legendary... and then either the server has issues or my internet does. Finally come back online and find out I lost the writ due to time. All those mats wasted, and now will have to be sold undervalue, will have to eat up valuable trader space till the right person wants it, or will eat up my time trying to sell in zone.

Some kind of safeguard against that and I'm all in.

This is a GREAT idea. I started a guild (Mundane Magic) providing every ESO crafting table and Mundus stone. I even have a refreshment stand for vampires. I've researched everything possible in wood, metal and clothing, jewelry. What's my reward? More than a few people have asked me to craft stuff because they don't want to use time and skill points on research. How many have even offered to compensate me? Only one. I flat out refuse work except for this one member who's recruited nearly 100 other members and appreciates the vast amount of effort to create a "one-stop" crafting facility. A bidding system for work order writs would be an excellent idea. The crafter would have to put up gold to insure they crafted an object within a given time limit (or forfeit the gold). Anyway, I would like to direct members to a player driven writ system to keep things impersonal. They would soon see the going rate of many writs and might be more considerate before asking me for "favors".
Finally I've retired as a programmer and would think the idea of player created writs would not be difficult by leveraging existing code for crafting. But until ESO implements such a system I'll just have to say NO to new guild members who think free lunch is included.

Here's a suggested simple way to keep player driven writs fair and timely.

    1) A work order is submitted by a requester.
The work order includes gold for work, completion date and forfeit amount for not completing work on time.
    2) A crafter picks up the work order and accepts it along with the a "forfeit" amount for not completing work on time.
    3) The requester provides the gold for the work order and a contract becomes binding.
    4) If the crafter completes the work as ordered they receive all gold including a refund of the forfeit amount.
    5) If the crafter does NOT complete the work as order then the requester is refunded all gold including the forfeit amount.

    Just an idea....

I prefer the existing writ system since the main reason I do them is for writ vouchers and building up mats. And a bit of gold.

That said, the proposed writ system would be fine as long as it is in addition to the existing one. Especially since the idea sounds rather popular. :)

Word of advice for Master Crafters with all crafting stations: don't let anyone know. I founded a guild with all crafting stations and as they say "No good deed goes unpunished". Other than one guild member who's recruited over 100 people I've never been compensated for crafting anything. My intention of founding the guild was to provide a one stop location for crafters. More often than not guild members are not interested in spending skill points on crafting. Why should they when they can ask me and I'm a "nice guy"? Yet only one has ever offered any compensation of any kind. I've learned to say NO.
If ESO has USER created Master Writs then it would be much more obvious how much it REALLY costs to craft sets. The "free market" would determine prices and prices would be HIGH for anything of quality. But I guess action/adventure is where future ESO development resources will go. As such take a warning from me if you're a master crafter with all crafting stations. QUIET.
