Enemy outlines (not their aoe) are hard to see lately.

Does anyone have issues seeing the red outline on enemies in dungeons lately? (I'm not talking about their abilities, aoe effects, etc. I mean the red outline around their body) Either non-existent, delayed, or aoe abilities covering them (seems to be mostly from my own and other player's sorcs and templars) making them very faint. I don't want to resort to using the nameplates, but this is weirdly making it difficult to fight mobs in dungeons. Is there anything I'm missing as far as adjusting brightness on these aoes?

Check your settings. As I recall, there are settings that control the outline intensity, and thickness. At least, on PC.

The only option I see is gamma, for general brightness, which is already turned down pretty low. Additional ally effects is turned off. I don't see any additional settings like you're talking about except glow intensity around interactable objects, not sure that applies to enemies. But if it does, the options were already on and at max.

I have a "Glow Thickness" setting (0 to 100) and a "Target Glow" (on/off) with Target "Glow Intensity" (0-100). That is all I know about.

Settings -> Nameplates -> Indicators (it's down at the bottom) -> Target glow. Set that to on and glow intensity to 100.

As for AoEs try: Gameplay -> Combat -> Enemy brightness. Then turn that all the way up.

And welcome to ESO where settings will randomly reset themselves for absolutely no good reason.

The combat player and enemy brightness, as far as I can tell, is just for abilities, doesn't affect their outline. I already have maxed out setting under nameplates. I'm just going to use the health bar indicator for now.

That's pretty much been my experience with computers in general. :/ ESO has actually been pretty good about retaining my chosen settings; resets seem to be few and far between for me. I do tend to stick with default settings as much as possible, which might be why I haven't noticed as many resets as you may have; but I definitely change a few settings, and those have only been reset a couple of times that I can recall.

There’s glow intensity and glow thickness, crank them up. And also set the enemy aoe attacks to bright pink and friendly ones to a bright green. That’s what the YouTube pros suggested in their guides for new players 😊😊

I've been doing the green and pink for a couple years now as the color makes it stand out. It is particularly important for the default red, as there are places in the game environment that are red. It can hide incoming attacks.

I'm not able to check myself, but on PC they're called Indicators and the option to enable them is in the Nameplates menu, along with settings for names and health bars which appear over players.

As stated above already, this does not affect what I was having an issue with.

One thing I've noticed that might have some bearing on your original post is that it can sometimes be tricky to target NPCs as well as players. To be clear, this isn't anything "new"; it's been a problem for me for a long time.

For example, if I have a lot of empty soul gems that I'm trying to fill, I might cast Soul Trap on a mudcrab, then try to cast it on other mudcrabs that come running, but it can be very difficult to target the other ones; I often end up casting Soul Trap over and over on the first mudcrab when I'm trying to aim at the others.

Or, if I see another player and am trying to see their name and level, I frequently find it almost impossible to target them, even if they're standing right in front of me.

It seems to be related to a combination of the third-person view, camera orientation, and the direction my character is facing, but it's more complicated than that. For example, when I'm trying to interact with the crates at the crafting turn-in locations, I can often interact with a crate that's behind me and isn't centered in the camera's view. But other times I need to move around or shift the camera around before I can get the interaction prompt to appear for a crate.

Switching to first-person view can help, but that isn't the most popular mode of play as far as dungeons and delves, so I don't think many players would be happy having to do that.

Anyway, I wonder if that might be related to why it can sometimes be very difficult getting the red aura to show up around NPC enemies when you're trying to target them, or why it might show up yet not be highlighted to indicate the enemy is targetted?

I'm having the same issue. I turned of all add-ons and have the settings in Nameplates turned on and all the way up, but I get nothing. I opened a ticket and mentioned that others were having the same problem. Hopefully we can get some results.

    I also have this issue.
On my gaming laptop where my daughter plays - no problem. Settings work fine. I can turn on/off the "glow" around NPCs.
On my gaming PC however - I cannot get the glow at all. I've tried erasing settings file and rebooting. Turning off addons (my gaming laptop has the same addons however and it works fine).

This is so frustrating...I actually want the glow, it helps a lot to see status of NPCs... especially when thieving :)

Have you possibly got a new 4K monitor or TV lately?

The HDR makes the outline thinner and less bright for me versus a regular HD TV.
