Unstable Core

I like the idea of this skill, but it does not work on bosses (ok, I get that) or even minor bosses or large creatures....so you cast it, lose your magicka, and it does nothing....
Could it at least do some damage.

Using it on a single trash mob opponents seems like such a waste.

Or am I using this wrong?

Anyone want to share how to use this effectively?

Tanks!

    Thanks for clearing up.

Even in PvP - why does it suck?

IMHO it is too complicated. And it is assuming you will survive three attacks :p

Most of the effects of unstable core are already in a Templar's toolkit, it's supposed to be a "crowd control ability" even though its limited to one target. For a CC it's pretty bad since it targets one person and all the debuffs it gives are not unique at all.
    Skill description
Envelop an enemy in a lightless sphere for 4 seconds, that harms them with growing intensity anytime they use a Direct Damage attack. Limited to one. Their first attack reduces their movement speed by 30% for 4 seconds and deals 449 Magic Damage, their second attack immobilizes them for 3 seconds and deals 898 Magic Damage, and their third attack stuns them for 3 seconds and deals 1799 Magic Damage. The effects can activate once every 1 second.

The movement speed snare is pretty useless because Templars main spammable ALREADY applies a movement speed snare (biting jabs/puncturing sweeps) and the snares from their spammable is more effective as it's a 40% snare not 30%. An immobilize is nice, however in every templars rotation they're either using javelins or toppling charge to stun people anyways so the usefulness of an immobilize is very situational, only good if you're getting focused by multiple people. But again the effects are limited to 1 person.
And the third attack being a stun is again kind of useless as every templar is running toppling charge or javelin anyways to get a guaranteed stun on their rotation, the stun off the unstable core isn't guaranteed because lots of people will back off as soon as it debuffs them so they'll almost never get to the 3rd debuff anyway.

Its sister skill used to be super good and trolly. It was called total dark.

You would cast it on an enemy and it would deal huge damage and heal you for roughly the same amount for six seconds I believe. You had to CC break to get rid of it, and after the effect ended you would get CC immunity. You sacrificed a gap closer and stun using it but it was worth it for most magplar. Living dark is garbage in comparison, heals for less than half what it used to.

Unstable core did the same thing but had a huge delayed burst AIE at the end of it.

    Both are useless now.

Mostly because of its interaction with the enemy's CC state. Good opponents can and will negate the first two functions with free movement options like Shuffle. The big payoff is that this is supposed to stun an enemy who manages to get off 3 direct attacks in 4 seconds (something that's not likely to happen if you are playing well), but if you used Javelin or toppling charge in the past 7 seconds (which you should), then they won't be stunned by this spell because they will have CC immunity..

It might inconvenience an inexperience player, but it's not going to deter an good player who is determined to attack a templar, which is when defensive skills need to shine.
