Magcro main bar: lightning or inferno staff?

Guys, help me to decide. Everybody's suggesting to use inferno in pve, but I do not get it: is it really better than lightning specifically on magcro? The only single-target ability I use is Ricochet Skull. So why should I use Inferno? What's the catch?

Watching with interest to see what everyone else's thoughts are, but I use lightning on my magcro as it appears to increase the aoe damage which is a large part of the class.

I would say, it largely depends on your build - you know the best what is an input of ST skills & AOE skills into your DPS.

    Your spammable is single-target.
Your light attacks are single target.
    Your mage pet is single-target.
    Your damaging enhancements are single-target.
Damage you cause via status effects (Burning, et al.) is single-target.
If you happen to use Degeneration, that's single-target.
Your monster set may or may not be single target.

That's probably all the single-target damage you do.

Mage isn't single target, it affects "all other enemies nearby". But the skull spammable and light attacks are. It's a shame lightning staff light attacks aren't aoe, even if it was a really small radius if lightning staff light attacks benefited from their staff type passive in the same way that inferno staff light attacks do it would really help make them more viable.

Had a quick look through my most recent combat logs on my magcro, at best 30% of my attacks are single target, the rest is aoe. Though depends on the situation.... And how you actually fight I guess.

Been in BRP a bit this last week with an almost idemtical specced magcro apart from I have a lighning staff and my buddy has a fire staff and you can see the extra damage from my lightning staff on the logs quiet nicely

Thing is, fire staff also is... A fire staff. In Dungeons and solo you are probably correct. But don't forget that in trial you have engulfing and the new set, which will add 15% dmg to your light attacks if they are from a fire staff.

I use lightning staff in trash and inferno against bosses.

I use lightning staff front bar, inferno backbar, and garner 81k with a very lazy rotation, and it's done me better than an inferno for my own particular tests. I'd say try both and see which you like better.
