Mother Sorrow versus Treasure Hunter

Is there a reason why Mother sorrow has always been best in slot when Treasure hunter appears to have better stats ?

Treasure hunter does 171 more spell damage and has the major prophecy which gives 2629 spell crit .....
Whereas mother sorrow only gives rhe additinal 1528 spell crit

I know you can still get the prophecy buff additional when wearing mother sorrow ... but still ...

Doesnt the treasure hunter set seem much better ?

You can get major prophecy easily from spell power potions or just slotting mage light so the flat stats of mother sorrow can stack with prophecy.

Major prophecy is just too easy to get, most pvers use spell power pots or alliance war magicka pots, which are pretty easy to get and they both give major prophecy, so major prophecy isn’t that hard of a buff to come by.

Mother sorrow is better without question. Wear MS, use potion or skill to get same buff as treasure hunter. Can you wear treasure hunter and use potion or skill to get same Crit as MS? As far as casual play treasure hunter is fine and can do any content wearing it but it’s not better.

If you are in training gear and using trash pots, treasure hunter seems the clear winner. I've been using it since CP2. MagDK is the only? class that doesn't benefit.

Actually, Wardens have Lotus and Magplars have Reflective Light. I use those skills a lot (I'm a pretty casual player).

As mentioned above, Major Prophecy being active at all times sounds good, but the truth is that you can get that buff through alternative means, be it through Mage Light (Which arguably could be a good ability with the 5% Magicka buff morph), Class abilities that give you Major Prophecy or potions via Alchemy.

I am curious however, is there any Light Armor set that could be worn in replacing Mother's Sorrow, or at least not give it priority? Say for a... Magicka Warden who'll be wearing Winterborn gear just to get a starting foot once he gets to level 50?

Medusa is a heavy armor set though, so you are going to want pair it with two light monster set pieces and wear it on jewelry and weapons or two body pieces and jewelry.
