I'm imagining around 10k and maybe you can ask you to heal you instead and get like a 2k/second heal.

Well they have both cast times and cooldowns on their skills, they will be auto attacking most of the time not weaving like a player either. On the bright side, it doesn't look like their skills take any resources; however, that may also mean pumping up their magicka and stamina may have no effect on their damage output.

Anything more than 5k will cause problems in overland questing and for players with poor DPS. I can't really see ZOS making companions preferable to random human teammates.

My actual prediction is around 2k.

Why would they be so low? They could do 50k and still be half of a good player. If they’re intended to make soloing as a tank or healer less painful then they’d have to be at least equal to a mediocre DPS.

I'm hoping for 10k+. but expecting about 4kish maybe 5 at the most? would be extremely disappointed if its anything less then that.

hopefully more than some of the dps I have run into in pugs...
ShutYerTrap (selectively mute NPC dialogues (stuga, companions); displayleads (antiquity leads location); UndauntedPledgeQueuer (small daily undaunted dungeon queuer window)

50k is more than a lot of pug dps. Probably more than I do (all my chars are tanks or healers)

everybody would just duo 4man as tank and heal with 2 dps companions....

nothing against that per se. seeing I only tank or heal. but seems unlikely zos would make quite a sizeable part of playerbase superfluous. Imagine the dps queue times..

50k is well above a mediocre dps.

Prior to this last patch most of the playerbase was running like 20-30k dps. They'll probably put it at like 25 and call it a day imo

I would be shocked if companions did anything above 20K. I'm betting ~10K is about where we'll land. They want these to supplement the player experience, not steamroll it... right?

Can you imagine a bot following you around that blasts out 50K DPS on a Delve boss? :D

I'd be happy to be wrong (for the sake of my pseudo-solo vet DLC dungeon runs in the future), but I seriously think some of y'all are super optimistic to be hoping for anything in the 30-50K range. Even if we're talking about Iron Atro numbers (side note: I hate that that's how everyone measures base DPS now, it's totally unrealistic 95+% of the time!), 20K DPS from what is essentially an autonomous pet would unbalance a lot of the game to a laughable degree.

I'd love to have a companion who could pump out 50K DPS... but I don't think ZOS would love for me to have it.

They have cooldowns on abilities, most likely can't weave, and use their skills in the order you put them with some sort of priority. Better to call them tank/heal bots.

Ah, sorry I should be more clear. I think it would be fine for a companion to deal 50k DPS in an ideal situation with external buffs (where a player could do 100k+), such as in a coordinated group or against an Iron Atronach. This translates to around 25k on a delve boss, which seems reasonable.

I’m also not saying this would be the starting point for a companion, they would need full optimization in gear, level, skills, just like any player that was working toward 50k.

I think people are in for a disappointment if they expect to rely on a companion for dps. If a player fires skills off in a priority order with cooldowns without weaving they wont pull decent dps, 50k is more than most would pull on the Iron Atro so thats a lot more than I am expecting. The damage component in the equation can be high but the time component will most likely prevent companions from dealing decent dps. I guess a lot depends on the ability cooldowns but I would be happy with 20k dps from a companion.

I see companions mainly as support, my first companion build will probably be a tank with support sets because all the companion has to do it taunt and debuff the target. It sounds pretty good to be able to apply more buffs and debuffs while playing solo. As solo DD your companion could apply Elemental Drain/Caltrops, maybe even buff you with sets like Olorime or debuff the target with the Vateshran Ice staff and Elemental Catalyst.

    Edit: typo

They're default combat dialogue is going to be "I need healing." So I predict around half of what an average tank can do.

Y’all are in for a surprise if you think you’re companion will deal 10k DPS or more. I even doubt they’re doing 5k DPS overall.

    1. Their skills are on CD and can’t be spammed
    2. Their auto attacks won’t deal 5-10k damage per hit (that would be more damage than the player deals with LA/MA/HA)
    3. They won’t outdps bad players

    lol, if that.

I do hope these "companions" will be significantly more effective than the ones that typically aid you during quests. Because the only thing those are good for is annoying you by blocking your targeting.

I'd guess 15-20k dps single target. Better than your average pugger, not good enough to do trifectas in DLCs.
  • teh_squirrel
I think 7k to 9k is about where it will sit. I think to have the companion do more dps they will have to include protections against using them for botting or afk farming, so that if you stop fighting they stop fighting or something of that sort.
  • teh_squirrel
It seems more the case they will have abilities that help "turn the tides of battle." By CCing, healing, creating areas of denial for the npcs, etc... Maybe they will buff you or debuff the enemy. These are ways to keep combat interactive for the player, have the companion contribute, but prevent you from just going afk.

be fair - not all pug groups are that bad ;)

The dps is likely to be irrelevant if they can either end up taking some of the hits or can be loaded with group buff gear. The warden bear for example isn't astoundingly vicious but it's certainly useful in solo play. I don't think I'm expecting anything more than a sorc flappy pet but in trousers.

My guess is 10k max but their healing done might actually be pretty good.
