What tank spec is most wanted to be seen leading your dungeon group?

Darkspecialist
I’d like to make a new tank toon so I’d like to know.

Thanks

    Welp my dream gear set for a tank for dungeons specifically would be drakes rush, yolnakrin, and vateshran shield. This spec would be difficult for a new tank to get tho. For a new tank it’s probably be easier to get something like ebon, brass fortress (kinda flexible on your second set), and lord warden helm. Lord warden might be tough to get for a new tank so maybe bloodspawn helm if that ones too tough.

    Always happy to see a dragonknight, but any class as long as there's a shield in evidence is fine by me.

    If you were asking for build recs, I'll show myself out.

    I'm not sure if it's a good idea to start with a difficult "most wanted" setup when you are new to tanking. Better make sure you stay alive and keep everything well positioned before you start going crazy with setups.

    But to answer your question, for most dungeons it would be a necromancer tank with ice staff wearing olorime, either warmachine or master architect and either encratis (in a magicka group) or tremorsclale (in a stamina group).

    That build sounds not very optimal to me tbh. Can you explain why Olorime, a light armour set for healers and typically every pug either has spc or olorime, would be a good choice for tanks? I get why you chose war machine, because war horn and major slayer would be a nice combo, but aren’t you gimping your defence? Not to mention where are you gonna get your fire to proc encratis on a necro if you’re using ice staff? Is this some ultra leet setup that I’m not high enough level to fully get?

    Edit: I guess you’re running 3dps? No healer means no olorime, so you have the tank fill the gap. Still where are you getting you’re fire for encratis proc?

    Yolna/olo/engine guardian/masters s/b 3 dps
    Yolna/pa/engine guardian/masters s/b 1 tank/2 dps/1 healer.
    Class doesn't really matter much for dungeons.
    I prefer my dk or sorc tanks but this is personal preference.
    Really the tank that is most wanted in dungeons is the one that buffs the group and debuffs the enemies, while stacking up the mobs maintaining agro on all priority targets, preform mechanics and not die.
    Even while learning I wouldn't recommend going selfish with your gear, its really not required nor desired. It would also help you prepare if you desire trials as well basically no one is going to allow you to run selfish in vet trials.

    We use:
    Leeching Plate + Crest of Cyrodiil

    All the tanks in support sets can tank I easely can tank on DD.
    In real hard hitting HMs where I can not tank on DD if tank do not stand by his own group lose 10 times more DPS supporting tank - then they buff.

    Buff of 5 % DPS tank gives by sets is really useless in dunguans.

    Yolna/Olo/Monster set of their choice for 3dd setup,
    Yolna/PA/Monster set of their choice with a healer. I wouldn’t even turn my nose up at Galenwe in some block-intense fights for the empower.

    You cant count on always getting a real healer, and if you do you don't know what they are running. Olo back bar is pretty common for tanks, even at the risk of being redundant. Any tank equipped and knowledgeable enough to be back-barring olo for dungeons likely has a sub set like PA they can throw on instead.

    Simply put, Olorime is the best dps-boosting buff in the game so tanks should have the option to run it whenever possible.

    As far as OP question -

    Yoln Body
    Encratis / Tremorscale head (mag or stam/mixed group)
    Olorime/PA back bar ice staff & jewelry
    Master's front bar

    this is typical "meta" dungeon setup for most tanks. For Trials its going to depend on your group, largely the same but sub Galenwe for Olo double-barred.

    When it comes to class it really doesn't matter unless you are the only representative of that class in your group, then it becomes quite a bit more important:

    Sorc tank = minor spell crit
    Templar tank = minor spell power
    DK = minor weapon power
    NB = minor weapon crit
    Necro = Major Vuln / Rez Ulti / Empower
    Warden = minor toughness
