Healing CP setup

Hello, I'm wondering how much of the healing stuff in the Warfare tree is actually needed to do content? I'd assume for hardmode vet trials that healers have to go all-in, but the sacrifice of DPS-oriented CP for regular 4-man content might not be worth it? I'm not actually sure. I assume that most regular damage-dealers for Random normal and vet dungeons will be going all-in on damage-oriented CP, which means that their defensive CP might be lacking. Does that mean I should spec more into healing as a regular thing? Or should I spec more damage, too, because damage out equals less damage in due to things dying faster?

Basically, I want to have some damage CP so I can solo without changing out my points every time between grouping and soloing. Can I justify it? I have about 1280 CP and I mostly heal normal trials, with an occasional Craglorn vet, as well as random normal and vet dungeons (wherein I usually DPS most of the time and only throw heals when needed or in certain fights).

The reason I enjoy healing is that spell damage boosts both your damage and heals. The new CP system is pushing splitting those up. My healer is taking boosts that simultaneously help boost damage and heals but when a choice is to be made, she chooses damage every time. She feels strongly enough about it that if this trend continues, she'll change her role from healer to dps and quit calling herself a healer.

I have not tested much but yes, aside from (some) HM Vet (eg: Stone Garden), I don't feel like we need much specced into extra healing and would rather use CPs to increase DPS.

I wouldn't mind it but hps stars should be passive and not require a slot for it's worth little.

So, we going all in for damage and just using Resto staff and skills like before? I’m struggling with the low dps of going all in (healing slottables, etc.) and not being able to help out the DD’s when they ain’t so good at dealing damages...

This is a tricky one! But let's look at hard facts:
    • I found, that I do not need any more Healing CP stars than Soothing Tide and Swift Renewal, i.e. for AoE and HoT.
    • That single target heal CP star is only useful for One Target burst heals. So virtually never. Not even Combat Prayer benefits from it!
    • Also the other Options are of minor use. You do not want to wait with cleansing until less than 25% Health and 6 secs sustain Boost is puny when looking at a 45 sec cooldown (from potions).
    • Rejuvenator also pushes your healing power very little. I found at 165 SD for my heals it only heals for about 250 health more on Combat Prayer. That is because I have about 5,3k Spell Damage fully buffed.

So with this in mind I can use Thaumaturge and Biting Aura for that serious damage Boost.
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

I am still incredibly torn on what to do. All healing CP and it literally hurts to try to solo or do randoms with poor damage dealers.

Well, it somewhat depends on how much CP you have to spend in the first place. I wouldn't say the healing-dedicated stars are high enough priority to pick first(or second or third), but they are nice if you don't need the others. I've played around with all/some/none of the healing stars since the update, and overall I'm personally going to be speccing for damage>mitigation>healing (in that order) on my healers going forward.

The dedicated healing stars do make a noticeable difference... but not really a make-or-break difference; more like a "hey, that went pretty smooth! no close calls or anything this time. it did take longer with lower group DPS, though..." type of thing. Basically it amounted to less over-healing, but less margin of error / healer "comfort" with a more damage-heavy CP setup. YMMV.

Here's what I'm doing with CP on my healers now; it works best for me.
    - First pick the passive one that grants Crit Chance (Precision), then Fighting Finesse which boosts Crit Damage & Healing; those two stars are great for all non-tank setups, so it's hard to go wrong.
    - Then the Untamed Aggression is pretty dual-purpose as well; it'll boost both damage and healing skills at the same time.
    - That's only two slottable stars so far. (To max out those three alone, you'd need 420 CP) Good boosts to both damage and healing, but with not points sunk into healing only.
    - Next I have a bunch of points sunk into mitigation passives, but I'm mid-high CP, so I have that luxury. I also like my healers to be nigh-unkillable, but most prefer stronger damage/healing, so... your own judgement call on how much to sink into Mit CP there. Possibly move this step down the list if you need less mitigation in general.
    - Next I have more CP put into more damage stars; penetration, effect chance, Thaumaturge, etc. Doesn't help healing directly, but it does help me need to administer less of it because things are just dying faster. YMMV again.
    - Now I'm out of star slots.
    - Extra CP goes into passive Magicka/Stamina (depending on character; I have stam healers too)
    - Extra extra CP finally goes into healing done (Blessed), just because why not after other stuff is maxed out. It's passive.
    - If/when I can afford them, I'll branch into the dedicated healing stars just so I can slot them if/when they're needed to clear hurdles I'm struggling with on the spot. Super low priority, though, since this almost never happens for me.

I like your ideas and I, too, have been putting points into Precision and Fighting Finesse first and trying to up my crit chance for its usefulness in both healing AND damage-dealing. Then I'm going Blessed for the extra healing, then back over to damage and mitigation. Once I have about 200 more CP I can start speccing into the healing slottables for really hard fights.
