No "solo" players that faction stack everywhere are causing the lag.
Either they can't do anything about them mechanically or they don't want to.
Before the patch (during the tests) the lag was equally bad - maybe worse - even when ballgroups werent playing.
Maybe the real issue is that the server can't handle more than 40 players?

Perhaps there's a cause an effect at play here although I doubt it. In the last few weeks I've fought in many large, medium and small scale fights with little lag, however this week when the ballgroups are back in force the game is running like ***.
This evening my faction appeared to be ignoring the ballgroups invading our keeps and still it was unplayable. Had to stop playing after I couldn't even fight 1vs1. Far way from any ball.

Maybe you only notice how bad the lag is affecting you when you fight a ballgroup, they are much more punishing of any lag induced miss-steps than a pug group of the same size.
