Go offline before you group so you don't get whispered, then ignore group chat.

I have an addon that parses group loot, but I try to be polite when I see loot. I'll either not mention anything (in mixed company), congratulate them for the find (especially if it's a good one), or I'm with people who we're loot grinding together with so the knowledge of what we each have doesn't matter -- and we always respect the "I need what I found" claim, since we're all looking for different things together.

If your group is being rude or demanding or entitled, a simple "Sorry, I need this / need this on another character," should shut them down. If it doesn't, then there's no need around to stick around for that garbage. Find brighter pastures.

The add-on is such a time saver. If I see a piece I really want, I will whisper asking if they need it, regardless of answer, "have a nice day thnx for the run bye bye."
PS: i will never see eye to eye with the people against this add-on, since our beliefs on the matter are different, while I believe the loot is shared loot and sharing it if it is not needed is common courtesy (after all, it has their name on it too) they believe that the loot is exclusively theirs, example:

This type of "What's yours is mine" mentality is all the more reason not to play in a group, AFAIC.

If we rolled for it, then yes. Otherwise, no. Group loot, traditionally, gets rolled on, Need, Greed, Pass usually. That's not what happens here.

I hate that add-on for one reason: it's not optional. It should only work with others in the group who also use it.
If I don't want to message 5 people about a drop in group, then why would I want 5 of them whispering me about a drop in a group?

Sure, I would probably use it when playing with friends, but the amount of annoying messages I get from pugs aren't worth it. Believe it or not they get salty when denied, and that whole interaction didn't have to happen if it was optional.

I am an angry old man who find it very intruding when my random group members ask for stuff i have looted, and not linked in chat. If i dont want to share with them, why should the Add-On do it? Where is my right to keep loot a secret? What settings do i need to adjust to protect my precious loot from prying eyes? If its not something i can adjust in settings, which Add-On is hiding my highly valued loot? If there aint an Add-On yet, can someone please make it so i can have my beloved loot for myself?

They called it group content for a reason, if u dont want to share, just say " i need it for my build or collection ". Trying to find an addon to hide your loot just make u become a selfish player.

Really? Wanting to keep what you get private, as the game intended, since it doesn't announce loot, or make us roll on it, is "selfish". Damn, I was thinking it was playing the game the way it was designed.

Group content doesn't translate to group loot.

We don't need an addon to hide our loot because the game hides it by default. What the OP wants is a way to keep others from peeking into his bag and acting like they have a right to take anything they want.

Those are the players who are being selfish, because they keep their own loot and take yours, too.

    1. I think your definition of “beg” must be different than mine. I seriously doubt many people literally “beg”. Asking a question once, or even twice, isn’t begging.

    2. You’re doing GROUP content where the loot is marked as group loot (tradable among group members) for a period of time. If ZOS didn’t want players to work together and share if they’re willing, the gear would be immediately bound to whoever picked it up. But it’s not. You’re doing group content with other real people, where the loot is made tradable for good reason. [snip]

    3. If you seriously feel “ganged up on”, there are ways to remedy that. You can change your status to offline and/or put the bully on your ignore list.

This is an MMO. You’re playing with other people. [snip]

Whoever received the loot has the option to trade it if they choose. It's their loot so it's their choice. It's up to them to offer if they choose. If ZoS had intended for people to ask for someone else's loot they would show the drops in chat.

Word of advice: you don’t like addons, get a console. API is usually restricted in a way that prevents mods and addons from causing problems like the one your having @AngryOldMan. best part is, no addons, no problem.

    #ConsoleMasterRace
If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

Stop wasting time complaining about an addon and go to the source. Request or make a petition to have ZOS block the API so that addons can’t read or report other players’ loot.

That is exactly what the OP made this thread to do, and I support him.

There is no way to hide your loot drops from the group (unless you leave the group before looting the final boss, but they'd only not see that specific loot).

I personally don't care if someone looks at my loot, but if they assume they should have something just because they want it then I tend to take issue. Like a random in a dungeon the other day said they were looking for hircine and just came up to me at the end and selected trade expecting me to give it to them. That's a bit far IMO. There was no request, no checking to see what I didn't need (esp now with stickerbook).

But if they see and ask and are willing to accept a "sorry, im keeping it" without throwing a fit, then I have no problem. That's what I'd do, in fact, my requests are always "if you don't need it, I'm looking for XX item" and that's if it's a friend. If it's strangers, I just say I'm looking for items of a set and let them volunteer, even if I know they got the drops.)

You could do what I do sometimes if you think someone is being too pushy and just say, sorry, I already bound it for my collections when I picked it up.

Actually, they’re asking for an addon that blocks other’s view of their loot to be made.
Which I doubt is possible because I imagine the addons would have to be able to send information to each other, which would probably mean the addon authors of each addon would have to work together, assuming the API even allows addons to “talk” to each other. Pretty sure any info gathered by ESO addons are getting their info from the server only.

So.... that means the only way to have this remedied is to make requests to ZOS to block the API of loot info being shared. But that would also break so many other addons from working, [snip]

if you don't want to give it, fine. End of story and good luck.
if however you don't need it, thanks to this addon i know you got it and i know that i can ask you for it.
it happened so many times for me that i got items when i whispered someone, even repeated because they didn't see the message, even if posted in group chat, even when they left the group, simply because i knew they got it.

stop assuming that anyone is demanding anything from you. This addon just shows information, doesn't give entitlement. And don't tell me you never needed something from a dungeon, and asked the others to give it to you if they got it.
this addon just shortens the time for everyone, and helps everyone in completing their needed items. Whoever feels invaded by sharing their loot information just doesn't understand its utility.

also, if you say in chat at the start that you need whatever, by the end of the dungeon anyone forgets and nobody bothers to scroll up thinking "what did that guy need?". And even if you ask, how many people will bother searching through their inventories for you?

The point is You do NOT have the right to look in my bag. I do not care how convenient it is for you, I respect your privacy please respect mine.

Just ignore or reply with "no." They're not entitled to your loot any more than they're entitled to a "I want it for an alt/my stickerbook/etc" explanation as a way of saying no.

I think addons like this must be banned. If I didn't link loot in chat myself - it means that I do need it myself, why ppl are so annoying and really think that if they whisper me then I will go "Oh sure I don't need my false god fire staff feel free dude". That's stupid. And I cannot understand people trhat are replying here like "explain to them that you need it". Why should anyone even bother if people with addons basically broke into their pockets

It is an MMO, and I am playing with other people, and isn't it ironic that this wasn't an issue until someone decided that they needed to be able to see what loot their party members were getting. Is it envy? Is it being mad that someone was getting something they weren't? Who knows, but if ZoS had intended the loot to be known by all, it would have been made that way from the start. I played MMOs in 2005 that listed every item that dropped in a party. You could even roll with Master Looter, and get all the loot yourself to distribute how you saw fit. Of course, those groups weren't very popular, and there was the ideal Round Robin setting. But just because the loot is tradeable in the group doesn't mean everyone in the group needs to know someone dropped something they want.

Also, while out in public, I've never had anyone lean in and say "I like your shoes, give them to me". So I'm not sure where you're trying to go with that? Also, more accurately for this conversation, they've never asked me for the contents of my wallet.

This addon is really useful, great time saver. I can instantly see items, that are not collected yet. I never whisper random people for their loot, even if I need it, just message in group chat about needing it. But when I go with my group, this addon is extremely useful, since we do not need to show in trade window every single item we got from all three pledges+rnd to each member of the group.

The same i think such addons is : Cheating !

    First of all:
I DO NOT LOOT bosses ! I have no empty space.
So if you need some thing - ASK before the run. And i will try to loot it and give it, if I do not need it.

Second - it is " harrasment " and somepeople can steal it !

Yes ! Once I help one player to get some stuff but some bad man do trade in right moment so i make mistake and give it to another. IT IS CHEATING.

It is privat information players must not see !

And IF T-Baging is "harrasment", it is even more harrasment and + it is cheating ! So or BAN for it or make it possible to make this privat !!!

[snip] and it's not about entitlement. If you need the drop yourself, you're 100% within your rights to tell the person no and keep the item. No one is arguing to the contrary. I said, and I quote "and you don't need it, why not just give it to them?". I clearly stated the item should be only be shared if it meets those conditions. If not, it's a non-issue. Keep your virtual treasures. I read this entire chain of comments, mostly because I've been frustrated by the rude behavior of players in random dungeon queues who patently ignore me when I give a friendly "Hey all! I'm looking for <item>. If you don't need it yourself, I'd greatly appreciate it", then they get the drop, I private message them, and they leave group and continue to ignore me. No matter how someone feels about the addon, there's no need to treat people like that. Many people in this thread have specifically stated they would keep the item out of spite and even decon it just to avoid sharing it. [snip]
