Elemental Weapon (Psijic) not activating reliably?

Title.

I just wanted to create a build with Elemental Weapon, but it's so inconsistent. Sometimes I just don't get the buff, I activate it, I see the animation, but I don't get the buff. It's very unreliable to use and with it's super short duration it's easy to miss out.

I know this skill is super clunky since it has been introduced, but that it sometimes doesn't activate at all? Is that normal?

Are you using a projectile weapon with it? If so fire the projectile first and then activate the ability, and when the projectile lands it'll be empowered by Elemental Weapon.

Yes, using it on a Fire Staff. Activating after shooting the LA sounds even more unreliable, but I’ll test it.

It's how I've been having to use the ability because if you use it before shooting the fireball it can expire before it lands. It's a very odd ability on destruction staves and bows due to that, but as long as you activate it first before the light attack it should proc every time. If not that's what the refund on the ability is for when you skip a beat.
