✭Well, that theory already circulated around here, and it's a slight possibility, actually.
But I don't think they would do that, in the end. The "P2W" outcry would be of a magnitude never reached yet on the forums .. and this time, for once, it would be deserved.
Never yet did a DLC/chapter add a system that directly increased DPS, only of those who bought it.
The current main theory is that companion will take a character's slot in a team. So, not 12 players, 12 companions per trial, but 6 players, 6 companions. A joker to replace a player, if you will.
But in truth, we cannot be sure yet.1 -

I think its safe to say that their intention was to nerf DPS at the top simply to bring it down. There are mechanics that can be reliably skipped due to high(er) DPS. In other words I dont think there was another motive.
The devs stated at one point that they listened to players talk about how "scary" PUGs could be. There were also issues of players wanting to run that content simply for the story, quest, etc and were either pressured into moving faster or simply left behind. The companions in part at least will be a solution to that. Because of the way they handled it, I think they may take up a slot in group content, which would make them less than optimal in many cases and wouldnt necessarily be a factor in adjusting the DPS levels.2 -

✭✭Companions will still take up a slot in the group from what I understand. So its not like each player in group can summon a companion to increase their dps. ZOS said they wanted to nerf dps by 10-15% so I guess that worked out pretty well.
I think there will be strong new sets in the new Blackwood chapter, it has been ages since there was an update that actually had good gear for PVE. I think Elsweyr was the last one where I had to farm new gear.PC - EU (AD)Septimus Mezar - Altmer Sorcerer

I farmed the hell out out of Castle Thorn for both Crimson and Unleashed. I use them both as centerpieces on 2 different main characters I play.0
