I want to preface this by saying the new CP system isn't quite as bad as I thought it would be. It's a bit convoluted, and I still have a few issues with the forced CP division, but overall it's not bad at all.

What I do have an issue with is the forced regression of players. If this were strictly a solo game, there would be no issue, but this is a game where endgame PvE is designed around group play (barring the two solo trials, of course). All of these groups have had to effectively halt their current progression to instead spend time grinding CP in order to get back to our previous levels of damage and mitigation. Yes, we can return to older trials, which were designed to be completed with lower damage thresholds and less mitigation, but that brings us back around to the forced regression. Then, to top it all off, we have to wait an entire month for an XP event that would have made this grinding at least a little bearable. Some players may enjoy the CP grind, and if that's you, hats off to you (you're a stronger person than I am) because the mind numbing repetition is making this game seem less and less enjoyable by the minute. My team has had to pull out of the content we were running and enjoying and pair up to level, which feels like work. This is supposed to be a game...fun...not a job, but these changes have necessitated an adoption of a work-minded mentality, just so we can get back to doing what were were before and be valuable and effective team members.

There are things that could have been done to soften the blow. A few free XP scrolls (please not more of the 50% ones though...good grief), a double XP event that landed at the same time as the patch, faster CP gain overall, CP scaling...any combination of those would have helped. I've played this game for a really long time now, and I'm familiar with the scorched earth approach this company takes to making changes, so I can't say I was surprised by this, but I'm still left feeling disappointed and like it's not worth investing in the DLC, which is wild because I normally preorder everything and used to enjoy investing in this company's success via content and crown store purchases.

Just another opinion in the sea of opinions that tend to fall on deaf ears.

Funny enough even if you grinded to 3.6K you still can't unlock the entire tree. Its the biggest 0_o version of a Horizontal progression I have seen. No other game from Guild Wars 1 - To The Secret World has blocked and made a progression system so half-half. It wants to be GW1/TSW, but then stumbles and goes back and forth between choice and straight just "Moar stats with no downside".

Flat stars that just flat boost stats with no penalties <AKA CP FILLER> - All of these should be bundled into base character stats. Who in their damn right mind is going to say "Man I don't want a free 1.2K HP with no downside that doesn't even take a slot!" - That isn't "Meaningful" choice, its just a waste of time.

Overall I like the direction it's gone in. There have been a few positive changes I wasn't quite expecting, in the form of a few QOL changes. and no-CP PVP has much more breathing room stats wise now. I generally feel it's a good idea to reign in the treadmill of power creep, and focus on choice rather than simple stat boosts.

Where I think it misses the ark is where it restricts your choice; there are plenty of points it forces you to "waste" your CP on a previous star in order to unlock the one you want, and that feels unsatisfying. Secondly the trees vary quite a lot in utility... Any damage daler will love the blue tree, they are truly spoiled for choice there. But in the red and green, they will perhaps struggle to find nodes they really want to invest in A problem exacerbated by the issue lots of points they probably DO want are crowded into the already dense blue tree, when they would be more at home in red or green.
