Tri-set (no monster) build viable?

Well....as my DPS got nuked I've had to start looking at things outside the box. Build was (still is):
Mother's Sorrow
Skoria
Medusa
Maestrom Inferno Staff
Skoria's 8% proc does proc often...but at this stage I feel like I need more than "often". Enter the monsterless set build (this is nothing new I'm sure, but different for me at least):
Mother's Sorrow (4 piece light armor)
Medusa (front bar staff and all jewelry)
Burning Spellweave (back bar staff, and 3 piece light armor)
Are builds like this viable for all occasions in overland? How about normal dungeons? Or Vet/Trial? Or heck..not at all really? Thanks for any advice.

DigiAngel✭✭✭✭✭I did...seemed to work ok but at 608 CP I still feel like kind of a newb at gauging how these things should perform. Using SimplDPS at a dolman it reports I pulled 37K DPS on the last dude so...?? My Magcro feels awful squishy though....patch has made it kinda eh

✭✭✭✭✭I think you might be better off with your initial setup. And maybe a different monster set, like Zaan or Maw.
While the second setup would probably be fine in content, the first one is going to be stronger. Or even running BSW and either of the Crit sets, and a monster.0 -
DigiAngel✭✭✭✭✭Thank you...I don't have the DLC for Zaan, and I have a gold Maw but...eh...I dunno Maw seemed kind of annoying...not sure why :-/ I know when properly proc'd it would do a fair amount of damage (5K each attack over 15 seconds, 1 attack every 2 seconds so 7 X 5K for 35K over 15 seconds so 2K DPS). But it's only for single target...and so many bosses have adds that eh...I feel like Skoria handles that a little better. Anyway thanks...I'll have to play around and see where I land.0

✭If you ever checked your damage done numbers after a parse, you should know that a monster set equals to only about 5% of your total damage. So even taking off your monster set completely and not putting anything as a replacement won't just turn your "viable" build into "not viable". There is a tiny difference between using a monster set vs using 2 random pieces.
If you don't want to use a monster set, just slot two different monster pieces. For example Slimecraw head and Zaan shoulders (which you can obtain without DLC). This way you have 2 piece spell crit. It's the best alternative since trying to slot 2 pieces of a 5 piece set will grant you a single stat bonus while this option provides two. Most people do this in content where monster sets aren't viable, for example Sunspire.0
