Drop Rate on Shield of Senchal Armor?

Out of curiosity, what are your experiences with getting Shield of Senchal armor or motifs?

So far, I've gotten TONS of heavy Shield of Senchal armor. I'm talking chests, boots, legs, shoulders, and helmets (never got the belt at all). I've gotten so many of these over the past few months but I've had exactly zero of the medium or light armor. Am I just super unlucky (not surprising), or are the other armor pieces supposed to be this rare? I mainly play a nightblade, so it's frustrating how often I get heavy armor compared to medium armor. 90% of it just gets deconstructed immediately. It's the same with pelletine armor pieces too. It's always light armor, and never medium or heavy.

Note: I don't do the Senchal dailies very often due to their difficulty, but I've legit gotten around 30 of the Shield of Senchal heavy armor pieces. I'm not sure why I keep getting so many of them.

Edit: I really want the hood tbh

Are you asking about the Motif pages, or the armor pieces?

Because the actual armor pieces for the set "Senchal Defender" are in the Shield of Senchal style, but the set only exists as heavy armor, so no light or medium pieces will drop.

The Motif pages for the "Shields of Senchal" style drop from reward chests for doing dailies in Senchal. With those you can craft all weights of armor, as usual.

PS: It's about the same with Pellitine. The set "Crafty Alfiq" is a light armor set in the Pellitine style, so only light armor will drop. But you can get the motif pages from the dragon hunting quests in Northern Elsweyr, and with those you can craft the other two weights, too.

So, only armor sizes of that specific set will drop and the other sizes won't because they aren't part of a set? That's extremely disappointing, and definitely explains it. If this is true, why? Why introduce armor to the game when you can't even find or wear most of it unless you get lucky and find motifs for it? I guess it's a money thing since you can buy the motifs in the store, but damn that's frustrating. Thanks for clearing that up. I've been confused about it for the longest time.

They don't drop because they don't exist. The motif only changes the look of your character not the properties of your armor. Most sets only exist in one weight, the exceptions are crafted sets and the thieves guild and dark brotherhood sets. This is for balancing. Now you can still wear senchal in a medium setup, but you have to use the senchal jewelry and weapons combined with a medium set to do it.

During the release of Southern Elsweyr, there was broad belief among motif farmers that the motifs are on 20 hour cooldown, so it's best to open boxes only until you get a motif.

To any naysayers: This has been done with other motifs, and was anecdotally confirmed by a lot of people, including myself. It also doesn't really hurt.

I seem to get a motif 10-20% of the time?

I know about the motifs (I spend 60% of my time hunting for motifs) but no one ever told me about the armor sets.

At least now you know where to look - and where not. :-/

You could also buy the Motif pages from other players at the guild traders for ingame gold, the crown store thankfully isn't the only source. :-)

The cheapest I've seen for the head motif is 85,000 gold, unfortunately. I only have around 115,000 and I don't see that increasing by much in the near future
