They mentioned it in the February crown store showcase and on the stream well in advance - we knew we are getting Tribunal Celebration this month, just didn't know the exact date.
Which gives me an idea for my pet project...

If you are thinking what I think you are... They also announced earlier this year they were going to create an event calendar I believe, that gave at least a general idea of what would be coming and when

@Michae @Luke_Flamesword as I understand it, OP is talking about upcoming events, not ongoing ones. Like, they didn't know event was on until they logged in and didn't know they need to log in to not miss the start of an event.
So, not "event is on!" notification (these are plenty in-game and in social media), but "event is coming in two days!" in-game too (those are there, technically, in articles and streams, but they not that hard to miss, to be fair)
Edit: OP literally says thatFlopsyPrince wrote: »I do appreciate the notice in the game, but how about having a "this even is coming in 2-4 days" before the event starts?

I was actually cracking up at their responses, but yeah, they didn't really address the OP's point. Seriously though, if the events matter to you, there are so many ways to get a heads up IRL its not funny. I have known about it for quite a while, not the exact date, which in this case was published a week in advance though. Unlike MYM, which we got what, about 12 hours notice on? And FYI, I believe the Jesters festival is coming really soon too, although I haven't really looked it up yet, but you may want to keep an eye out after this one ends.
And it's been on PS4 events already for a few days, dude. If you have PS4's notifications "on", you could had read the message.(...) they didn't know event was on until they logged in and didn't know they need to log in to not miss the start of an event (...)

Fair enough, I misread the op there, I see that now. I thought that they played for 45 minutes only to realize that they missed some tickets. It's a common complaint during the events and I assumed too much. I'm sorry for that.
Still the news about the date of current event were also available for a week on the news site. There was also mention of it 3 weeks ago in the Monthly Showcase, no date but you got heads up. It's really not that hard to make a habit to check it, let's say once a week.
Also look at this screenshot I provided:

There's a window on the left with the news feed from the main site. And low and behold, there's the info about the event right there, posted 7 days ago. If you click it you're taken to the news site with the article about it.
Again, what more do you need?

Ideally? A toggle-able in-game notice, like an event banner or a notification.
They did post on the official website and they did post on twitter about a week ago, but how many people have twitter acc, check official website or dev tracker regularly or log in every day? I mean, I do, but I'm trying to see this from the perspective of people who don't and I think they shouldn't have to.
In the end, it's a small QoL thing.

Especially since it's not the first time OP is complaining about missing the event (https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/559797/since-when-is-january-mid-year#latest). A minimal engagement is a reasonable requirement if you want to participate in the events, and if you visit the forums you can click the banner on top of the site easily and check the articles. There's also a board on the forums discussing recent news (https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/categories/website-article-discussions).

As I shown the news were posted in the game client, and checking the website once a week is hardly a chore. There could be more things, sure, but I'm arguing that the current one is quite sufficient, I want to give credit where credit's due. And some people will miss the news no matter how blatant they are.

I must agree, that for some people nothing would be enough, but when checking website isn't a chore, you need to remember to check it.

I got discord updates letting me know that this was on.
I read an article on the website that this was going to be on later, and then another one that let me know what date it was on.
I also got a playstation notification that there was an event coming.
Not honestly sure what other ways I could have been notified about this event ahead of time.

Holy crap.
Yeah, this does not exist on xbox. Probably the same for the OP on Playtation.
Event notification is terrible for us. It basically doesn't exist within the game until the event launches in the game. This needs to be looked at by the team. PC/Mac is getting way, way better notification in the actual game. Like, as in it actually exists.
I logged in and got this giant announcment covering the whole screen. What else do you want?
EDIT:
I actually went back and checked. You actually get 3 tiers of in game announcments, at least on PC.
First one is on client before you hit PLAY:
Second one is on character select, it's maximised the first time you log in after the event starts:
It's still visible after you minimalise it:
And after you log in you get announcements that also have the info about the event. I couldn't make a screenshot with those open for some reason but they pop up on the first log in of the day and are available in the ESC menu:
So what more do you propose? Maybe something similar to destruction of important items, but instead of "DESTROY" you have to type in "YES I GET IT THERE'S TICKETS" before you're able to close the announcement?
