I logged in today to do riding dailies about 45 minutes before the reset to only then learn of the new event. I had been here a few days before and didn't see anything.

I do appreciate the notice in the game, but how about having a "this even is coming in 2-4 days" before the event starts?

They made a news post about it last week... but they have a huge flashing image above it, so barely anyone sees it. Gotta love the flashy non-functional website designs nowadays! There was a thread a while back, describing all that was bad about the new website they made.

They mentioned it in the February crown store showcase and on the stream well in advance - we knew we are getting Tribunal Celebration this month, just didn't know the exact date.

Which gives me an idea for my pet project...

If you are thinking what I think you are... They also announced earlier this year they were going to create an event calendar I believe, that gave at least a general idea of what would be coming and when

Yes, I remember that, but I think they didn't even post that info about MYM, Tribunal and Jester's Festival.
I thought about posting it in my calendar, but for now there's only Jester's left and it doesn't really need additional confirmation.

Tbh, it's strange. They were extremely stingy with events info for some time and everything was last moment, and then they suddenly posted the whole lineup: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/58775

I logged in and got this giant announcment covering the whole screen. What else do you want?

    EDIT:
I actually went back and checked. You actually get 3 tiers of in game announcments, at least on PC.

First one is on client before you hit PLAY:
    nV54XHY.png

Second one is on character select, it's maximised the first time you log in after the event starts:
    TTQF8h7.png

It's still visible after you minimalise it:
    XX6Zu5b.png

And after you log in you get announcements that also have the info about the event. I couldn't make a screenshot with those open for some reason but they pop up on the first log in of the day and are available in the ESC menu:
    JrkXvOO.png

So what more do you propose? Maybe something similar to destruction of important items, but instead of "DESTROY" you have to type in "YES I GET IT THERE'S TICKETS" before you're able to close the announcement? ;)

There should be pop up box with question "Are you really aware of this event?" - text should be glowing in multiple colour like disco neon and there should some special music and voice talking about event. Then you click "ok" button, but first you have to solve multilevel captcha. Then we have another box with confimation "Are you sure?" and another captcha. At the end to prevent situation, when someone else in your house did it, and you can miss all informations - there will be identity confimation. You have to write some personal data about you and in couple hours someone from confimation hotline will call you just to ask if that really you, asking for your mother's name and some details about your first days in ESO. Then you can login and play :)

@Michae @Luke_Flamesword as I understand it, OP is talking about upcoming events, not ongoing ones. Like, they didn't know event was on until they logged in and didn't know they need to log in to not miss the start of an event.

So, not "event is on!" notification (these are plenty in-game and in social media), but "event is coming in two days!" in-game too (those are there, technically, in articles and streams, but they not that hard to miss, to be fair)

    Edit: OP literally says that

I was actually cracking up at their responses, but yeah, they didn't really address the OP's point. Seriously though, if the events matter to you, there are so many ways to get a heads up IRL its not funny. I have known about it for quite a while, not the exact date, which in this case was published a week in advance though. Unlike MYM, which we got what, about 12 hours notice on? And FYI, I believe the Jesters festival is coming really soon too, although I haven't really looked it up yet, but you may want to keep an eye out after this one ends.

Jester's is one of the "fixed" events, my gold is on March 25th.

As for hunting for events info, I realize that not everyone may be such a... uhm... shinies-hungry lootgoblin as I am, and watch all the ESO official streams and follow them on social media and stuff like that. Heck, some people aren't on social media at all (like, I'd use Facebook only under a threat of death). So I'd agree that game-relevant info should be available in-game, but I'm not sure if anyone actually advertises upcoming events.

Fair enough, I misread the op there, I see that now. I thought that they played for 45 minutes only to realize that they missed some tickets. It's a common complaint during the events and I assumed too much. I'm sorry for that.

Still the news about the date of current event were also available for a week on the news site. There was also mention of it 3 weeks ago in the Monthly Showcase, no date but you got heads up. It's really not that hard to make a habit to check it, let's say once a week. Especially since it's not the first time OP is complaining about missing the event (https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/559797/since-when-is-january-mid-year#latest). A minimal engagement is a reasonable requirement if you want to participate in the events, and if you visit the forums you can click the banner on top of the site easily and check the articles. There's also a board on the forums discussing recent news (https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/categories/website-article-discussions).

Also look at this screenshot I provided:
    nV54XHY.png
There's a window on the left with the news feed from the main site. And low and behold, there's the info about the event right there, posted 7 days ago. If you click it you're taken to the news site with the article about it. So there is some info when you boot up the actual game, at least on PC.

Again, what more do you need?

Ideally? A toggle-able in-game notice, like an event banner or a notification.

They did post on the official website and they did post on twitter about a week ago, but how many people have twitter acc, check official website or dev tracker regularly or log in every day? I mean, I do, but I'm trying to see this from the perspective of people who don't and I think they shouldn't have to.
In the end, it's a small QoL thing.

I just want to say, I only start the launcher on patch days. Any other day, I have the eso.exe shortcut on my desktop. Saves me a step, and the launcher is annoying.

That said. I knew about the event from other sources.

You also need to remember to log in everyday during the event. Let's not split hairs here. ;)

The info's on the launcher too. It's really not the dev's fault people skip it. I guarantee you people would skip pop up in game or would be complaining then that they only got a week notice and they were away for that week. It's reasonable to require minimal engagement from those wanting to participate in the events.

Gotta love how people are so dang sarcastic and quick to attack OPs that they don't even bother reading the full original post lol.

I gotta agree with the OP, though while I knew it was coming, it would be nice to have even a 24hr notice in game, even in the same spot, in that corner where you pick your character.

I got an email ahead of time from their marketing team that this was on.

I got discord updates letting me know that this was on.

I read an article on the website that this was going to be on later, and then another one that let me know what date it was on.

I also got a playstation notification that there was an event coming.

Not honestly sure what other ways I could have been notified about this event ahead of time.

I can sympathize with the OP feeling that they missed out on event tickets. ZOS has been pretty good about announcing things in the launcher, in email blasts and on social but things could be improved if they confirm the actual event dates further in advance, then those dates can be similarly repeated across all their communications.

There is probably a good reason why they can't lock in those dates earlier, like it hinging on development or bug fixes that have yet to go live.

They could have flown a plane over your house and written it in the sky. Of course, if you didn’t look up you would have missed it, but that’s not their fault 🤣

On a more serious note, I do agree that ESO needs an in game calendar like the one in WoW. I’m not sure, but I think even Neverwinter has one of those.

Yeah, this does not exist on xbox. Probably the same for the OP on Playtation.

Event notification is terrible for us. It basically doesn't exist within the game until the event launches in the game. This needs to be looked at by the team. PC/Mac is getting way, way better notification in the actual game. Like, as in it actually exists.

I play on PS4 and this event was not a surprise to me.

There is also events all damn year, all the time now. So if you add more notifications, they're gonna start overlapping each other soon.

There is nothing wrong with the way things are now. If you don't know that an event is on its way. It's your own fault.

    EDIT:
I actually went back and checked. You actually get 3 tiers of in game announcments, at least on PC.

First one is on client before you hit PLAY:

Second one is on character select, it's maximised the first time you log in after the event starts:

It's still visible after you minimalise it:

And after you log in you get announcements that also have the info about the event. I couldn't make a screenshot with those open for some reason but they pop up on the first log in of the day and are available in the ESC menu:

So what more do you propose? Maybe something similar to destruction of important items, but instead of "DESTROY" you have to type in "YES I GET IT THERE'S TICKETS" before you're able to close the announcement? ;)

I want to know BEFORE the event, not the day of.

I would have come on more than 45 minutes before the reset had I known.

No notice was given the day before!

I pretty much never check the News. My link is straight to this General forum. So I can see how someone might miss it.

(That said, I found out about it on the general forum yesterday, and finally got around to re-downloading the game last night to do the first day's tickets.)
