Trying to make alts, but when I see everything I need to farm again...

... I lose all motivation. Unlocking all those shrines, hunting skyshards, levelling all necessary skill lines, horse training, trait research, bag space upgrades, even just adjusting settings for the new alt... And I'm not even mentioning quests. Frankly given how long loading screens are, it's a pain to even relog. Every time I make a new alt, I end giving up on them within an hour or so.

Idk, building my main who is CP600ish atm took so much effort and sacrifices, that I can't bring myself to even do 10% of that again. I'd very much rather complete all content on one character - which tbf is immersion-breaking, because one person cannot be savior, fighter, mage, crafter, fisher, thief, assassin, explorer, undaunted, alliance warrior, duelist, trader, etc... but I guess this is the lesser of two evils.

Not complaining about the game, just laying out how lazy I am, I guess. Wondering if any minority feels the same? I know there's an altmania going around, which is understandable, given the vast content of this game.

I get it. I have a main that I main hard. I don't have the immersion problem, so alts are that much less appealing to me. I've been dragged kicking and screaming to make a few alts and it's been a very rough adjustment.

I agree. Horse to 60/60/60. Undaunted, MG, FG all level up. Legardman up to get optimal chest bashing. Antiquities to 7 for glowing chests perk. Psijic up to get portals. Unlocking wayshrines all over Tamriel to go wherever I want. . . .

And when I make an alt, I insist on bringing them all the way up to ensure they get a full and fair evaluation. I have two of my nine characters that are 'retired' since, though I'm glad I tried them, I learned I don't click with their class/spec. But at this point, starting a new alt just seems too overwhelming to be bothered with. That is why I'd like to respec the two alts that are retired into differing classes to try something new without investing in a six month grind.

22 toons across 2 accounts. 10 each account on eu. 1 each account on na. 2-3 hrs every day crafting dailies. Sunday dedicated to survey maps. 15 of 60 ish. Crafting set stations all from writ vouchers. Takes time to make guildies training sets for free. Ya sure it’s a game.

Yeah it takes about a good year to fully max out a character... Not sure I have the time for this. Wish we could change classes but oh well.
I have a main that I main hard. I don't have the immersion problem, so alts are that much less appealing to me.
The way I deal with this is head-canoning that after the main quest, the power of the Red Diamond still lingers in my main, making him essentially a god... so he can walk the lands of Tamriel and be everywhere, and do everything, and save (or kill) everyone.

If you have crowns/gold, you can level up quite fast. I just made a new character and had it raid ready in 3 days. Skyreach runs are 10k a run, and everyone has XP scrolls. You can get to 50 insanely fast and have all your skills leveled by rotating them out when they get to morph. Buy the most annoying guild lines to level, mostly undaunted. Mages and psijic can be leveled fairly quickly and fighters will be leveled in skyreach. Do random normal and random BG every day. You don't have to be good at pvp or even win the BG match.. you will still get alot of XP. Level alliance lines thru BGs to get rapids and/or go to cyro and follow the zerg/repair walls. You can get to lvl 5 for rapids in a couple days. If you have a couple zones unlocked buy the skyshards from them and then get the rest when you pick up lorebooks in each zone. Between that and leveling you will have plenty of skyshards. If you have some gems saved up from lootboxes you can at least get your horse to 10 or 20, and then paired with rapids it wont be so slow.

Also if you dont have crowns but have alot of gold, you can purchase the skill lines through a discord like Tamriel Crown Exchange.

Not gonna pay for skill lines, I think we shouldn't encourage this system, so that ZOS sees that class change tokens will sell more than skill lines.

There's no shame in being the kind of player who only wants to do everything once and all on the same character. That's fine, just as it's fine to be the kind of player who wants to repeat enjoyable content and spread his/her playing time over multiple characters.

Much of the difference in approach comes down to whether you're competitive or not. If you are, then there may well be lots of skill lines and achievements you feel you must get on all of your characters, which may well be more than you're willing to do, but if you're not competitive then most of those things won't matter and you won't consider the content you do to involve any kind of farm or grind.

    I just don't rush.

Log in for horse training every day, take them out to guild events where we get skyshards and such, then start taking them on dungeon runs on occasion. They're level 50 and good to go before long.

Doing things one step at a time prevents burnout for me.

(I just got the 1000 chest achievement on my 6th character today, and he's almost level 7 in Excavation for the glowy chests)

If you don't enjoy the journey, don't take it (I also strongly recommend against falling for the cheat code solution selling in the cash shop given they are a terrible deal as one-time, overpriced transactions). I only had one character for a long time, and if I didn't enjoy telling stories (the journey) I sure as hell wouldn't have bothered either.

One human life is short. When it comes to entertainment and recreation, it's hard to justify doing "recreation" that isn't enjoyable for you (at that point it isn't really recreation at all, is it?).

The best advice I got when starting this game was:

    1. Make crafters
    2. Train the horses

So now I have 1 Main
16 other characters with I can play with 60 60 60 already in the bag.
And from the gold from crafting I can do all the Name, Alliance, Appearance and race changes I want.

So best Advice I can give you is.

Make Crafters and Train their Horses!

    ps do it In VVanderfell

Horse training is ridiculous to me. It’s just a. Cheap way for ZOS to get people to log in everyday. I don’t understand how anyone defends it. It’s not exciting or interesting content it’s a cheap gimmick.

Interesting :) I don't feel the same. I usually try find activities that I can do with my alts, and I never feel repeat it grind, level up or collect skill points. For example my last 2 character, I do only public dungeons and normal mode dungeons and I reached the lvl 50. It was super fun.

I usually do activities with alts during events. For example every world boss: easy, more players don't neeed to wait etc.
Every activity like crafting, research, mount traing, etc. short time daily activity. You can do it with more than one character at once.

Loading screens?! Few sec / characters, last 2 years ZOS did great work with rebuild backend, much better than before. I hope they will implement the sleeping inactive accounts (as they said before). I think it is missing yet. Sometimes 'requesting character load' is long time, but sometimes is very fast.

CP farming!?! I do daily craft with 12 characters (6 class * 2 (stam+mag)) I have lots of writs. With Grand Gold Cost xp scroll or Mythic Aetherial Ambrosia +150% exp. During a hour I can collect 3M+ exp. ~CP 1400 3CP/hour I like crafting I don't feel this is a grind, and on PC have some very useful addon. I only do this extra CP farming activity 2-3 hours/week :)

I have a very different feeling. I left ESO sometimes and I come back always. Last feeling. There are 2 new MMO on the horizon that I'm waiting for (New World and Ashes of Creation)
I have a mid pc (GTX 1050 2GB). That 2 new MMO willl run with low/mid configuration, now the ESO run with Ultra configuration , that 2 game will start with bugs, with low contents, with many problems, that ESO has already fixed. The only cons to ESO, I play this game since 2014. That is a problem?! I feel now no!

I asked myself why I want to play a new game with tons of problems when I can play a super game and I have some alts can do activites.

I have made one new alt each year, start them with horse training buy some inventory slots, start them with research.
Do a bit of the main quest and jumping around for easy skyshards so they get to 10, then random dungeons until 50.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

"Need to farm again.." What? Nahh.. you never stop farming for stuff. Been going on this game for over 5 years now and having created and deleted over 50 different toons of all class and variations, I am always farming for mats continuously and looking out for new version of sets and build pieces. You just don't stop getting off your mounts and picking up things; mats, nodes, chests, loots, etc; or hitting those dungeons, world bosses or treasure chests hunting to collect pieces. Unless you're a strictly PvPer in Cyrodiil who doesn't really farm for things, you will always continuous to farm for things and pick up things all throughout greater Tamriel PvE land.

I agree I have 13 and was pushing for 3 of each. I really want to make an Argo but not feeling the grind again.

What I typically did was premake them and buy horses each day. By the time I level them that would be out the way.

Now that I’m done on 13 not sure I want to knock out more.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

I do different things on different alts and most of the things you’ve listed aren’t needed on every character. If a character needs warhorn, I do just enough PvP to unlock that, for instance. Undaunted takes a while, but I don’t need everything instantly and friends and guildies are always doing pledges so I just join on one of my characters that need to level Undaunted. :)

Fighter’s Guild is leveled just by playing the game, but if I want to unlock Dawnbreaker on a character, sure I run some dolmens or so to get it sooner. Mages Guild is more of a pain, yes, so again, I only worry about it if I want Meteor. Ledgerdomain, I’m good at the lock-picking mini-game, so again, I’ll get there when I get there. I can’t even imagine leveling Antiquities on every character! I’m only now working on my second for the siege weapons that are character bound. I don’t take the glowing chest passive even when available nor for gathering nodes either — I like finding things in the world and my eye has become quite attuned to it.

What does that leave? Skill points, yes, well surely I created this alt to do something, whether it’s specific questlines or dungeons or PvP or some combination thereof. I reassign skill points as needed to focus on what I want that character to do and eventually they’ll have enough to branch out, contribute more to crafting etc. Speaking of which, why make more of a chore of crafting than the daily writs? I slowly learn traits on my alts but there’s no rush. My main crafter focused on that from the beginning and takes care of everyone’s needs! Wayshrines are unlocked as I need them or wish to explore. I have quite a few properties and quite a few guildies so any character can get where I want to go, why worry about unlocking every point?

TL;DR Doing all things on all alts would, for me, take away part of the reason I have them. There are things I am working toward on each of the characters I play regularly, but that’s playing the game, isn’t it? I’ll put in extra effort to get things that a character needs for their role but otherwise, just enjoy the game, play the character and content I’m in the mood for, enjoy the journey. :sunglasses:

I recently started a new character because my sister started playing, but without her fresh perspective on the game I'd cringe thinking about all the stuff to complete all over again. I don't mind the zone quests and exploration, but I have zero interest in the five companions storyline.
Blessed are those who explore the unbeaten path...

If your going to have Alts grind them quickly to 50 so they can start earning CP

Also if you dont have crowns but have alot of gold, you can purchase the skill lines through a discord like Tamriel Crown Exchange.

You can't purchase skill lines with gold, has to be crowns. They can't be gifted so you have to have the crowns yourself.

One of your toons has to have completed the skill line, and you can then buy it for other toons with crowns.

Exactly, not to mention having to do every single quest again. Too annoying. All I want to do is just play a different class after all this time and not lose progress.
Exactly this! I just want to try out other classes but I literally can't because of how poorly this is designed. So eventually I will get bored with the game and stop paying ESO+. I would pay a lot for class change tokens though.

This only bothered me before i found my class.

Once i found the warden everything made sense, and all the epic work just reinforces how i didn't like any other class anyway.

Ironically once you're good with the fact that you'll only ever need that one character, rolling alts becomes appealing again.

That's a very fair point! My main class was one of the main reasons I bought the game. The fact that I can't bother playing an alt for more than 10 minutes probably means I don't like the class.
