kill every skeevaton and scorpion, and catch every dovah fly, for their clockwork oscillators? I do, because you're guaranteed 1 oscillator, and often 2, for each one you loot. In no time at all you can collect enough for 1000 gold or more.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

    They're worth 9 gold at max level, so there are far quicker way to get 1000 gold.

    For some reason the "catch" action (for dovah flies, butterflies etc.) always seems like too much effort to me. No problem looting nodes, chests, critters but as soon as I see fleshflies I just cba.

    The only trash drops I care about are the six that the Bursar of Tributes asks for as quest items.

    I'm not talking about running around doing nothing but farm skeevatons, etc. I'm talking about grabbing them while you're doing other things. If you're running around anyway, possibly looting everything (as I do), why wouldn't you grab something that's guaranteed to give you 9 or 18 gold apiece, especially if they're so omnipresent that you can easily end up with 200 or more clockwork oscillators (1800 gold or more) after a brief session of questing? That's on top of whatever else you earn.

    But it's good to know that you're leaving them for me. :)

    This was the original plan, but by the time I've made it to 100 kills it became compulsion :D . Will kill any skeevaton in sight, not even thinking about it. Not the scorpions, though ...
