Wait...how is Tormentor an AoE taunt?

If I'm understanding correctly, the 5-peice is: "(5 items) When you deal direct damage with a Charge, Leap, Teleport or Pull ability, you gain 3642 Physical and Spell Resistance and taunt the enemy to attack you for 15 seconds."

    Or has that changed?
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...

I play tank and healer but I only care if they drop aggro or die. Adds don't really live long enough to cc, and if we clear the dungeon then what does it matter? Tanking isn't as easy as it looks.

Some Leaps and Teleports have an AoE component to them so you taunt everything in the impact radius.

    Taking too much damage
    My bare minimum is:
    1) Hold boss aggro
    2) Don't get one-shotted
    3) Don't kite bosses out of AoE

I don't really think that's too much to ask, but it's all too common that I queue into a random vet dungeon with a "tank" that has 17k health and either doesn't taunt at all or thinks that dodge rolling all over the place is an acceptable alternative to blocking.

just a bonus question... a bit off topic

what do you think is the optimal hp for tanks.

templar's ability explosive charge does AOE DIRECT damage. so does the charge from 2h skill. i never tried this but it should proc aoe taunts because they both do aoe direct damage.

I don't know about "optimal", but for vet dungeons, anything under 20k is an obvious "fake" tank. Heck, I would argue that you shouldn't be doing vet dungeons in any role with less than 18k.

I'll also be suspicious that anyone queueing as a tank with less than 28k isn't really planning to do the role, but I'll at least give them a chance before I dismiss them as "fakes".

I'm pretty sure the bar for properly tanking some of the DLC dungeons is even higher, but I'm fairly willing to cut people a little slack if they seem like they're trying.

    35k - 40k is typically the standard, I think.

A tank that will not stand still. I understand sidestepping AoE but some of them act like they are a tour guide leading what they taunted to every little corner of the room. I mostly heal and try to position myself so at the very least I can keep an ey on tank and DPS. Best case we all line up tank-evil doer-DPS-me all in a straight line. Irritates me when a DPS insists on standing behind me but this is about tanks.
If the tank mostly holds the bad guys in one spot I am keeping everybody alive. Works well for all involved.

what about in cases where tank has to pull ranged adds that spawn during boss fights.
for example when fighting selene in selenes web. ranged mob spawns and tanks have to sometimes move quite alot depending on position to get in range of pull skills.
not talking about mechs where everyone including tank is forced to move around the field. talking about situations where tank has to get in range of pull skills.

I aim for 40k; that way I don't really have to worry about standing in red for a bit, and it makes it easier on the healer. If I can't take too many direct hits, then I'm at risk of moving the boss to far when I reposition or dodge and that makes it harder on the DPS.

With Selene's, it helps a LOT to have some kind of voice chat to call out to the tank.

But in general part of it is positioning so that the "edges" of the fight aren't too far from where the tank is taunting/pulling peeps to so that will minimize the dancing all around.

Not having a taunt is pretty much it or keeping the boss still if possible. Everything else is extra.

One thing this polls shows is templar is in bad need of a cc ability a tank can use.

Templar now has an AoE taunt option with armour of the tormentor. I find it's very nice for trash collection and especially useful when running randoms with squishy low level dps or healers.

Taunt is not templar's problem it's the lack of a cc skill a tankplar can use.

Not used tormentor personally, kind of always thought it was for a werewolves that wanted to tank also. AOE taunt is is a big price for 5peice set that does not help the group. Just my 2 cents.

    Stay safe :)

When I tank Selene's, I just pull her into the back end of one of the corridors up against a tree and turn her so she's got her back to everyone.. It really cuts down on trash mobs. It's kind of dangerous because you really get beat on, but the benefit is the DPS aren't getting hit by many trash mobs.

Not having a taunt or constantly losing aggro. I get it can happen once or twice, especially if they're a new tank (and that's the annoying thing about once hitting level 50, if they're CP810 you can't even tell if someone is on a new toon anymore), but constantly losing it is a problem.
