Lyranth (Wild Speculation Inside!)

At first, she shows up to squash Molag Bal's plans of Nirn domination. She's not at the forefront, but without her, the vestige would not have succeeded.

Then she shows up to help rid the Imperial City prison of its invaders, citing revenge for her alleged tribe. Again, she does not do anything herself really, but point the team in the right direction.

Now she's helping stop ... Mehrunes Dagon from invading? A completely different Daedric prince?

She doesn't come across as a normal dremora. She's always part of the plot to thwart major Daedric invasions. So I'm going to throw this out there:

What if Lyranth is Boethiah? Think about how the other Daedric princes would fare if one got a hold of Nirn. And Lyranth is always there to throw a subtle wrench into their cogs - using deceit of mortals and Daedra alike to achieve her goals, without directly doing it herself. Boethiah's spheres of influence directly oppose those of Molag Bal (domination vs. overthrow of authority) and you can't have a revolution if you're destroyed (Mehrunes Dagon's all about turning everything to ash).

Hm, that's an interesting idea! Or she is Boethiah's agent. For me, I had personal thoughts that she is trying to become a new daedric princess by spreading her influence and interfere in global events. If players become stronger via fighting or solving conflicts, then it may be the same for natives of tes-universe.

She only indirectly helps you thwart agents of molag bal to get revenge for her clan, but she is still loyal to him. I presume her goals in the coming year have to do with the fact that Dagon is a rival to Bal, which is why she wants to stop him.

It's possible. Boethiah has only appeared in-game as either a Chimer ghost (Aspera, the Forgotten) and a Dunmer (Aspera, Giant-Friend) though, but it's not like she's restricted to taking on the form of a particular race.

That said, what if she's only helping the Vestige because we are (unknowingly) helping Molag Bal? Bal's parting words at the end of the main quest imply there are greater threats than the Planemeld, and it's been true for the recent main events in the game (The Celestial Serpent, the Daedric War, Dragons in Elsweyr, Gray Host, etc).

Maybe Bal accepts that we defeated him but he's not above helping us to thwart the plans of his fellow princes, and he's sent Lyranth as an agent to help us?

The new character description that was on the main page a few days ago sounded a bit different (rather hinting away from Boethiah), but who knows... This book is quite interesting for this topic, btw:

"Boethiah, the Daedric Prince of deceit and conspiracy, utilizes avatars to impose her will upon the world. These avatars, always tricky and often unpredictable, can appear as males or females, Dark Elves or some other race. They usually insert themselves into important or momentous events, working behind the scenes to drive such events to a conclusion that serves the will of their secretive master."

The forceful expression of will gives true honor to the Ancestors.

I kind of just figured that the Coldharbour and Imperial City business WAS her getting revenge for her clan, and this new affair is her attempt to gain power and/or revive her clan in one way or another.

She has been my favorite NPC. The voice actress really does a good job bringing her "mocking superiority" through with excellent dialogues.

I'm not getting my hopes up.

I read the "meet the character" article for Lyranth. It tells me exactly what to expect.

Lyranth will "be a powerful, if prickly, ally". Expect nothing more. She's not the traitor or the princess.

"She has served Molag Bal and walked her own path." She's quit working for Molag Bal and now she doesn't work for anyone.

"She hates such mortal foibles as normal bodily functions." No more flirting.

This is ESO, not TESIII. This is simple stories, easily understood. No hidden agendas. No unexpected reversals of fortune.

She was also held captive during the Dominions Skin-Stealer plot in Shadowfen. There too she directs the player-character. If she is an avatar of Boethiah it has been a long play for sure. Especially when we come across Boethiah in the same Alliance under the appearance of another.

My personal opinion is that Lyranth is just a lower daedra that is not just interested in revenge for her clan, but also power. Maybe shes hoping to make it to the next Kalpa as a Daedric Prince.
