I would love Cross-play in ESO and am surprised more players don't. Do you?

I'm surprised more players don't want cross-play in ESO. Here are my reasons for wanting it.

    1. This would likely also result in us being able to access our characters, unlocked, and purchased content across all systems.

Yes, ZOS does make money from re-purchases by people who switch platforms. However they don't make as much as you might think. I myself have a really good gaming pc but I'm not switching from xbox simply because of all the purchased content I have on it. The PC experience is far better but still not worth re-buying everything I have thus far. I would be willing to make a one time purchase for a full transfer though.

    2. Those who have the same content unlocked on both platforms could be given crowns for the duplicates. This of course wouldn't be quite as many free crowns as you the reader are probably thinking. However this would still stimulate the ESO economy regardless. How? I don't think this post needs the full explanation of how economies work but the short answer is that free money encourages people to spend more than the amount given for free. This doesn't quite work as planned IRL because of greedy rich hoarders but it works in MMOs and therefor means more money for ZOS. Free crowns given doesn't cost ZOS a thing AND encourages further purchases.

    3. Patches and DLC will be synced! Hey console players, doesn't it annoy you when you have to wait 2 weeks to a month more for new content and DLC? Does it annoy you that despite the extra wait you still have to deal with the bugs and glitches in the update? How about the fact that it can take up to two months for issues to be fixed on console even though they were fixed within the first week on PC? Cross-play would force ZOS to keep the updates synced for PC and consoles and fix some of these issues. This would result in PC having to wait for patches to be vetted and approved on console but they wouldn't realize this since ZOS would announce patches for the expected ready date on console and not PC. Also ZOS would probably stop holding onto fixes for later to implement as one bigger patch and implement them sooner on console.

    4. More balanced campaigns! Assuming ZOS would add "cross-play off" campaigns as an option, ESO having cross-play would make the factions more balanced. On one system red is dominant, another yellow, and the other blue. If cross-play was added to ESO the factions would balance out more. As for the whole issue of pvp'ers blaming their loss on the enemy having addons/mods, well thats what the "cross-play off" campaigns would be for! Players who can't take and learn from losses can stick to those campaigns and continue blaming proc sets like usual.

    5. Improved social climate. On console most players use voice chat only but some use keyboards with their console for text chat. On PC it is apparently the opposite. In fact I just read a post that said PC doesn't even have voice chat, how do you guys even pvp when randos are involved!? Cross-play being added would likely result in people on console using text chat having a better social experience and PC players getting dedicated voice chat like console. Also, cross-play would also change things for guilds in interesting ways.

    6. Speaking of guilds, cross-play would add some competition to the guild trading hubs. On xbox US megaserver a specific multi-guild trading guild usually has most of the guild traders in Mournhold. I found one that wasn't owned by the them once but after a month of using that other guild's Mournhold trader the guild itself was bought by that mutli-guild trading guild. Why do I avoid this specific massive trading guild? They have terrible bookkeeping. So now I can't sell in Mournhold. If cross-play was added this unnamed guild would finally have some competition in Mournhold. Oh and console players could start using those online databases for active sales...perhaps I should have lead with that...

I'm sure there's more good things that cross-play would bring to ESO but that's all I have for now. I might add more later.

Now I'm curious. Do you want cross-play added to ESO? Remember, you're voting in what you WANT and not what you think will happen.

Would be hard with oc due to add ons. The seem minor but some are a must sadly.

All those poor console people I'd end up fighting... No, let them be separate because the differences between the two platforms is huge. Had PC not had add-ons I might have said yes, but because they do exist console would be disadvantaged.

I really don't care if cross-play is added or not.
The game barely functions from one patch to the next on console. Blue screens, DCs, dropped from server... thats with a server dedicated to one platform. I can only imagine how bad it would be if they had cross play.

And that's not even touching on the performance/add-on advantage of PC which would become even more toxic with in game chat

The way ESO works you can not really crossplay unless they merge servers. Server merge will be an bad idea as PC-EU already have issues with too many players. Luckily dungeon finder seems to work most of the time.
Having 4 man groups not using the finder but bypassing it solved lots of problems I think.

This ignoring other issues like how pc have addons and console has build in voice chat.

Now having the ability to change server should be an thing.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

With the server issues and the fact that PC has addons, I dont want to see any kind of cross play.

Im PC only and I will never buy a console so I could care less about those platforms

If what we are hearing is correct in that the consoles are really that bad off performance-wise, I could see them allowing a one time account transfer but you wouldnt be guaranteed to keep your account and character names because they might already exist on PC.

I believe cross-save is a bare consumer protection standard the entire industry needs to adopt, and every consumer should demand. I mean come on guys! Aren't you guys tired of being forced to buy the same game over again to play on a different platform?

No, because I've never done that.

edit: I've bought multiple copies of PC games over the years, like my original outdated disc copies of Oblivion, Fallout 3, or Titan Quest; and then newer complete editions on Steam/etc. But that's a different issue.

    Absolutely not lol

Biggest reason is addons. Pc players have an insane advantage In literally every area of the game because of addons. Better parse readouts, current selling price for items addons, point to material nodes addons, swap gear addons, aoe timers addons, block and rolldodge now addons, skyshard lore book addons. Console has none of these and its nowhere close to an even playing field.

Also a crossplay disabled platform would split the pvp population more than it is already. We dont need more competition for traders, bid prices are already insane.

no ty pvp alone, console too far a disadvantage (keyboard far greater than controller) i do however think account transfers (paid or unpaid) would be nice. giving people the option to transfer to play with friends would be awesome.

I don’t want it but then again if it were even possible to do it they would have to add at least 3 servers and then what would be the point anyway? There’s too many players across all platforms. Too many guilds. Could you imagine the cost of traders in main city like Mournhold if all platforms combined. Add ons do make a difference. Would it be fair for some ppl on server to use TTC for example and some not? Pvp has been brought up and that’s one I do not agree with for whatever reason players on console are better at pvp. I play both Xbox and pc so I can tell a difference. There’s so many reasons not to do it and too many complications for them to even take the time to try it imo.

Unless they give console addons, faster load screens and better FPS forget about it. Cross play would destroy the console version of the game. Even enabling it for just Xbox and Playstation is a bad idea as most patches the game runs better on Xbox. PS4 is a pile of hot garbage most of the time.

This is a weak excuse because if we had cross-save and they really felt cheated, they could always just log in on a PC and use those same mods against you later. There just isn't any excuse not to have cross-save at the very minimum... none... unless you list a bunch of anti-consumer and anti-trust anti-competition reasons.

The performance differences of consoles and PC are too vast to be fair, plus PC has access to things like Add-ons.

Maybe Xbox and PlayStation could have Cross Play, but they can't sit at the same Table as PC.

    Yes, I would like cross-play.
Here is my issues with it, performance , another reason is the way consoles and pc works. Its bad enough patches are held back because of Stadia, we would have to wait because of the consoles to get a lot of fixes that pc version needs. Another reason is because console players will be at a disadvantage, and worse addons might get removed all together from pc. Because of the various reasons, its a bad idea. Now its another thing if they merged the ps4 and xbox versions in a cross play as both are consoles but its unlikely that will ever happen.

So all in all, its a really bad idea, and each platform is fine having their own unique servers.

I would lose literally 0 sleep if add-on's were removed. Add-on's should not be a valid argument against cross platform.

Sadly how ingrained in it is and ZoS not wanting lose subs and money it becomes a valid arguement besides the issues those platforms have with patches... Playstation being worst of all time to time. Never looking back after swapping to pc.

Could you imagine PS4 guilds wanting to get a guild trader thats not in a thieves den?

Or PC Players offering PS4 players 400g per crown for crown trading?

PC players literally have smoother and higher frame rates over PS4 and Xbox. They would win every PVP battle and thats even before the addons.

I voted yes because I wouldn't mind limited crossplay, like maybe PVP server or transfering accounts with 0 items on them.

    Yes, I would like cross-play.
Console to console cross play only. Even without addon's the Pc version is too different with how things have been established to change and console users won't be able to match. but Wbecause of addon's there's a huge different as well and PC will never give that up, and consoles will never get them.

I don't buy the 'performance issues' argument though. that's not a cross play issue, that'd be a server /population issue. go with me on this for a bit. Imagine if every single players currently on ESO unanimously decided to all switch to ps4 and all bought copies and all played ONLY on ps4 at their normal times... you're telling me there WON'T be performance issues then? because that's how it sounds when someone says cross play will bring performance issues when really, that'd be a sign of ZOS letting their servers run in such a state to be unable to handle more than 30 people in a zone.

So how about instead of "No, cause performance" we say "Yes, but also fix the servers and performance problems that occur in general"?
