For me both are equally important and I tend to decorate the entire space. Just wondering what others consider most important in choosing a house.

Bonus features, storage, how far is the house from wayshrine/big hub etc.

For example, that Craglorn Arena has traps inside and I bought it because I see benefit in having such extra features
Negative things about this house is that wayshrine is too far away. Also, it is not near any major hub.

    Awake, but at what cost

To be more specific, I prefer smaller house interiors because I find decorating them more manageable, and slightly larger outdoor spaces because I prefer lots of natural vegetation. Location is quite important if it fits with the theme of the character.

Honestly, I still think Linchal Manor is the best House I've seen.

It has a huge outdoor area, with equal parts grassy plots and stone sections, so you can put all types of large objects from Trees to Statues to Machinery, etc. There's even the shallow pool featurette for any aquatic furnishings.

Then it has the isolated barn, which can be converted into any type of large display/storage room.

And the house itself is large, but with nicely divided rooms and a great layout.

But the best thing is that, overall, The property is very large, but not massive to the point that even with 700 furnishings, things look empty.

Having an outside area is very important for me, especially if it is a smaller house. It was one of the must-haves when I bought my first house, because I wanted to have an area for practicing with the training dummy.

I also like the transition of going outside the house before leaving to go back to another zone and having the space and being able to put some decorations there. I typically leave it natural and put plants and trees, statues and a few structures out there. This allows me to use more of the slots inside the house.

I'd say both but not necessarily at the same time. I love the "construction site" plots, the most fun I had with housing was in my Coldharbour Surreal Estate, where I could just build what I want. At the same time even decorating inn rooms is fun so closed off interriors are welcome too. The real problem is when you have both the large courtyard and large empty interior, that's when you run out of slots, and also unless a build is transforming the plot entirely, I like to keep a feel of the original house, so I'm not really a member of "build something outrageous in the castle courtyard" club. ;)
But I plan to build stuff mostly at the moment instead of actually building, I don't really have that much houses. Yet.

Location is important too, for example I have "snugpod" for one reason only: recall to the undaunted enclave. Well, the wayshrine and guild traders are reasonably close also.

It will be even better after the upcoming patch, with recall outside the door, assuming I can still step foot in a dungeon after having my brains nerfed out by the cp rework.

It is also a storage closet, but anything can be.

    The outdoor area
Based on my actions, if the house has land, then the land holds my attention while the house might get entirely closed off.

My Grand Psijic Villa, for example, got the full treatment outside with an outlaw area, cobbled boats, and a log cabin built high-up next to the big waterfalls to the left of the house. The house entrance was blocked. (I have moved on to other houses and dismantled some of the build.)

Before I entered a contest to decorate the inside of the home at Antiquarian's Alpine Gallery, I was going strong on the outside making a guard house, apple tree, etcetera, all of which I had to gut to have enough slots.

I have more examples but it seems I like to build the outside more than the inside.

The outdoor area mostly because it's easier access if I decide to put crafting stations/dummies etc., than going through a door.

depends though i would like more racial outdoor areas for now since we have so many race homes, the option to get land in those areas and more racial building componants in there style would be better for now imo.

I like that too, and I decided I would only buy houses where you entered into the outdoor space. It just seems backwards that you would enter the house, then go outside. I've not been able to stick to it though. :(

For me, it comes to size of the home vs the furniture allotment. These newer homes are absolutely huge and 700 slots are not enough to make it seem complete when you have reached your furniture limit.

The last house I purchased was the Lakemire Xanmeer Manor and I ended up blocking off the upstairs and 90% of the outside, making the entrance a small courtyard. The house is my library with all the readable books you can acquire, is currently at 670 slots, it almost has that "lived in" look.

I try to build the inside first. Depending on how many more items left I can place afterwards, I'll work the outside a bit.

For me its about the outdoor space as I typically build my own house and block off the original one.
As a matter of fact, I'd love if they made a few of the older houses available with the structures removed and had them as empty plots
