Need help picking a build!

I had a great time in the Elder Scrolls games back in the day. I want to play ESO, but I'm recovering from nerve damage in my hand, and action combat is difficult for me. In particular, I have trouble moving while attacking and with timing dodges. I'd mainly be doing solo world content and maybe some light group content. Nothing very intense.

I've been told that Magicka Sorcerer or Magicka Templar is probably my best bet for a mostly stationary class that can absorb damage or heal through it and not have to dodge much. Would you guys agree? Is there a race that really isn't a good choice for either of these builds? I'm not a min maxer, so is there any way to really screw up the race/class combo for casual play?

Thanks!

The good news is that, if you only plan on doing mostly overworld and casual group content, then your build choices are quite diverse. As a fan of both form and function, my advice in this situation will always be to pick the class and race that looks coolest to you, and pick the skills that enable you to play how you want. If that means being a magicka-based Nord Sorcerer with a greatsword, I say go for it (And that's probably close to as bad as you can min-max honestly).

As far as Mag Sorc and Mag Templar, these likely are the best "turret" style classes, as their damage shields (Sorc) and healing (Templar) allow them to quite easily both tank and deal damage, but again, these are just maybe the "best" options for that. You can just as easily roll a Dragonknight and use Cinder Storm + Igneous Shield + Magma Armor, which honestly would probably allow you to infinitely sustain against most normal content without moving (One-shots aside, of course, but they're rare outside of Vet). Add Obsidian Shard to the mix and you can also deal damage AND have a burst heal AND stay at range. This would of course leave your DPS rather low, but you don't need much to clear even group dungeons on normal, and you can play with your other 8 skill slots however you wish. You also have an almost overwhelming number of sets - even just in the base game - to help accentuate your build or fill in any major gaps.

Short version: Just pick what fits your style and let your build develop naturally as you play. Quite literally anything will get you through the story content, and it'll be more fun than copying someone else.

A high elf templar, a set of light of Cyrodiil bonus, 1 bar: puncturing sweep, inner light, channeled focus, solar barrage, breath of life.

That will be a good start for something that doesn't need much aiming, moving and rather tanky.

Mag nightblade healer. Come join my guild if you don’t have one I’ll make you seducer armor, new moon acolyte, and for head and shoulders two pieces of torigs pact in training trait to help you level up.

    Would dark elf work??

Definitely recommend Magicka Templar (either Breton or High Elf) using a Lightning Destro Staff. The amount of healing during combat you receive from using Puncturing Sweep morph of puncturing strike, means you do not have an extra button to need to push for healing ( in most cases) . Your health will stay high, and as a bonus, the attack itself is AoE. You can handle Delve bosses easily. Dungeons would be another matter as their bosses have millions of xp, so you may be able to do some public dungeons and not others.

It would, though high elf is more ideal since it gives extra 5% dmg reduction while channeling puncturing sweep adding to the 15% from light of Cyrodiil bonus. Simple to stand in your channeled focus and sweep away being all tanky and healing while you attack.

I don't know if this may help or not, but I rebinded my abilities keys to be Q, R, F, C, V (and B for ult). That way, for me, it's much easier to use abilities while moving; everything is closer on the keyboard.
