The first guy was obviously not a griefer, but there for the PvP. I don't think he was confused, he just decided that you have no intention of fighting, so he left. There are many people that do that.

Yeah, he absolutely wasn't "confused", he was waiting to see if you would fight back.
I like how this experience of a PvPer choosing not to kill someone who was obviously there for PvE questing still gets classed as griefing. Certainly explains why in all these threads about PvEers in PvP everyone is always like "No PvPers EVER leave PvEers alone when they're questing!" if they can't recognise when it happens and think it's griefing instead. A cc opener is just another way of saying hello.
Sure. Sometimes it's "hello would you like to fight" and sometimes it's "hello you're dead."

I am spending a lot of my IC time waiting in the arena waiting for potential fights for the achievement (usually a mini zerg of 3-5 comes, attacks me right away, I manage to find a squish target, kill it, die). But sometimes a lone player goes in. Starts doing the arena objective, ignoring me. How am I supposed to kill them? so I end up doing the objective with them. nuking them behind their back would be mean
I fled from a DC zerg into an alleyway only to get ganked by a bomber.
I survived, managed to kill him, and laughed over his corpse.
He blocked me before I could thank him for the 1k telvar he dropped.

I accidentally jumped someone in the sewers once (outside the event) because I came around a corner and they were right there and I laid into them only to realise way too late it was just a sub-50 quester so hardly any hits still just absolutely melted themI felt really mean, I know exactly what you're talking about.
There shouldn't be this many moral dilemmas in PvP! And yet...

There are a lot of people who can't tell the difference between PVP and "griefing". They expect malice and that's what they'll see whether it's there or not.

That's likely due to the sheer amount of griefers, so when you come across someone who is there for the fun of pvp and not just to be an utter jerk *** to everyone, it can be disconcerting.
