I find AvA more stressful than PvP

To me, AvA in Cyrodiil is more stressful than PvP in Cyrodiil and the Imperial City.

I'm not talking about just doing scouting missions and capturing resources, because those are essentially one-off missions, by which I mean you do the mission, turn it in, grab another mission, do it, turn it in, etc. And if you get killed before you complete the mission, you can either keep going back until you do complete the mission, or just put it aside and come back to it later when the map has changed.

On the other hand, if you try to get into AvA, you need to coordinate with your fellow alliance members-- assuming there are any in Cyrodiil in whatever campaign you're playing, and that whoever's in Cyrodiil is actually interested in doing AvA as opposed to just questing or doing one-off missions. And the stakes are more urgent. If one of the other alliances is trying to capture your scrolls, or has succeeded in capturing a scroll and is running it across Cyrodiil, you don't get another chance at a do-over if you get killed, the way you basically do if you get killed before completing a scouting mission or a mission to capture a resource. That means you care more about the outcome of each fight, and consequently it's easier to get upset at your fellow alliance members-- for not being there when you need them, or being there but not being as effective as you think they should be (and yes, I've been "that guy" many, many, many times, so I'm not throwing stones at anyone else because I know there will be a lot more being thrown back at me; I'm just making an observation about how intense everyone's feelings can get). If you fail, it matters more than if you temporarily fail at a one-off mission, or at a city quest, etc.

I can't decide if I want to get more deeply into AvA, or just run as far away from it as I can and just stick to those one-off missions.

I just want them to revert the healing changes quickly, because it really sucks running around typing "healer LFG" in chat with nobody responding, and rolling up to massive sieges and barely being able to provide any actual assistance as people die around me. I wish I could keep you alive, but all I can do is drop permafrost on the back flag and hope the AOE helps.
PC NA, CP2500+. Character creation is the true endgame.

The fact that it matters in the bigger picture if you win or lose, which objective you capture or prevent the opposition from capturing is why I love Cyrodiil. I'm generally not that fond of pvp in general because killing other people for the sake of doing it is my idea of boring. It's why I also hate deathmatches in BG and I'm disinterested in IC. I want there to be a reason I guess you could call it, and I prefer strategy and coordinated tactics over random running around killing other players. So I'm glad Cyrodiil works the way it does.

Yes, having to strategize for larger objectives than just the short-term objectives of one-off missions definitely makes it more interesting as well as more intense.

And while AvA warfare clearly involves some PvP-- unless the opposing factions have all logged off for the day, in which case it's more like glorified PvE; and it always involves some PvE anyway, since you must deal with the NPCs alongside the enemy players-- PvP fights by themselves (in the Imperial City districts or sewers, or even in Cyrodiil outside of an AvA fight) have less urgency to me because the stakes or so much smaller.

Also, you can always just revive and try again to complete a one-off mission or city quest, and getting killed actually gives you a faster trip back to base to turn in your mission if you'd managed to complete it before getting killed, so why worry whether or not you win the fight?

The only comparable situation during AvA is if you're helping to defend a keep, because if you get killed but the enemy hasn't flipped the keep yet you can usually revive inside the keep and rush right back out to continue the fight-- and in my case, get killed again, and again, and again. :)

Anyway, I find it fairly easy to maintain an upbeat attitude and (relatively) calm composure during PvP, since in most cases I don't care very much whether I win or lose the fight. But when I'm doing AvA beyond the one-off missions, I get more worked up and frustrated.

The problem is getting "intense feelings" about a video game

I will never understand why would anyone log into Cyrodiil just so they can get upset about their alliance losing a campaign that grants 20k gold???

    :D

    Relax

    Just enjoy the pvp :relieved:

Ava can be great fun and I recommend it if you like pvp.

An extended siege over a hotly contested keep not only gants massive AP to the winner it's just an impressive spectacle to behold: Lines of giant siege engines arrayed against each other raining fire over large distances and hordes of players maneuvering around each other trying to find weak spots in each other's boarders.

And the moment one group finally decided to go for it and rush the doorway that's hot with every aoe the other side can muster is a make or break moment of thrill. It can be really fun if you've got a good commander running your group.

This is why the Cyrodiil chat should be filled with “blue zerg Chalman” messages instead of players blah blah blah.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the mom jokes. But we need more people giving quick intel in general.

Agreed, although for my faction its the warnings of the red zerg leaving Chalman keep...

Cyrodiil zone chat... Now there's a topic for discussion! Any zone's chat can be... interesting... but Cyrodiil zone chat has its own special character. The humor. The anger. The insults. The accusations. The... verbal warfare?

I rarely even have it turned on, nothing good happens in Cyro zone chat... especially on Blackreach, where it is someone from an opposing faction trying to lead you astray or get you worked up half the time.
