@Syldras I went and talked to him in Morkul Stronghold and in Anvil. First of all, no, he's not a rum baba. Secondly yes, he does speak noticeably slower than most of the characters, but not unnaturally so. It's just the Vestige who is constantly in a hurry to steal and murder explore and fight, I guess.
And that concludes our research on sweetrolls of Tamriel. 1 -

✭✭✭✭Among relatively major characters, my top choices would be Gabriele and Kireth. They're resourceful, caring, loyal, agreeable and smart.
Runners-up include Naryu (questionable on the caring/loyal side), Velsa (a bit too much of an "I don't want to be here" vibe), Gwendis (the vampire stuff is a bit creepy), Quen (a bit annoyingly wimpy), Nervyna Selos (doesn't seem like much of an adventurer), Varuni Avrel (ditto, and also made less of an impression on me than the previously mentioned ones did) and several Redguard females (Nuzhimeh has me burnt out).
Lady Laurent would be near the bottom of my list, in the same tier as Nuzhimeh (she just isn't an assistant), Stuga, and the Khajit who announces the sentence on Finedrin.0 -

✭✭✭✭Going in a different direction, some of the more genial male orcs could be good companions. Skordo is an obvious example, but the first one I thought of was actually the Stros M'Kai banker. He seems like the perfect bodyguard.
Similarly, King Kurog's shield wives were wasted on Kurog. 2 -
