What could Zenimax do to better accommodate the Role-Player community?

This one thinks a well known location, that was popular among its community, could be a place for casual mingling and events. Of course, the hills of Tamriel are vast and a traveller only needs its paws to find such opportunistic sands to tread upon.

This is why I thought adding Lore events/holidays in their appropriate areas of Tamriel would be a great thing for RPers.
RPers could travel there to mingle specifically with other people who are seeking the same thing. Would be great to have an area we could all congregate to where most people have the intention of RPing when they go

-Add RP filter to Group Finder <3 With language filter if possible. And some tiny extra text bar for activity description.

-And also, some sorta 'Radiant Story AI' from Skyrim/Fallout 4/Fallou76 would fit ESO so darn well. System that would track player's proress in the zone and spawn randomized quests at them. Like, you pick a quest say on some message board in Gnisis. It sends you to some delve, dwemer ruins or something. You come, kill, pick an item in some chest and grab your reward from some inn-keeper, or banker, or Mages Guild adept.
Such system would allow for quick and easy RP event for people who don't like any preparations or GM nonsense. Game would be our GM. I think that's what RPG 'inventors' from 80-s meant?

I would also like a much easier way to communicate with other players. Like a special interaction (similar to duel, offer to trade, etc.) that opens up a chat menu.

It zooms in on you and the other players just bit (especially if you are both sitting) then there's a window with emotes you can quickslot (a lot more than on your wheel), an easier way to just scrolls through only your conversation (i.e. without guild or zone chat). [edit to add:] And when you speak, your character would actually move their mouth, and nod their head a bit, instead of the current blank stare with text floating above their head.

I would also still like to see some of the table games we find throughout tamriel to be interact-able. Then we can play against NPCs, and even other players. Then we can purchase these games for ourselves (already purchasable, they're jsut for looks though) and place them in our homes so we can play with our friends/guildies.

I think the most important things that can be done to help the RP community is first to have an RP server.

This would, in my mind, be an option you could choose when you logged in, and you would have an option in the character selection screen maybe as to whether you want to join a regular PvE server or an RP server (no I have no idea how this would work in practice, I admit I'm not all that knowledgeable in the tech side of things) and then in the RP server you would be able to literally find RPers anywhere and everywhere without questers or whatever else running around disrupting RP.

The big thing with that though would have to be given an option as to switch servers again if you wanted to do PvE, as to not interrupt RP on an RP server.

    Food for thought, maybe?

Once upon a time the ESO Leads mentioned that "roleplayers would be able to set preferences when logging into the megaserver that would group them with other roleplayers." So I am wondering if this still could be implemented. I think there is still phasing whenever we log in?

    Add a difficult-overworld mode.

In the single-player TES games, I can RP just fine without a guild, communication tools, or events. That stuff is fine I guess, but it’s not necessary for a satisfying RP experience in Tamriel.

But when Evil World-Threatening Quest Boss XVIII can’t even finish his evil voice lines because my no-CP, basic-gear character kills him with a couple of skill casts, it’s pretty immersion-breaking. In Skyrim I can fix this problem by just turning up the difficulty or installing a combat mod. In ESO, the only option is to...leave solo RP content entirely and join a trial group or run vMA again. Hardly the same!

Please, please, please, make temporary camp fires a thing. It would be so awesome to fish a while, then start a small fire to cook the fish. Or find some game and cook them on the spot.

Don't make it like LOTRO where the fire disappears in 3 minutes, let it stay until put our or the player leaves. I'd love to relax by the fire now and again.

    Thanks.

I forget where I saw it, but someone suggested a mythic item that reduces your stats dramatically, therefore simulating a hard mode in overland, or whatever content you wish to be "hard-mode." This would be an interesting way to provide that more challenging experience. However, I would prefer more quest bosses have more interesting mechanics, as opposed to bosses having more health, and you doing less damage.

I would also like a dedicated UI setting called "Immersion Mode/Blind Mode" or something to that effect. We need an easier way to remove all the UI, without having to manually hide all the options 1 by 1, and having to remember which ones you turned off and what sub-menu they were in when you want to bring them back. Another way to make the game harder is to remove all UI, and AOE glow. I actually prefer playing that way, and you get to appreciate the animations and graphics more. You have to be extra mindful of your resources since you can't see how much you have, and really learn what the actual enemy skills look like, instead of just avoiding red.

I have seen the debuff argument in various threads and I an fundamentally against it for a couple reasons i listed out in another thread.
Stats are only part of the difficulty. In order for bosses to be truly challenging and/or engaging they need to have more varied and interesting mechanics like we see in dungeons and trials.

A de-buff boils down to putting in unto the player to make the game harder when it is the game that should be making the content harder for the player.
The players should not have to Nerf themselves in order to make overland & story more challenging and/or enjoyable.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely agree. But the chances of them doing a rework when we can't get other QOL changes.... I just see this as being an easy compromise.

Mechanics should definitely be more inventive and interesting, but self nerfing would at least solve the melt-bosses-in-seconds issue, essentially skipping all the mechanics you otherwise would have experienced.

the problem being is that a "self-nerf" would just make the bosses tedious, not challenging or fun. It would actually highlight the problem and make it worse.

    That's why I don't think it's a good compromise.

For story bosses specifically they would have to create an optional separate instance with different and challenging mechanics.
Kaalgontiid isn't fun because his fight is designed for new and inexperienced players, not because of his health. Trust me, I was self nerfed in that fight and I found it agonizing

But this is detracting the thread on roleplaying - if you'd like I have a thread from a while ago about difficulty. It could use some refinement but it's solid enough.

I've been playing TESV: Skyrim a good bit again recently, and I downloaded the mod Skyrim Jobs and it got me thinking... It would be nice if we had little jobs we could do off on the side in ESO like this.

If, for example, we could pop down to a lumber mill or somewhere there's a wood chopping area and chop wood for some small rewards or something, like an extra little repeatable quest you could do over and over.

Other ideas could maybe be: serve patrons at a tavern/mining/farming/giving crafted meals to the poor/spreading religious messages around town

It would be nice to have little things like this we could go around and do when we're at a point in the game where we've basically exhausted most of the content on one character, like I am, I'm just waiting for November for Markarth to release now. Sure I could create a new char, but I don't really want to, I really like my current one.

I am not sure an rp server would fit ESO given the model of Megaservers but allowing for larger group instances or increasing the number of people that can fit in one house at a time. In the rp guild I am in currently, we have a couple events every week where we regularly have 40+ people in attendance, it can be a challenging at times because of the sheer size of our groups and the limits to instances in eso.

Adding in a /roll feature where the game can roll a dice for you would be good too as most of the larger/older RP communities have adopted in house dice rolling combat systems and one of the biggest pain points is the fact that we need to rely on discord for rolling. This can really slow down events as whomever DMs them has to tab out of the game to check the results.

Why can't people just set a flag on their account to put them into an "RP" shard of the megaserver. The megaserver might be one server, but it still places people in different shards/layers/instances. We do not all take place in the same space as some folks think.

If its too expensive to create an RP server, or they are afraid there would not be enough people to justify the cost, then just create an RP flagged instance (with enforced naming conventions) and see how that works.

I think there's a lot this game has that a lot of games don't have that help with RP. A kickass housing system, being able to walk, sheathe weapons, sit... simple things. A lot of very simple things. I think game mechanically, there's nothing they need to do too much of (except some key personalities need to be available!)

.... that said, UI wise it would be nice if we could have a TRP3 style thing.

There are a few things I'd like to see worked into the game.

My healer encounters a badly wounded NPC. It would be nice if the game / dialogue actually supported her healing the NPC (since that is what she is all about) instead of fetching a healer or an antidote. Once healed, the NPC often needs escort to somewhere. My healer would like to offer the (now healed by her) NPC to join her on the back of her precious mare so the NPC doesn't have to walk behind my healer riding. I can imagine both these changes - that seem simple enough - could be rather challenging to implement but, hey, it doesn't hurt to ask and it is relevant to the topic.

TLDR: Support healers actually healing NPCs. Let an accompanying NPC ride with you on the back of your mount.

I attended an RP session yesterday - I've only ever RPd once before and I'd like to get into it.

My partner mentioned how emotes work on WoW that for instance you can click something in the distance, type emote "point" and you will point to it. That sounds cool.
I also wish our characters would emote when we send messages.
I was typing sentences out to the other RPers yesterday and was trying to find emotes to go with what I said. It broke up the flow as I'd said the sentence then a while later emoted. I do have Lovely EMotes to help me find relevant emotes faster and easier
Would be great if it would at least make our characters nod, or wave a hand like the NPCs do when we're in conversation with them. Would be amazing if it could pick up some keywords to trigger more context specific emotes - like "thank you" could trigger the thanks emote, or "hi"/"hello" could trigger the wave/hail emote
