Ran over a bright green book on the ground a couple times while doing dailies at one of the Cyrodil hubs. Finally stopped to pick it up. oh, it's a gold recipe :dizzy:
    /squee!

Took my stealthy, speedy farm/thief kitty through IC sewers to get some easy skyshards. Found an enemy player that looked to be making space in the bags to loot a chest. /sneaked up /picked and looted chest /sneaked off. /watched player run in little circles

I want to unlock caltrops on an alt. I have zero combat passives with skill points because I have gear crafting levels maxed. Cyrodiil has been find as I'm just doing town quests. This alt is AD, and I've always been able to find quiets towns for dailies. Sunday I even did 9 of 10 in Chorrol before it flipped. Monday, I had a left over scroll daily that happened while I was doing town dailies so I just handed that in and called it a day.

In IC, I just bank all my telvar. I had the same guy kill me 3 times early. He probably got like 50 stones total. After the 3rd time, I released and ended up in another district where that AD had well under control and got my daily.

When I use my main, a tank, I can usually defend long enough to frustrate attackers. I can't really kill any competent PvP players.

That being said, I am all for people killing me in a PvP zone. That is the point of the zone.

Yesterday I finally got all of Cyrodiil skyshards. I got most of them ages ago but I didn't know that the 4 from enemy territory, behind the gates, are obtainable until few days ago. I helped in my potato way to push some keeps on a Pact dominated map and finally got them all.

Another story from yesterday. On my way from a scouting mission deep in AD territory I came upon an active dolmen. I didn't complete any dolmens in Cyro up until that point so I thought that it was my time to shine. Unfortunately there was a sole AD player doing a dolmen. As we established I'm a potato so I didn't want to spook the player and get killed, or otherwise kill them myself if they also were a potato. So I started sneakily picking off the enemies on the other side of the central column and activating pinions without them noticing. We completed the dolmen and I'm fairly certain AD guy didn't notice I was there.

I also ventured into IC today. I usually manage to sneak through no problem but with the higher concentration of players I got killed 3 times today, and barely escaped my encounter the fourth time. I think that's where most frustration in pvp is coming. If it was only skill gap it would be easier to swallow getting killed, but some players I can kill no problem and then there are some I can barely even scratch, but they can melt me in like a second and I really don't know how they do it. There's just no learning curve. Frustrating stuff, am I right? Luckily I filled up on my dailies and I don't have to go to IC for another week.
Except for farming bosses I guess. =)

I ran from a huge zerg in IC, rounded a corner into an alley and got ganked by a NB. I used the skills "mash every button" and "panic frantically" and I somehow killed him.

The salt I got in return made me wonder if he was actually a "hardcore" or if he was just a really angry potato.
Shortly after the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, a Nord woman was given a tour of the Tribunal Temple. When later asked about the experience, she seemed upset. Suffice to say, the Dunmer were not pleased to hear this, and thus they inquired further.
"Well," the Nord frowned, "the priests were very angry and unwelcoming. They kept shouting things at me like "you can't drink that mead in here!" and "somebody stop her, she's running naked!" and "we can't catch her; she's covered in grease!""

I am truly amazed at how impervious some players are to damage! It’s not CP (or not always) either as I encounter these in BGs as well. I can attack from stealth with an ult and that’s shrugged off and then I’m dead in two hits! :dizzy:

I encountered true ball groups for the first time this event — a mass of players moving together, so synchronized, bringing massive aoe and proximity damage with them! It’s like a force of nature — in its path you are dead dead but you can stand outside and watch, untouched. They do not care, for you aren’t capping the flag from that vantage point!

On the other end of the spectrum, I was caught off guard by a solo bomber who had remained hidden and then wiped most of the group while we were repairing the door! At first I was stunned that someone had ported through the remaining gap in the door, as I thought! It didn’t make a difference in the cap and they died instantly too, but they must have a truly impressive kill count!

It really does bring things into perspective does it not? This is also why immovable potions and mistform is so nice in PVP because it makes it possible to get out of the way of ball groups! I've learned they charge for your faction's "center of mass" and not the individual people themselves until it's only really the individuals off to the side that are left.

As for the bombers they use sets like Vicious Death paired with abilities like Proximity Detonation, Blood Frenzy, and powerful AoE ultimates!

Indeed! Some of the ball groups I encountered were in a keep, where they would pour down the stairs, sweep past the flags, then swirl around outside the inner door where anyone might set up siege, then back in, inexorable as the tide!

I was impressed by that bomber and am working on giving it a try myself, just for fun, even though I don’t see it being my usual playstyle. :)

I decided. for the first time ever, to take a look at doing scouting missions.

The mission was to scout Glademist farm. I studied the map for 10 minutes. Its not listed. There's a Glademist keep, but no structures anywhere near it that might suggest a farm.

google said it was NW of Chorrel. My mouse overs found various farms and other places of interest, but no Glademist farm.

So I dropped the quest and left Cyro to go do something that was actually fun.

Each keep has three resources: a mine, lumber and farm. You should be able to see them on the map. The farm looks like a stalk of wheat, lumber is logs and mine is a pick axe and shovel if my memory serves correct. There will also by an outpost building by every resource.

So I discovered a new blind spot for PvDoor groups. If you set up a cold fire treb outside the wall a little ways off to the side, you can bombard the ram for a lot longer than you'd think it would take them to notice. In one case a single player came off the ram and ran at me only to die from a fire tick just as they reached me. I'm going to work on it a little more, see if I can blend into their siege line.

I had an incident today that made me laugh out loud. I was turning in a quest in Bruma and blue had taken most of the resources. By the time I got to the red keep, it was under attack (and I had to get back to work) so no easy port home for me. I go strolling out the front door which you could see daylight through - pretty obviously under attack even for a pver like me. All of the blue attacked me while I sat there laughing since I bought sky shards so this character could have 1 bar of skills and she's wearing low 40s nonset gear. I got my quick port out, but it was so much overkill.

Yeah, he just got lucky. Even as a bloodthirsty PVPer myself there are times when it’s better not to attack. 1 on 1 at a Cyrodiil Doleman is near the top of the list.

Speaking only for myself sometimes when I’m riding solo and don’t think I can take the guy (or have better things I’m on the way to do) I’ll ride up to them at full speed on rapid maneuvers simply just to spook them into getting off their mount.

Soloing/duoing resources seems a little harder than it used to be, but it's still the case that a competent PvEer with a PvEish build can do it ... unless, of course, player characters from another alliance show up. So, plenty of successes in that area.

The three hardest things IMO about soloing resources are the bubbles, the multiple healers, and the mage on the platform hanging out from the second story of the tower. So my prefered technique is to ride straight into the tower (and out of LOS of the flag), ideally pulling one guard plus one mender with me. Then I kill them, go up the stairs (the short time in LOS of the flag is unimportant), kill the mage, take a couple of breaths, and walk back down and outside and deal with the rest of the defenders, menders first.

(Note: "LOS of the flag" is shorthand for "line of sight of the defenders gathered stationed around the flag".)

It's too bad making the quest active in your journal doesn't put a big white quest marker on your map and your compass.

Seriously, though, unless you're DC, you probably didn't want to go all the way to Glade.

I have two comments about this.

@barney2525: One thing I discovered way back when I first went to Cyrodiil is that the default map filters were set to hide the resources, which made it very difficult for me to locate the resources I was supposed to scout. As I recall, a lot of other things of interest were also hidden, such as dolmens and delves, which drove me crazy. Then I realized that all I had to do was go to the map filters and turn everything on. I heartily recommend that you go the filters on your map of Cyrodiil to see how they're set, because that's probably one big reason why you couldn't find Glademist Farm-- but see below for more.

@MasterSpatula: I don't know if you do missions and quests where you don't already know where the target location is, but you might want to verify for yourself what I'm about to say, because it might help you be a little more sympathetic about this. What I've noticed is that if I accept a mission and then immediately go to the Transitus Shrine and "use" it, the map it shows does not display the quest marker. But if you close that map, open your normal map, and right-click out of the zoomed-in display of the gate area to see the entire map of Cyrodiil, you can see the quest marker. And if you then "use" the Transitus Shrine again, it will finally display the quest marker on its map. But for some annoying reason, going to the Transitus Shrine and using it without looking at the regular map first will result in the quest marker being missing from the map.

No, I understood that you weren't being entirely serious, and "be a little more sympathetic" might have come across more strongly than I'd intended, so I apologize for that. But I wanted to point out the quirk about the Transitus Shrine's map in case you weren't aware of it-- although I was really more interested in letting @barney2525 know about it.

It has driven me crazy more than once during this event, because I couldn't remember the exact location of Lipsand Tarn or the drop-off where you need to trigger the ambush (two of the dailies from Chorrol and Weynon Priory). I would run over to the Transitus Shrine to see which keep to port to for closest access, yet the quest markers would be missing. Or I would go grab a scouting mission or resource mission and have the same problem-- the Transitus Shrine's map wouldn't show the quest markers. So I would exit out of the Transitus Shrine's map, pull up the regular map to see where the quest marker was, go back to the Transitus Shrine-- and the quest markers would be there.

I don't know why it happens that way-- maybe it's something to do with your character's map filter settings not getting loaded until you open up the regular map, or maybe it's something else-- but whatever it is, it can be confusing and annoying.

Maybe I should add that this is usually right after I've queued into Cyrodiil. My standard routine during this event is to bounce back and forth between the Imperial City and Cyrodiil, alternating between doing an Imperial City district quest, then doing a group of quests in Cyrodiil (a scouting mission, a resource capture, a Chorrol quest, and a Weynon Priory quest). By the time I've gone back and forth six times, I've completed all of the district quests as well as all of the Chorrol and Weynon Priory quests. So I don't know whether the Transitus Shrine's map would show the quest icons as expected if I were to just stay in Cyrodiil-- that is, whether my filter settings would stay loaded (assuming that's what the problem is) once I've pulled up my regular map of Cyrodiil.

I put this in another thread but it might be of use to any Midyear Mayhem potatoes with an eye on getting the 4 skyshards behind each of the opposing alliance's gates.

MYM is probably the best time to get them, as you can bounce from campaign to campaign looking to see if the gates are open (you can tell if a gate is open if the keep closest and the next one out is taken by a different alliance) and there's way more likely to be scroll raiding happening.

If you are going for them and you've never done it before (or for other first timers), my suggestions are as follows:

    - check out the maps of where the skyshards are specifically online before you go in there and drop a marker
    - if you're not on a nightblade, craft some invisibility pots, because even when the gates are open there's still guards unless you follow a zerg through.
    - if you are on a nightblade, unlock shadowy cloak and make sure you have enough mag to keep it up
    - if you don't want to go the invisibility way, getting in as close as you can and hitting rapids (if you have them unlocked) or having any other speed boost is a bonus
    - have a spam heal if you can
    - once you get through the gate and out of aggro with the gate guards, crouch ASAP to get into stealth from them AND any players

You don't have to be of the Alliance who opened the gates either, they're open for EVERYONE.

I also recommend once you get through the gate heading left or right at a right angle the moment you get through the gate and especially once you can get into stealth safely, because that means any unfriendly players coming to the gate won't see you once you're crouched because you're effectly invisible unless they're close to you.

Take a breather to let the adrenaline settle, then go get your skyshard. Stay off roads, stay in the wilderness. People generally ride on the road or in a direct line between their home base and the gate so avoid that. You don't have to stay in stealth but you can if it makes you more comfortable.

Get the skyshard and let the good in.

Rinse and repeat three more times. ;)

If anyone else has any more suggestions, or if anyone has any questions, go for it.

Having now visited Cyrodiil on my crafter in her speed gear, who specifically contracted vampirism in order to go there and be able to sneak at full speed...where are all the nodes? I've come across a few runestones but I ran all over the map and there's hardly anything else. I hoped with the double drops I might be able to do some anxiety-inducing sneak-gathering, but it looks like I'm better off running around literally any other zone. Is this normal?

Actually, Cyrodiil in general looks incredibly empty, landscape wise. I never really stopped to notice it before as on the rare occasions I go there I'm mostly zooming between keeps trying to get those AP ticks, but there are huge stretches of empty fields with the occasional tree. Talos had it wrong, it would have been cooler to fight in a jungle.

Fail: was running a scroll back and managed to kill myself jumping down a cliff 🤣 we did get the scroll back on another players back.

Fun: was running a different scroll back when we chance upon a dolmen, now our guild leader loves a dolmen so naturally we stop off to do it. One of the guild drops a camp on the dolmen and gets the mickey taken, we finish dolmen, most rush to get chest, and yes, we got bombed. Turns out we needed that camp after all 🤣 (happily I'd hung back from the rush so didn't die keeping the scroll safe)

If there's flags, take the flags and don't let others take them. If there's a ball, take the ball and don't let others take it. If deathmatch, kill anything that moves and don't die. Some teams ignore the objectives and treat every mode as a deathmatch, which is fun, but doesn't help you win, and for rewards you want to try to at come at least second.
