I see a lot of people wanting something done a little more with crafting, especially with the traits, and the hording of gear until they can research it being a drain on their bank/alts.
I had the idea, that traits could operate a little different, maybe more efficient, and in phases. Instead of waiting to research an item to learn that trait, why not make it a 2 phase approach?
1st phase - I have an item with a trait on it - I deconstruct the item, and if I receive the associated trait gemstone, I learn phase 1 for the trait, meaning it is now researchable for me.
Phase 2 - Once a trait is researchable, i.e. you learned it through deconstruction, and received the associated gem, then you are able to research it as normal without having said piece of gear. So research is unchanged, and you still have to wait on a timer while you research each trait.
This clears a lot of bank space for those of us holding onto equipment to research later on. It also makes it a little harder to research traits - You may deconstruct 1 item, and get the associated gem and ability to research said item, or you may have to deconstruct 10. It depends on how lucky you are. And finally, it still takes that same amount of actual research time for each individual trait, but we don't need to carry around the extra gear anymore...
Anyways, I figure most of the changes for something like this should be fairly minor, as you're not creating a whole new system, just storing really a player flag that notes that I have a trait available for research because I deconstructed and found the applicable trait.
Just an idea I thought I would throw out there...
