What kind of companion would you want?

I don't personally think the companion system is something I'll engage with, but I have some ideas about what would help me ease into it. Maybe you do, too.

For me: I don't want a humanoid NPC following me around. That is something that I am not interested in at all. But, I would warm up to this idea if the companion could be some sort of sentient creature type.

Some ideas:
- A hopeful squire from the Blackfeather Court with ambitions of being a knight. The Duke of Crows has decided to award you your own loyal vassal. He can use melee attacks and be fitted for DPS or tanking. Unerringly loyal to you, but very plucky and sassy. Perhaps he wears something very silly on his head as a helmet.
- An Alfiq mage, similar to Sereyne. Perhaps you rescue her from an embarrassing situation (Sereyne speaks of a friend who has a tendency to get carried off in sacks.). Can be fitted as a healer or DPS. Sweet as pie, dulcet little kitty voice, but no fool or pushover.
- A dire wolf. It would be better if this one didn't speak. You could suppose if you must that this is the transformed spirit of some Bosmer, or such like, but just a loyal pupper would be fine for me. I see this being a utility companion, applying taunts, snares, and other kinds of CC. Perhaps the pup's eyes begin to glow and the fur color changes as it levels up.
- A seeker, sent to you by the Daedric prince Hermeaus Mora. Doesn't have intelligible dialogue but chortles and speaks in tongues. Can be fitted to do anything because that thing does whatever it wants.

Well, the first we get to choose is 1. a noble man and 2. a female dunmer thief with a "stab you in the back" mentality. The latter sounds to me like Jenessa in Skyrim, I can get along with this kind of character.

Animal Companions sound really cool. Let people use their mounts as the npc lol horse killing a boss in combat or a guar is too priceless. Failing that bring on the wafu's and husbando's. I personally like Dark Elves and Nords.

I'd like them to make the existing senche-raht mounts into a combination mount/companion. I never got any of them because the fact that they're people who have supposedly chosen to accompany you but you treat them like any other mount seems weird to me. But if you could ride them and then get off and fight alongside them, talk to them, do quests together etc. that would be much more fitting to the descriptions they're given, less weird to me and I think much more interesting than just having them as mounts.

Otherwise I just hope they're not too annoying.

I would like a companion option from each of the guilds and factions. I think that would be awesome.
A companion from the mages guild or fighters guild would be so legit.

Ideally an existing NPC, more for the RP, less for the combat aid, because it'd be cool to adventure alongside Naryu, Divayth Fyr etc., and have new dialogues and voice acting for these characters, but it probably wouldn't make sense from the story perspective so much, so I get why they are going with the direction of new NPCs. In that case I think I'd like a daedra companion, so that they have a biting and funny commentary about mortals but still help out anyway

I want to eventually see all of the characters that routinely show up in quests as companions. Such as Naryu, Raz, Kireth and Raynor, Gwendis, etc.

One that keeps a good distance so I don't end up in a conversation every time I try to pick a flower. Also they need to be really tall so they can loot urns I can't reach. Or really strong so they can boost me up to reach those same urns.

And they need a sharp eye for Columbine. Their dialog would mostly consist of "hey, isn't that a Columbine over there?" unless I ask them a question.

I usually choose a companion with a polite to earnest or sometimes sarcastic personality (would have loved to keep the auger of the obscure) if there is one. In Skyrim my favorite followers were Erandur, Erik the Slayer and Marcurio. Sometimes interpretations can vary, though. Once I chose "independent" for an npc companion trait, imagining something in the vein of Marcurio....a little pretentious but enthusiastic and hopefully funny....and ended up with a supremely whiny one whose only conversation consisted of complaints about whatever we were doing. I guess that is one way "independent" could go, LOL .

Don't understand why anyone would want a "companion" for overland content that is so silly easy it's ridiculous. Even a new character at level 1 with no cp has an easy time doing any sort of overland solo play..

I want Fennorian. Though I'm guessing that won't be possible because of his role in the Greymoor main quest line. In which case I will happily accept him as a houseguest instead.
Other than that, I don't have any real wants as far as a companion is concerned, other than a good-looking male human or elf who can make me forget Fennorian.

Edit: actually one BIG want is that these companions don't keep uttering the same inane dialogue over and over and over...

OMG Yes! As a Skyrim player I can't say it enough how off-putting it is to hear "good bye my love" over and over and over... Really? My spouse can only say that one sentence and that's it! That's why we got married???
