No new: Class, Weapon, Skill line. What does this mean for the future ESO Chapter?
Although I stick with the fact that this chapter seems underwhelming, Wheeler and his combat team defiantly saved my sanity and disappointment toward the update.

I was 100% sure that this would be the most disappointing update, due to Rich essentially giving us a rundown of the 'chapter' to come with a half-ass 'Oh and.. COMPANIONS' (btw Rich, no bashing on you, it's just the way it was laid out). THEN WHEELER chad comes along, and essentially gave us:

    - a NEW Champion system, taking away the cap while simultaneously giving us more customization to our characters which gives them a better depth, AND giving us performance by negating a lot of checks the last champion system gave us.

    - THEN big boy Wheeler gave us different armour passives. MAN these are good.. not needed, just.. just good. A negative to wearing some armour. Nice addition to be sure.

    - Then finally, he addressed healing in non-groups and straight out said no proc sets. I'm not AGAINST Proc sets, and I know that wont last forever, but their hardcore approach to the issues in PvP is refreshing, and listening to the community is really comforting, knowing if we shout enough, they'll listen.

WHAT I'm trying to get at is, RICH WHY DIDNT YOU ADD THE FACT THAT MOST OF THIS ^ WAS HAPPENING AT THE END. I went away from my PC thinking this year was literally done for, but the seeming dedication to performance and the change to CP has actually made me think.. not so bad, maybe this year will be the year the performance-purists might be mildly satisfied.

I still have little to no enthusiasm for the big chapter selling point, Companions, however everything else (cp, armor weights, servers, etc) is very exciting. This looks incredibly ambitious and I can't wait to learn the details.

Shadowlands has excessive grinding, but so has ESO. Heard about the Champion Points? Constant grinding for specific gear sets for their bonuses? Those grinds are worse than anything you have in Shadowlands right now and they’ve been a part of ESO for half a decade now.

I don't play WoW, so I don't know how grindy Shadowlands is or not, but you only grind CP if you want to.

I've never had a CP that cost me less than 400k XP (currently 1.1 million XP) and I'm at 1417 just casually playing the game.

Gear has been made a lot easier with the sticker book, and you do have several different gear options if you are not a 1% min/maxer.

Yes, Shadowlands is grindy. But you again missed my point. The expansion has 5 zones and 8 dungeons. That’s 4 zones and 8 dungeons more than the Chapter has to offer. All of that developed during a pandemic - granted, WoW hast 2 year expansions and ESO 1 year expansions, so let‘s half it - it’s still 2.5 zones and 4 dungeons in the end per year for the same price of ESO‘s Chapter. Besides that, Shadowlands offers a ton of systems - if you like them or not, if they’re grindy or not. They give you something fresh.

Oh, yes. Fresh new systems that you DUMP at the end of the expansion. Just like every new system Blizzard introduces. Garrisons? Dumped. Artifacts? Dumped. Heart of Azeroth? Dumped. Archaeology? Dumped to Hell. Fresh new content indeed.

Something you don't seem to understand about WoW grind is this: it'll turn useless as soon as the next expansion comes around. Garrisons are now useless. You can send your followers, but it's just a waste of time, since the gear is useless and the gold you used to get just doesn't exist anymore. Artifacts are now useless too. You CAN'T upgrade it anymore, there's no option, so you just get it, level yourself up, and you can just throw it into a volcano. Heart of Azeroth is the same thing. See the problem? Well, it gets worse. The gear in WoW is worth NOTHING after the end of the expansion. You'll NEVER use it again. The legendary ring you got after going to Hell and back? Useless. The legendary cape? Worthless. Every single legendary weapon you ever had? It's worth nothing but a few dozen coins.

Thank the gods ESO isn't following Blizzard's scummy systems. Thank the gods.

How big are those zones tho. "1 zone" is not an exact measurement. If the combined size of those 2.5 zones is <Elsweyr then it doesn't matter that there's more.
If only the number of zones matter than you could argue that Greymoor also had 5 zones. One overland and 4 Blackreach caverns.

What I´m really bummed about is that Magicka is still locked in just a single Weapon. I was really hoping to put away the Staves once and for all.

WoW and FFXIV are able to offer you complete expansions with half a dozen zones, dungeons etc. during COVID and lockdowns and ZOS isn’t capable of revamping a skill line or adding a new weapon? lol

I'm no game developer, so I can't be sure about the specifics, but I imagine that writers, artists, and world designers have a much easier time working from home, each on their own thing.

Balance changes take a lot more discussion and testing to be completed. And that is the bit that is difficult during a pandemic.

Besides, FFXIV delayed a lot of their 2020 content because of the pandemic. And WoW expansions are not released yearly, so a lot of the development was likely done beforehand.

ESO is still getting two more zones, four more dungeons and all that entails. And without any delays.

I played WoW from "vanilla" to Cataclysm, then later came to ESO in the beta days. ESO had some great DLCs/chapters.
But I can tell you this: when Blizz came with an expansion, it meant massive content in many ways. It wasn't yearly, but it did not have to be, the new content kept you busy for far longer than any ESO chapter does. I remember the first expansion of WoW (Burning Crusade). The starting area wasn't large, but the areas next to them kept you busy for weeks. It was addictive. A chapter in ESO keeps you busy for a week maybe and the rest is just dailies or farm. An area of a chapter in ESO is the size of two zones in WoW, something like that.

Don't get me wrong, I love ESO more than I loved WoW, I am just disappointed with the 1 year cycle routine they are doing for several years now... seems so predictible: crown crates, 2 dungeons, a chapter, then 2 dungeons, and a story conclusion DLC (which you can burn in a few days). It feels like they are in their confort zone and they are happy with how this goes. There are so many crazy posibilities in ESO, people want magic weapons, new pvp, fun combos, rewarding combat and achievements, yet they give us companions and pets, things that get old in a few days at most. Why do you need an AI follower in a MMO btw?

I am glad they are changing the servers, but it seems that it would have happened anyway because the hardware is reaching the end of its life. This sounds worse if you think about it... the game is running on 2014 hardware and they have to upgrade because they are forced to do so, not because they want to revamp the game or create new possibilities.

I wish only the best for the team, and I do hope they will deliver and hear what the community really wants.

Despite my lack of intrest in the new eso exp, i would not give high praise to WoW their new exp is just god awful.

Actually it’s not. It’s way better than the god awful BfA (last expansion). But that wasn’t my point. My point is the amount of stuff they offer you in the new expansion (5 zones, 8 dungeons, 1 raid, legendary items and more features) for the exact same price of ESO‘s new Chapter that offers you 1 zone, zero dungeons, 1 raid and a lame feature named companions - and all of that features during lockdowns & Corona, whereas ZOS - as said by others - isn’t capable of giving us one simple skill line or something like that.

Its mildly better than bfa, still extremely weak. Its shallow, the zones are uniteresting, the writting is awful, the dungeons reek of esports agenda checklisting and are mainly just partitioned off existing areas that are converted into an instance and it's just as imbalanced as usual and torghast is mind numbingly boring. Peel back the veneer and what you have is an incredibly linear and vertical experience that is intrinsically and meticulously designed to slowly control progression through soul ash acquisition, renown progress / covnant quest line, conquest cap, mythic+ drops and the vault to give the illusion of me meaningful progression.

This is coming from someone with the mythic 15 mount, and 2100 rated 3s disc priest at ilvl213 as of last week.

My sub ends in 7 days.

well considering the cp update is next update and not the chaper, and we have no proof that zos will do anything about performance since they have been publicly working on it for well over a year, and who knows how long in the times where they denied it was an issue all together. So yes friend, we are left with a chapter that only has stupid companions. No new class. No new weapon skill line. Nothing.
