Is line of sight causing lag?

I know that a lot (and I mean A LOT) of players use LOS to avoid attacks.. but I'm wondering if lag would be 10x better if those few people who did the endless stair/rock/tree/tower climb could simply no longer take advantage of the terrain as much.

I hope you're joking. How can simple movement cause lag? But let's assume it does. What would your solution be? Make Cyrodiil flat?

Having LOS calculated at the beginning of any casted ability would help a lot.. but I'm sure people would cry a lot about arrows and attacks flying through walls.

Cant deny that the "unkillable"groups in Cyro love obstacles.

Think about it.. the attackers need to be constantly targeting the offending player.. and that player only needs to worry about hitting a heal or run button with no targeting needed.

There is no calculations involved in line of sighting. True line of sighting positions a character so they they aren't attacked when they are most vulnerable so in theory this practice reduces calculations. As less attacks can even fire off to begin with....

I'm pretty sure if a char moves behind something while an ability is being channeled that ability will not fire. Less attacks is relative, if said "unkillable" player lasts several minutes running behind objects, then thats several hundred calcs, other than a few if that person can be targeted and dies.

First of all don't chase rock humpers and tower trolls, you'll die tired. But now imagine you're in a fight and someone throws a brick at you, you see it and hide behind cover but the brick flies around the corner and hits you anyway. That's what you're asking for (I mean the conditions, not the brick). ESO is a game where you have to aim at a target in order to hit it, the opponent can hide, dodge or block, let's keep it that way.

I'm not the one doing it but you cant deny people love to do it.

And ESO already lets fired projectiles follow you.. so you're wrong in that if someone "throws a brick".. I'm just saying that if they can target and start channeling, the game should left them finish unless you dodge or block.

Asking this question is akin to asking "Does this game need abilities?"
Sure, we can remove LOS to reduce lag, but we could also remove skills to reduce lag or better yet, remove combat, NPCs and the world we play in. The game would run so smoothly!
Hyperbole aside, the game has a number of core calculations that will of course take up resources, but you can't justify getting rid off because we are removing load so that these core calculations can be properly executed. They are the game we want to play lagfree. It's not that LOS causes lag, it's that something else is causing lag which makes it hard for the game to calculate LOS and stutter.
If you cannot accept that some calculations cannot be touched in the name of performance, then by that logic ESO should be reduced to a 2D platformer because that's one entire dimension less to keep track off :P

So what's the point of towers and keeps and walls... just make an empty white plain without terrain variations... right?

There's already a point to them, I wasn't saying get rid of LOS, just make things hit more often. Those guys hiding behind the wall are fine, they can't be selected.

The guy running around the wall constantly will actually get hit, instead of having 50 randoms running after him, eating up resources.
