we will see if companions can even join you in trials/dungeons, i hope that not, because that would be straight up p2w :D

😂 They said they could in stream. I watched entire thing.

Absolutely hate them and think it's a wasted slot for a chapter feature, to be quite frank.

HOWEVER. I'd absolutely love them if overland already wasn't boringly easy.

At one point they said something like you could use them pretty much everywhere apart from PvP. Read somewhere else that it's everywhere except PvP and Solo arenas

I feel like they glazed over them. Can't wait to check them out tomorrow on PTS, if that's at all possible.

Will be so disappointed if we can't bring them into our homes and interact with them there as well.

    I utterly hate the concept.

As a 'we don't need you' healer main, this is just another punch in the gut after the Pale Order Ring fiasco.

It was not needed at all in a MMO of ALL things.

Rather than ENCOURAGE people to work together more... it's adding mechanics to push towards solo and further encouraging people to walk away from support roles.

I expect to be even LESS relevant now as a healer moving forward than I am today.

    Thanks ZOS.

They also said it's still in progress as they have things not decided upon yet

I’m pretty sure the companions are a new chapter feature, so they won’t be on the PTS until next quarter.

I hate playing a pure healer in dungeons now that I've witnessed tanks and dps die when they can't be healed by me.

Makes me wonder if companions has any such negative side effects too.

They can be good if they have good stories and quest to complete also will depend of how we can level them and equip them get unique item for them etc they said that for now they role are open we dont know if they will be used in dungeons (pretty sure that if you use them you will have to do the dungeon alone for example) that the game is so easy removes a lot of they utility in the area of combat. i thing that they are tring is a good choice

If that was their big selling point for the chapter, they won't sell many chapters.

    Who needs them?

    The entire pvp community won't.

Even pve, who needs extra help for overland? Not many players.

I like it. We had those back in EQ2 when I played and they really helped for those of us that like to play the game solo. And no you couldn't suddenly go in and solo the equivalent of Vet dungeons. But in instances where you might get mobbed - say in a public dungeon -and didn't have any AOE capabilities, they could help keep you alive by healing you or if you were a mage they could tank for you and take the aggro off momentarily. YOu still had to know how to play the game and you could still die so they weren't 'god' making by any means.

This game has no content like that though.

Overland and public dungeons and even 90% of world bosses are stupidly easy, even very early on in the game.

Rich L gave an interview to Game Insider that went into initial companions:

    Quote:

For now, there are two companions who players will get to know: Bastion and Mary. "Bastion is kind of this chivalrous Knight kind of personality," Lambert says. "And he was the son of a noble there was a little bit of strife with his history that you'll learn more about while adventuring with him. He ended up becoming a servant to another noble family and is essentially being the protector of this rich sniveling idiot. The questline that you go through with him to unlock him as a companion covers one of those adventures. And then once you unlock him, you find out a little bit more about who he is and what his personal tragedy is."

Mary, on the other hand, is a Dunmer thief who Lambert describes as having a "stab you in the back" kind of personality. Lambert mentions that she has an interesting twist in her storyline, but wasn't willing to tell me more no matter how much I was intrigued to hear everything

I doubt they'll replace healers (at least not the support focussed healers that are currently popular). Or do you belive ZOS manages to code their companion AI so it can kite darkness, trigger jumps and collect spears in CR while keeping good uptimes on their group buffs?
I expect them mostly being used for grinding. Just get a healer companion, position your character at a dolmen, equip gear for a lightning HA build and tape done your left mouse button. Then enjoy getting free xp while you are afk.

I think I'm interested in learning more (before drawing any other conclusions).

The Elder Scrolls Online has always drawn fairly heavily from its RPG origins. While still an RPG-lite, the addition of something like companions adds in a critical element of proper RPGs. Obviously, that means I approve on principle, but the details are important. There's potential, but I have concerns about implementation.

i doubt you will be able to take them out when the group of 4 is full. and i swear to god, if they give orbs and drain and combat prayer to those "healer companions" watch how suddenly healers are getting kicked from groups.

    I am dreading them, tbh

As if the people who run around with their banker/merchant following them, along with their enormous flappy idiot twilight and slightly less annoying scamp/clannfear, and of course the oversized pony pets and whatnot... If all that weren't bad enough, now those folks will have another npc or two meandering around with them everywhere on top of it all.

    F'ing wonderful

Writs and generally being near a town sound like they're just going to become even more of a nightmare. I hope I'm wrong...

More importantly what skills can they have and can they have their own combat pets or sets that summon temps? XD

I can solo most things (and if not, I'm quite sure a single AI companion also won't help), so the only thing they might be interesting for me is for roleplaying purposes... Carrying them around as a personal guard, servant, apprentice or whatever.

Makes me wonder: It's only two different npcs so far (1 female Dunmer, 1 male Imperial), so will we have dozens of clones running around in town then? Or will their appearance look randomized for others? Maybe someone can check that on pts.

Kind of seems counterproductive to try to fix performance and then add companions which will greatly eat up server resources. Can’t say I’m surprised though they did the same thing last year with proc sets.

I love this idea. It's hard enough getting people to group up for world bosses and I'm not good enough to solo them so this will come in handy. It's hard to make friends in this game, nobody wants to group and play together, I feel it will make the game more fun having a companion following me around and do stuff together. Something I've always missed from this game is companions, one of my favorite features of the Elder Scrolls games.

Just because the game is so easy for you people posting, doesn't mean it is for everybody else, I see people out in the world struggling and dying all the time and a lot of the time I come to the rescue with a heal.

The people so against companions can just not use them, everybody wins! Makes me very happy and excited, I can't wait!
