The sexism in today's trailer reveal and discussion live stream was kind of jarring

I'd have a lot more respect for anyone pointing out the history of anti-Argonian racism in the TES series and how the devs perpetuated that by ignoring the Argonian in favor of non-beastfolk, if it weren't being used as a stalking horse for "three strong women is too many" handwringing.

Many woes and lamentations be upon us for video games have discovered that women are buying and playing video games and want to see characters like themselves as more than just eye candy and damsels in distress! Whatever shall we do! Oh noes!!!!!

Seriously, guys - and I assume this is mostly guys - have you listened to yourselves lately?

Its ridiculous. This isn't grade school with the "No girls allowed" sign above the clubhouse anymore.

And if you need more "strong men" in your video games, maybe consider that strong men respect women.

The irony of this post is astounding.

You loved the part where they completely ignored the argonian guy and went out of their way to put emphasis on strong women?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying those characters are bad. I'm just saying it was a bit forced to be like 'look guys, we have a trio of strong women.' meanwhile not even mentioning or at least acknowledging the assistance of the argonian, who has appeared in both the teaser and the main trailer now and looks to be friends with the wood elf.

Lol certainly feel for male perspectives in gaming and it's related media, definitely underrepresented :D

Nah, no one cares of they are "represented". I certainly don't. It's just so sad and cringey to watch developers pull out these characters, like action figures on their shelves, and metaphorically hold them up pronouncing "like what we have, it is women, and they are STROOONG. Bask in our vitrtue!"

No one cares eh? Not the OP whose first lines included that poor argonian male and complaints of sexism against men? Haha.

I'm all for a discussion on false virtue signaling especially given the makeup of the crew that did the talking during the reveal event etc etc but that is not what this thread is about.

Yeah, I'm discussing the false virtue signaling and forcing a narrative that seemingly has come to a head with this trailer/ live stream. After two expansions of 'women good/strong, men incompetent/bad' and then Pete going out of his way to completely ignore and even refer to their group as a trio of women just felt a bit jarring and worth mentioning.

I think this is something that people aren't really understanding either. It's perfectly fine to have strong female leads and characters. However when you have to point them out otherwise, that kind of tells me that these characters aren't able to stand out on their own because they're not organically written.

Really? Having three women in a trailer is too much? It's sexism? Let's see the definition of sexism: "Sexism is prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex or gender". Now you tell me: a single trailer with three women in it is sexist? Did you see any discrimination to men? Good God. People these days, I tell you. People these days.

Yeah, Pete literally ignored the argonian's existence and specifically said "Let's talk about the trio of powerful women"

To say they weren't at least forcing it a bit is very blindsighted of you

having three women in the trailer isn't too much either. It's the fact for the past two expansions we've seen nothing but weak or incompetent men with the main focus being on good/strong women. Not to mention, again, Pete going out of his way to completely ignore the argonian guy.

All of this wrapped into one leaves me with a jarring feeling.

I agree with you completely. I was just commenting on this with my guild.

For the record, I AM a woman and it leaves a pretty bad taste in my mouth to feel so obviously pandered to. Moreso because the "strong female" characters only get showcased against male characters who are dropped down to buffoon level. I want cool, strong characters in general. Their sex shouldn't be their primary attribute, which is really how it felt after they went out of their way to talk about it after the trailer drop.

I need a name for that big boi Saxhleel :(
It was so nice to see an Argonian as one of the main story NPCs in a trailer... I think it is 1st time it happened.
All previous Argonians in cinematics were background characters.

The 3 women are either returning characters or a new character that you will meet. Maybe the argonian is just an extra, unnamed and doesn’t need to be mentioned?

When someone screeches about women representation not being enough in games, I'll be sure to tell them this exactly. The door swings both ways.

And yeah, as I said, I found it a bit jarring that the argonian is apparently chopped liver and not worth acknowledging.

The point of this post was to simply raise awareness that women good men bad is a reoccurring thing in these past two chapters and this live stream doesn't exactly help things.

Stuff like this needs to be pointed out when it's forced, yeah. That goes for either side of the coin. I'd be saying the exact same thing if it were a group of men and the female character was ignored.
