New Servers Are Coming - THANK YOU!

Thank you ZOS for finally listening and paying to fix this issue! I've long been distressed that ESO runs at 100+ ping while all its major competitors (WoW, SWTOR, FFXIV. GW2) run at 25-40 ping. Australian players are even praying for the ~100 ping ratings that the rest of us deal with.

If this finally fixes the game's performance issues, I'll happily buy the new Chapter on day one, regardless of my relative lack of interest in companions, and my desire for melee magicka weapons. I skipped Greymoor at launch and waited for a deep sale due to a similar lack of interest, but will happily buy Blackwood at launch to support this move if it fixes the issue

Did they say this or are you being sarcastic? There was a lot of info and I did zone out at one point, so I could easily have missed it. But given the salt level in this forum in general, I'm never truly sure if people mean something or not.

at the beginning of the stream they said they are completely replacing the servers to improve the performance

I take this year more as a year for quality of life improvements and updates - like it has been asked

Well yeah, game performance is down to hardware. Your framerate won't change. But the big issue with ping is the delay in your actions registering with the server (100+ ping, significantly higher than other MMOs), how it ****s the bed in Cyrodiil trying to deal with so many players at once, and how ping frequently spikes during peak hours even to as high as 999+ (literally off the game's charts).

They just want to increase capacity I'm guessing, maybe to stream line the patching, but regardless, she specifically stated it will not have any effect on performance. That is literally the end of Cyro. What can they possibly do after that? Groups aren't going back to 24, cross heals can't come back, it's actually over.

Was stadia worth it?

Ahhhh, indeed

Time will tell I suppose! As I said in the OP, IF this fixes the latency issues then I'll happily buy Blackwood on day one to show support. If it doesn't lead to any change on our end, then I'm happy to wait for the usual winter sale on this year's Chapter again, like I did with Greymoor.

No performance improvements = totally irrelevant for the player. That's why they didn't make it a big deal.

I'm a bit sad about it, I literally thought they would be fixing lag for real this time. But it's almost like upgrading the kernel and systems.

It's not going to make your game run better. It's only to ensure the game will continue to be supported for years to come. Meaning they're safeguarding against technical issues on their end since the current Servers are 6 years old.

Well, if the new servers would be able to hold a connection and not drop me off twice per hour that would be worth it.

Hm, or shorter loading screen times - zoning in and character load is really slow currently.

Of course they have to say it likely won't improve performance, imagine the backlash if they said "new servers for better performance!" , that'd be much worse than the 2020 year of performance fail.

I wonder if they are moving the servers to Azure data centers. Would make sense with them being owned by Microsoft and all now.

New just means replacing the old, it does not mean superfast to improve performance.

Expect the same dire performance, but with added 'maintenance due to server change' banners every other day.

That buyout isn't happening until late 2nd quarter or maybe early 3rd. Right now, it's all still ZOS - and from what was said, "the game will go on exactly as it is now".

Yeah well unless they plan on putting actual servers in Oceana, we're all going to be connecting from half a world away anyway.

So instead of 350 ping, we MIGHT get 310!

Maybe I misunderstood but when he got farther into it I thought he said not actually new servers but upgrades to the servers to keep out of date problems from happening?

This would be a good time to implement an Oceanic server, if not now then it would be never and a missed opportunity.
