Gamble with Crown crates is ridiculous , Why did i spent 15 USD ended with 4 crates, ultimatlely 25 GEMS I was hoping to get my Wolf pup which is Legendary reward but then again i ended with 1/4 what i need to extract doing math means i need crazy luck or to burn 3x more to get 1 mount,pet,costume..

Crazy, Never again lesson learned. I will save for house from ESO plus reward from now on

Buying crates with an expectation or even just a faint hope of pulling one exact thing will usually lead to disappointment. Crates can be decent if you are looking for a large variety of items, usually lower tier.

Doesn't make sense to you or many consumers, but ZOS did just fine. You wanted a pet. You paid. You failed. They still got your crowns in the end. Great deal for them as long as they don't mind how it makes them look overall.

"non consequential" is relative. There is a reason that many people say that fashion is the endgame.

If the crown store fashion is now endgame then the whole concept is deeply flawed.

Endgame means earning something, an achievement that takes the effort of having played the game long, becoming skilled and achieving a goal most will not.

As such you are equating spending a lot of money to eventually get a drop OR you want the drops so common as to be meaningless, both scenarios invalidate the end game concept.

It has zero impact on your game, which is why you have this viewpoint. You need to understand that other players, a very large number of them, are much more interested in housing, cosmetics and more casual play. If you measure winning only by how good you are at pvp or how fast you crush hard dungeons and trials, that is fine, but you need to understand others have different priorities. These are the players that ZOS targets and the strategy works and is more widely accepted because we still tend to judge something as pay to win based on more traditional forms of winning. There is a massive amount of money to be made on cosmetics and ZOS is very aware of this.

With each crate you buy you are getting at least three items. You know going in the three items are random. If you wanted something specific that is on you and you alone. Nothing tricky going on so the how it makes them look doesn't really apply. You got exactly what you agreed to.

Back to Vanya's problem. You can use in game gold and have the crates gifted to you. I used one of the trading sites in Discord and it worked really well.

Maybe you should try the far superior free to play ways to earn social status, since that seems to be your "endgame". Such options include (but are not limited to) kindness, generosity, humor, loyalty, dedication, wisdom, courteous, cheerful, humility, understanding, and a whole lot more. Pick a few that match your personality and have at it.

It doesn't matter what you or I or anyone else considers pay to win. It matters that players like cosmetics and ZOS makes money off of it. You can call it whatever you want. Of course you do have a point about your other suggestions on social goals. All of those things can contribute to a fun gaming experience and that's really what matters. Players do what they want and enjoy the game in the ways they choose to do so. Kindness, generosity, humor and all the rest are amazing traits and none of them are locked behind a paywall. Many cosmetics are.

Maybe you should try reading comments before replying, nobody said it was pay to win or anything about social status. I have never purchased a clown crate and never will, it’s about taking advantage of customers with limited time items they can’t buy directly so if they want them bad enough they have to keep gambling to get them.

I don't have a problem with crates in terms of resenting them or ranting about them. They appear to be a successful business model for ZoS. They have their policies and that is fine.

But I also have my policies. I will not buy anything unless I know exactly what it is. That is, no mystery boxes for me. I have enjoyed receiving free crates but never have and never will buy one. I find that somewhat ironic because I have crowns and I'm happy enough (within reason) to spend them on crown store items I want - again, as long as I know exactly what I'm buying and for how much. ZoS would actually profit a lot more from me by offering all items straight up for crowns in the normal crown store.

I don't understand why people get so upset about the crown crates. On the one hand, money has to come in for the development and maintenance of the game and not everyone has ESO plus. And on the other hand, as has already been said, nobody is forced to buy the crates. You shouldn't go into it with the expectation of getting something specific, you just have to see it as fun (if you buy crates). You are either lucky or you are not. Not too bad either. Of course there will always be people who cannot control themselves, but dangers of addiction lurk everywhere.

Nah it isn't gambling because you get a crate expecting three items and that is what you get. Just like sports card packs. You know you will get a certain number of cards but not what athletes you will get. Or like those gumball machines that give you worthless plastic bobbles, same thing.
