Suggestion: Overhaul the game's loot system to only drop what our character's have points in.

Best would be to let player pick the drop they want from a list of gear rewards for the task they completed but I think that would not be inconveniently medieval enough for this game.

And it would remove the grind.. the game is designed to keep us playing, so that would be bad

Just further trying to explain what's in my mind...

If the Bosses dropped the materials we needed for certain kit THEN we could go and make whatever ourselves but the varietal requirements for qualification of engagement I think should be expanded to cover a selection of activities JUST to qualify.

Each boss having posession of material x.

Rather than attacking Boss (x) over and over and over again on the off chance of 100 to 1 that whats required will appear turn the hours and hoursd of repetition into a more investigative edcational quest driven experience that, with good wits and bright understanding, whats required becomes an enjoyable feat rather than a doldrum..

Make the drop worked for with a varietal qualification process........................................ rather than repeatedly attempting to achieve a low % drop. I think that's what he's saying anyway

The Next generation ESO has to cover something like this.... otherwise, most of you here reading this have achieved high levels anyway so why would you re-grind the same book AGAIN in the next version..... rather than find yourself in an environment that's altogether new and re-exciting, not common place to your perceptions.

First off, Requiring skill point expenditure is a waste of skill points at low levels. With crafting, Antiquities, multiple other options, adding to the fact your skill points eventually come from gathering skyshards, there are a lot of things these points could be used on, especially a early stages of development.

Second, a lot of people are going to eventually put points into all 3 armor passives, thus bypassing the 'I only use one type of armor' rationale. The Undaunted passive gives a bonus for wearing all 3 types at once. Additionally, a lot of players like the option of the 5/1/1 because in the future they just might want to switch the character around and not have to start developing the armor level from 1. And since this does gain them access to the passives, no matter how minimal, the player will eventually put points into this armor.

Third, I'm guessing you don't do much crafting? I don't really care what the gear is that shows up. Unless it's a specialty gear, I'm not gonna need it. It won't be better than my crafted sets. This makes great Mats when I deconstruct the loot. Even if you don't craft, you can just decon the loot, and sell the Mats in bulk to a vendor or list them ( if you happen to be in a trading guild)

Seems to me it would add a lot more calculations to the loot drop equation, which really are not necessary.

Now, if you are talking Dungeons and specific pieces, why not just have a selection at the start of the Dungeon that you click on the specific item you want before you begin? Of course, That would greatly reduce the number of players running Dungeons every day, since they would get what they want and move on to something else. Which is probably not in the best interests of the Company.

    IMHO

I agree with some of the sentiment of the OP's desires, but really more in regards to weapons.

Because weapons are many, shared between the 3-4 sets that drop in the dungeon, only come off the last boss or chests and share a loot table with jewelry it does seem to me that there should be some kind of bad luck system in place to help get the last drops because mathematically the time to grind any given set or weapon is beyond the scope of what the game needs in regards to having things to do, or grind.

I have been farming Crimson Twilight for weeks, sometimes with back to back runs being all I do for the day. I have run it enough that I have completed a full set of divines and that is without trading other players because a LOT of people are farming crimson twilight for PVP ATM.

I still have not seen a necklace drop, and I think I am at 43 cost or so to reconstruct what has dropped for me. The grind has gotten progressively slower and due to the amount of people farming the set and farming weapons, the chances for a share in a group are also slim.

I completely understand the need for games to have a grind, to slow down content consumption so that the game maintains a healthy player base long after the latest expansion has dropped, but in regards to weapon drops and the collections tab, there really does need to be a bad luck protection mechanism implemented.

Keep in mind, my experiences are for one set. Multiply this by 18 other characters who may need various sets of gear and one can easily math out that the time it will take to collect the necessary drops far out weighs the slowing of content consumption in between expansions or even the projected life of the game.

Short term, they either need to greatly increase the drop rates of jewels and weapons in the chests, or add them into the normal boss loot pool as a bonus drop. Perhaps 100% armor drop, with a 25% chance to drop an additional weapon or jewelry piece. Would go a long way to helping the weapon/jewelry grind.

I was a hoarder pre sticker book. I deconed about 2000 items when it launched. I still don't have an AY necklace, and I can't even begin to fathom how many times I have run VHRC HM. Haha

Edit: Guys, please read this post more closely. You would still be able to farm gear for your alts using your main with this change. I'll bold the part for you that makes this possible so people stop overlooking it. This change would actually make farming gear for your alts easier.

Thank you ZOS for implementing the stickerbook. Its definitely a step in the right direction. However the game is still incredibly grindy, painfully so in the case of arenas.

I have a quick suggestion that would fix the unnecessary grind a bit more. Making the loot system only drop gear that belongs to skill lines we have points invested in.

So let's say I have a tank that ONLY has points in heavy armor and 1h and shield for armor and weapon skill lines. With this change I should only get 1h weapons, shields, and heavy armor. If I decided I wanted to collect other armor or weapon types all I'd need to do is put a single point into those skill lines. Or just trade with my group members.

This would make the game a hell of a lot more enjoyable. No longer would we have to run those boring arenas countless times just to get a single weapon we want, likewise for dungeon weapons. This would also make collecting that last weapon for our stickerbook easier.

Some of us might start dungeon farming the perfect trait again instead of just transmuting. That means more people doing dungeons!

Oh and jewelry should still drop regardless.

Now some of you might think this would mean the end of dungeon running but I assure you it wouldn't. Pledges still need to be done to get monster shoulders, the 1st daily random dungeon is still the fastest way to get transmute shards, and new players are still a thing in this game. ZOS could literally let us choose exactly which gear pieces we want and that still wouldn't kill dungeon running.

Here's the problem, edit included: At some point, you're going to be getting all the gear anyway, if you want to waste points in weapon lines for weapons you're not using.

Since, under the current system, you're subject to get anything, how would limiting what you get equate to more people running it? Removing options doesn't increase traffic, it has the opposite affect.

Agreed. I can understand a super low drop rate on a mount (not that ESO has mount drops), but like in WOW I can see having a low drop rate on a cosmetic. But for gear that is required to play the game, the drops should not be as ridiculous as they are in regards to jewelry and weapons.

Multiply those low drop rates with the number of sets in game and the time required is just ludicrous, and again this is for gear which is necessary to play the game, not a rare cosmetic.

They've taken most the "grind" out of the game already. The game needs players repeating content to survive. Sure maybe for the first week or two after this change was made players would run more dungeons but it wouldn't last long. Not a good idea for the long term health of the game.
I agree, main issue with getting sets is the weapons who can be very grindy even jewelry seems pretty easy to get.

If you got what you wanted straight away you would quickly realise the game only has about 2 days of end game PvE content.

But even a tank should have the first 3 passives of Light and Medium armour skill lines unlocked. As well as Destro staff or bow depending on what you use on the other bar.

I rather not. Single point or not thats still a wasted point.
