I have no idea if splitting servers would do anything to fix performance, but if they were to do such a thing then I think the queue system would need to be cross server or wait times would be a nightmare.

Servers in this game don't function like you think they do. Log into the other region's server and you'll see none of your CP, bought cosmetics, bought DLC's for crowns, homes, and other things there. Also you can make a character of the same name on this other server if it's not taken.

You'd effectively be starting at the very beginning and as a roleplayer when I learned all my cosmetics, dyes, and DLCs didn't exist on the European server I immediately noped out. Sure when starting this new server they can make one for each region and transfer a copy of everything we have there, but I still wouldn't play on it.

Basically this.. unless it was a new platform, you would have to start from scratch

Each megaserver consists of many individual servers linked together. Splitting up the population into separate servers would serve no purpose except to remove the link and thereby divide guilds and friends.

Megaservers don't mean everyone is always on the same map, it just means anyone can be on the same map as anyone else on that megaserver. It also means there's no concern about maps getting too crowded or too empty because copies are created and deleted as needed. That's why we never have to queue to get into a map, unless there's problems with the server.

For example during New Life when everyone and their mother was going to Eastmarch to get the festival quests you wouldn't actually see everyone in North America on the same map. There would be 4 or 5 or more copies of Eastmarch with players divided between them just like if they were on seperate servers. But at the same time there might be only one copy of a map which isn't seeing much activity, because there's no need for more, so players who are there aren't completely alone even if no one else in their time zone is in the same part of the game.

It also means it's a lot rarer to meet another player outside the game and discover you can't play together because you're on different servers.

So forcing players to split up and restricting them to only being on the same map as people in their time zone would do absolutely nothing to improve performance and in some cases may actually make it worse because the servers would be forced to maintain 1 copy of each map for each server even if there's only 1 person on each one, whereas now they can put all those people in the same copy of the map and use the remaining memory and processing power to make more copies of overcrowded maps.

It might be worth giving players the option to select a role-play version of a map where they're phased seperately from other people and only meet other role-players so they won't be trolled while trying to play, but it would do absolutely nothing for performance or connectivity, only offer that one convinience. (There would also need to be an option to report players who selected role-play mode then used it to troll others, because that absolutely would happen.)

Is this a thinly veiled thread for a PVE or easier version of Cyrodiil? I only ask because all the points in the OP are PVP related and I have never come across any of those issues outside of Cyrodiil.

Give us the black desert server system got like 8 servers or various populations certain servers have the events going on while others didn't letting event seekers or in quest to gether and leave the rest alone. Same idea as that rp server they could make a rp server with alter enemies more rp friendly. And like BD let players flip flop to which server channel they wanna log into at character select.

Each account has like (number between 18 and 100) databases working together.

This is why it's hard on the servers.
    That's it, that's all.

And screw the rest of the world, right? Sometimes I get sick of the North-American supremacist way of thinking...

I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).

... a role-playing dedicated server for this lovingly and lavishly created Online Role Playing Game. <3 (Or some other server shard creations.)

The "mega-server" system is strained to breaking at this point, simply does not work efficiently, it makes things badly overcrowded and increases lag. A year of "optimization" has done nearly nothing to correct the increasing lag/desync problems. The "running on mounts" issue seems to be solved, but the "black ghosts" and all other lag issues are never going to be "optimized away" without reducing player population by SPLITTING UP the mega-servers into smaller units.

I mean PS4 NA -- North-freaking America?! Seriously?! No, you need East Coast, Midwest, Mountain and West Coast Time Zone Servers at a minimum.

The game population needs to be spread out.

    Thanks --

The problem is that this is not World of Warcraft, there are not millions playing ESO. Spreading out the population by timezone like World of Warcraft does would make the game feel dead.

I do think an RP server should have been made from the start with additional game elements that appeal to the RPers. I don't think it would work now though, people are already entrenched into their guilds, communities etc.

Lastly, RP servers in most games are policed by the developer at least in the naming conventions. I don't think ZOS is willing to hire a person to police an RP server to ensure that non-RP names are not being seen.
