I pay 20k gold weekly to both trading guilds im in, for one it's to keep my place at both of them. And second is that they're both placed in Craglorn usually so i sell really well! :)

On console you have to pay to be in a guild with trader in a capital city.
Pc it varies.. I'm in 3 trading guilds and pay no dues in any of them.

I guess that depends on the definition of "dues". In my case/guild it means some sort of participation to support the guild, like actually USE our guild trader we pay millions a week for. The members we remove first are those that haven't logged in for a while, but after that the folks who have no trouble asking in guild chat for people to fill out their groups/trials and never once supported the guild in any way shape or form, they go next.

Gotta love when people feel they are "entitled" to use all the guild services and PUG recruit in our guild chat... without ever lifting a finger to help our little community. Someone said it above, no one likes a freeloader... IRL or in games.

I always leave when I see those second kind of kicks in my free guilds, even though I always donate and support. Because I just like guilds that follow their advertising. If it's supposed to be free, then people shouldn't be punished for not giving anything. If dues are required, just say that upfront and how much you need and let everyone pay it. That's just my philosophy though

I would too, fortunately we are very upfront about it, although it appears a great number of people don't bother to read the descriptions of the guilds they apply to, even when you put it on big bold colors right up top. This is our's, the actual requirements are plainly stated on the recruitment screen as well:

    Applicants:
    1. Blank applications will be denied, take a few minutes to tell us a bit about yourself.
    2. By applying you agree to meet our weekly membership requirements.

Two things... First off about 80% of the applications are blank, so instantly denied. Then the ones that did put in a bit about themselves, still don't get we have reqs half the time. Just last night we had a new member join, he proceeded to mention how he was booted from his last guild for no reason... Our members replied he probably didn't meet that guilds requirements whether it was dues, join Discord, log in or whatever. His response, they didn't have any requirements and he doesn't join guilds that have requirements /boogle! Our application CLEARLY states we require both Discord and some level of participation in helping the guild grow and maintain a trader, so what the heck?

Anyways, my take on the matter from a guild master perspective is, you read the application, you read our MOTD/About Us in game and you have read the About Us on our Discord, all of which make it perfectly clear what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you. Seems pretty straightforward to me... but so many people are completely surprised when we remove them from the guild to make room for those that will keep their word.

Who would pay their own in-game gold to be in someone else's guild? Eps. when there's hoards of free, friendly guilds around.

Guilds with "high" dues / sales requirements have the most friendly and helpful members in the game, in my experience. They are usually the most knowledgeable, stable, and dedicated players, and the most generous as well. And, as has already been mentioned, it costs tens of millions of gold per week to have the better trader spots..... and you are indeed more likely to sell your stuff (often at higher than normal prices) in a good location.

It's simply a case of if you're worried about spending your gold, then a top trading guild isn't a good fit for you anyway.

I'm in two trading guilds, neither have dues, but they have raffles and whenever I get the email with the raffle info, I reply with gold for tickets and delete the email. That way I know I've taken care of it.

I probably don't have anything to sell that would make it worthwhile, but I'm also not into playing the economic side of the game. If I ever change my mind about that it might make sense. For now I'd rather not pay dues, though.

Just an FYI, those recipes and motifs you loot from chests, bags, etc... many are worth a small fortune. We were speed running Banished Cells for a resto staff today, my buddy looted an Imperial Motif, which was worth about 125K. Alchemy mats you loot or are laying around to pickup, many are worth 200-500 gold for just a single one, fish, 200 gold each now! Honestly, it is nearly impossible to not loot stuff in this game that is worth a ton of gold just by playing it. Whether you choose to convert that item to 200,000 gold or sell it to a vendor for 3 gold, well that is your choice..

I'm in 2 trading guilds (which is plenty for me) and don't pay dues. I'm personally not a fan of pay to be a member, so I avoid guilds with dues. I don't have a problem with making lots of gold with the current ones I'm in.

I agree, the "well rounded" high trade guilds have great communities with many awesome members, I am in a couple. The guild chat is nice and not just a bunch of players looking to sell/buy from each other or get groups.

Your last statement cracks me up though, because I know it to be true. You would think that the player concerned about their gold would be interested in making more, but that isn't the case most of the time. Many would rather cling to their 17,357 gold life saving than easily make 4-5x that a day, doing nothing more that putting stuff on the guild store... instead of deconning or vendoring it.

I almost never vendor stuff and I do sell my recipes and motifs, I'm just not interested in researching what sells for a high price versus rapid turnover and such. That's what I meant by the economic side of the game, and I think that if I got into that with the intent to make real gold then dues might make sense. Currently I'm happy just playing around, selling what I happen to randomly loot, without worrying about how quickly it moves or (more importantly) feeling like I need to log on to make the gold and pay the dues every single week.

The stuff I loot rarely gets me more that four to five hundred gold apeice, maybe 2k here and there, but stacks of mats often go for around 15k or more....just more slowly....and that's about the extent of my gold-making efforts.

Yes, I have to pay 3k per week, I'd rather pay that than have to search for guilds every time I want to sell something
