I’m not much of a role player myself (except writing some backstories to my characters in my head) but I prefer that their looks tend to have a bit “edgier” feeling compared to Bretons from my experience, and they are also shorter and less “round faced” than nords, which I personally find to be the one of hardest races to make. (Comments apply mainly female characters, I don’t have Nord and Breton males)

Every role in game is done better by someone else. And though its only happened once, I've been asked in a random vet dungeon why my tank was imperial and not nord. I couldn't even say for looks because he looks like the mountain in merc heavy helm.

The restyle function was replaced by the outfit system. If you like the imperial armor style, it is certainly a good choice to buy the upgrade - you can convert any kind of armor to the imperial style - well, if you actually have an imperial character that is, it won't work on different races.
