Do People Actually Pay Guild Dues?

Since this game launched, and my time playing off and on, I always see Guilds recruiting with the line 'No Guild Dues!'

Who would pay their own in-game gold to be in someone else's guild? Eps. when there's hoards of free, friendly guilds around.

Inb4 "you don't know how hard it is to run a guild" crowd :D

Some people do, but you by no means have to.

People who want to keep their trader at the best spot. It is impossible to bid for traders with tax gold even with hundreds of millions made in sales.

The only guilds that I see charge dues are ones with traders in very expensive areas. If there are ones that charge dues for no reason then they can go pound sand. Even then if you look around you can find guilds in those locations that charge little to no dues

Typically trade guilds with top tier locations will charge dues of some sort. Either mandatory or collected through optional raffles or donations. Plenty of people are willing to pay dues for a great trader location. It's not for everybody and there are plenty of "no dues" guilds for those that aren't interested.

Outside of trade guilds, I don't know of any that would have mandatory dues as there isn't much of a reason to have people pay unless there is some sort of notable benefit for doing so.

I did with a guild I really liked. It was a guild that introduced me to some trials. Then the trial leader left game and guy who took over kept trials mainly to his cliche friends in guild. So, I was paying dues for nothing and quickly left.

Many trade guilds usually have a sales quota you need to hit in order for them to recoup the cost of having a merchant. Like say 'Sell 10k worth of product or donate 2k to the guild bank every week"

None of my guilds have dues. My trade guild is pretty big, to the point where we can't really invite new members, and outside of one of the officers oversleeping and forgetting to bid, we've never lost our trader.

If you don't feel like you're getting anything in return, definitely don't pay dues to a guild. There are tons of other guilds.

Huh, there are more valid reasons for guild dues than I thought.

Thank you all for the info!

    Yeah, they do.

It's worth paying them if you are selling a lot of items and need access to a market. But I would never commit myself to having to pay them in order to remain part of a guild. I only join guilds where it's voluntary and I pay them when I make significant sales. But if it's during a week where I didn't feel like farming and didn't sell anything of significance, I don't pay.

I have 2 guilds with dues and a raffle, 2 guilds without dues and with raffles and auctions, and 1 guild without dues or raffles or anything (though I do donate). The first group has traders maybe 80% of the time, the second group ALWAYS has traders in excellent locations (I can't remember when they didn't have a trader), and that last guild has a trader 50% of the time or less, and usually that's in a less-than-ideal location (like out in the sticks somewhere).

Honestly the only reason I don't pay, if I don't pay, is because I forget (or just, don't log in). I have nothing against sharing with the guild bank, especially if it's a trade oriented guild, and/or if it has a well stocked HQ with all the crafting goodies.

What does a Guild Trader do, anyways? How does that benefit the guild folks?
Can anyone give it stuff to sell?

I'm in multiple guilds, and only one of them has required dues, which are a very small amount. Nevertheless, I make voluntary weekly donations to most of my guilds to help support things like purchasing crafting stations, saving up to bid on a trader, or anything else that might cost a lot of gold.

Yes anyone in the guild can list an item in that guild. Normally only people in the guild can buy them. There are NPCs all over tamriel called guild traders which guilds have to pay to hire on a weekly basis.

With a guild trader hired, the items listed the in guild are open to the general public. So instead of a maximum of 499 people being able to buy your items, the entire population of the game can by visiting the guild trader. You can see why having a guild trader is attractive.

Hiring these guild traders is very expensive. Some of them are located in better locations like Mournhold and Elden Root which multiple guilds will try to bid for. Some of them are located in not so ideal locations like outlaw camps.

Of course people actually pay guild dues - this is standard way of operating on Xbox NA. Generally speaking, the only "trading" guilds that don't charge dues are not primarily trading guilds or are not trying to bid on top locations (with few exceptions).

I pay 10k each week for a trading guild, trader in elden root or mournhold. My other guilds don't ask for any financial input and i'm only willing to pay for a trader in one of the capital cities.

It's all about the trade location. I pay 10k a week to stay in a guild that is always in a top 2 trading city and I make 100-200K a week in sales in return.

Bigger due guild seem to get better trader most of the time wich mean more sales and more gold

From the few guild i have been a part of:

The 15k gold/ week guild have the best spot(mournhold, wayrest, etc) all the time

The 10k club get good spot (riften and windhelm for exemple) and even sometime one of the best

The 5k club get ok spot in less visited city (santinel for exemple)or in the outlaw refuge of more popular city

The free club get the rest like the out in the middle of no where trader(like the one near the ouze wayshrine) or the outlaw refuge of less popular city and some time none at all

Keep in mind on ps4 they is no add on to caculate how much member X has sold this week so no sale requirement
So dues are the main sources of income for some guild

And most of the time they do kick you if you dont pay your due

Also there is some non trader guild that have monthly due to participate in event/activities those i dont understand🤔

No thanks. Auction house will cause more problems than you think. Which is not the topic of this thread.

Most trade guilds I am in have raffles and other ways to earn the min dues, you don't contribute nothing either by sales tax, buying raffle tickets or taking part in events to get stuff for guild auctions you get the boot usually monitored by an add on, don't know how they manage on console.

If your selling enough to need to be in a trade guild the dues should be nothing but pocket change for you, if your short on gold join one of the no dues guilds just don't expect to always get a trader.

    I pay dues

and my guild has trader in Mournhold every week.

I make about 10x in sales what i pay in dues.

on xbox EU there is no guild charging dues, on NA you have some where you pay up to 20k gold per week.
    Those with traders in mournhold.
Elden Root and Wayrest are around 10k.

    The difference between both servers:
NA has 5 to 10 times more players than EU.
So the few guilds with 450+ members on EU always can get a trading place in mournhold or elden root without too much investment.
On NA you have far more large trading guilds, and so just those with the highest bids get a place at those two spots.

If 20k as investment are worth the result depends on what you sell. I sell lots of furniture on EU (no dues), on NA I meanwhile drastically reduced my collection, as the profit is too small (very agressive underbidding).

Gold mats sell well in elden root too, and motifs/gear. So I have quit the guilds that increased the prices from 10 to 20k for mournhold not long ago.
I pay 10k in 4 guilds, and no dues in one (good sales too, Alinor).

Yes. I keep paying even when my sales are enough I would not need to as a token of support. But there are also guilds with no dues if its a big deal for someone.

Depends. One of the best trading guilds on my server have dues when you sold less then 250k/w or smth, it's not a prob at all as in such a guilds people sell for way more mostly but for example I don't play the game almost rn but still have old stuff to sell so I'm keeping the spot and supporting the guild with this, simple.

It's mostly for top end trading guilds or the smaller community ones which demands collecting gold through donation, raffles or small dues to be able to have an okay bid or constant trader in a fixed spot.

I'm in some of the top trading guilds on PC/NA. One has a make-sales-or-donate rule that I always satisfy by making sales. The other two have a contribute-financially-somehow dictum that I satisfy by making in-kind donations, usually of purple mats or of economical master writs.

But different servers have slightly different customs.
