I am baffled as to what could cause the problem as it can’t be collision boxes. It took me a while to find it was the objects themselves and nothing to do with their placement even. Quite infuriating indeed, especially as I really liked how the little mortar and pestle looked on the alchemy station.
What is odd is that some items DO work. For example I have some pans on my Elsweyr grill and the grill is still usable. But place an object a foots distance away from any other crafting station and its a no go, they become unusable.
So, this leads me to believe it's not the props/furnishing items perse, but the crafting stations that have the issue.
But I dunna, its hard to say.
Another annoying thing is some of the furns/plants that have collision on them. You cant place them in a path or even close to the edge of a path or your toon will get stuck on them. Why?!?! Why?!?!

I gave this a try for science — the Redguard Delicate Vial as well as the Mortar and Pestle both disable the Elsweyr Grill when placed on or above it. So the problem seems to be with the furnishings, at least how they interact with or otherwise effect any crafting station.
I haven’t noticed any pattern in what objects disable crafting stations and which don’t. Certainly it isn’t a size issue.

Interesting. I would have to say at this point that both of us are right and both of us are wrong. The issue with unusable crafting stations could be both certain stations and certain furnishing items. Like placing a station too close to a wall or border can sometimes make them unusable, or sunk in the floor too much.
Who knows, but some consistency would be welcomed.
