My advice to a new person is never let ESO take over your life. Play smart.

If you begin to play ESO there might be a time you fall in love with the game. Some tough decisions will have to be made. Should you do my home work first? Should you clean the house, or do your chore, before playing ESO? Should you listen to your GF/BF when they have concerns about you playing. If you don't play wisely you could lose a job, an education, and/or friends. Most importantly you could lose many opportunities in the real world if you play the game like I have.

The game is fun, but not worth it. Play smart.

If you want a friend, get a dog.

"What advice would you give a new players?"

I have only one best advice to give to any new players:

Don't waste your money and time and go find a better game.

After 6 years and $10k spent on this game, as well as toxic approach from the company, I could not have made a better decision. Improved my QoL by a 💯 times.

No, seriously. Get out while you can. Maybe stay for the story and play it casually. But don't ever try to make it somewhere.

Follow the main and faction story lines, starting with your faction's story line. This was how the game was originally designed. Dont start with a DLC because you will miss many "easter eggs" that refer to earlier encounters that you have missed by starting with a DLC. The leveling will be quick and you will be lvl 50 before you finish the first story line. Don't rush through it - a lot of effort and thought went into the lore.

Start your researching early and feed your mount daily. Enjoy.

I agree with this too except I would wait until level 40 to begin the main story while doing the original beginner zones; Tamrial One did scale those zones to help new players jump to level 10 quicker - I say this b/c the experience is decent at higher levels than lower and the quests are quick-ish.

    28. Doing cyrodiil daily quests in the towns have excellent flat rate experience. All training gear and a +50% exp. scroll lets you gain multiple levels from each zone. This was part of the original game launch that allowed people to level exclusively in Cyrodiil - the PVE part of the zone; and usually you can farm oblivion gates for FG points and sellable cold fire siege, and FG has a bounty passive that lets you do a daily PVE quest.

For those who want to avoid PVP encounters; you can equip Darloc and Night Silence to move a run speed without ever running out of stamina for stealth (for those who aren't vampires)... re equip your normal gear when you get to your destination.

    Make 1 of each class

Join mages guild, fighters guild, thieves guild and the dark brotherhood

Get provisioning, alchemy, enchanting training from mages guild.
Get blacksmithing, woodworking and clothing training from fighters guild.
Get jewelry crafting training from the main city, Alinor in summerset.

Log out each character at the stables every night so when you log back in you remember to feed yoir horse

Practice opening chests often, you can get gear to put on

Do the main quest line : the hooded figure will start you off...you get 10 full skill points by the end of that questline

    Buy bag spaces

Clear zones by picking up,skyshards and lore books

Lore books give mages guild rep and open up mages guild skills
Do dolmens to get xp and fighter guild rep to open up fighters guild skills

Read book shelves to get free skill points

    3 sky shards = one whole skill,point

You can always get skill points you spent back by visiting a shrine and paying gold

Loot many containers you get cooking ingredients etc

    Good luck 😊💕

This sounds like you have bought loot boxes intensively - otherwise I wouldn't know, on what you could possibly spend $10,000 on this game. Loot boxes are a gamble and I wouldn't consider it valid to judge the game based on this feature.

The game is great, and one doesn't have to spend more on the game than an ESO+ subscription after buying it - just never buy loot boxes and it will be fine - ESO+ will provide you with the crowns for some nice stuff you might want, and it is necessary if you like crafting.

Otherwise what @vamp_emily said is true - one shouldn't allow the game to take over one's life. Playing on and off basically, a lot do it like this (stated by Matt Firor) and this is a healthy way of doing it - and it won't cost you a lot of money either.

The game will drop you into the newest expansion that you have purchased, instead of at the beginning of the game. Story arc gets confusing because of that.

In the "player guides" section of the forums here, there is a very well written post that will help guide you in the order of the story.

Here it is for quick reference:

    Crafting tip:
If you do a lot of writs on your character you will find yourself using your racial crafting stone. Some of these are quite rare and valuable to sell at a guild vendor and should not be squandered on making gear that gets dumped into the daily crafting quests.

Pro tip: aquire or buy Molybdenum the Breton Racial trait stones from the merchants that sell vanilla trait stones. For whatever reason, it appears first in the list of choices to craft stuff out of by default. Saving time to not have to switch between trait stones. I keep around 200 stack of these on me at all times. One day of crafting will buy you enough to last your character at least a months worth of quick crafting without risk of using something of value like dwemer frames for example which are better spent on furnishings or selling at guild traders.

    Tip: mount training
Others have said it but I want to emphasize the importance. Train your mount every day.its a long grind minimally 5 or so months without using training scrolls.

When I started I never even wanted a mount. I worked through each zone on foot to be more immersed in the scenery and zones. Leveling my character to cp160 I went through the entire storyline this way for my faction and defeated the molag bol having never invested in a mount or training.

But What came next for me was exploring pvp. And I was a fool for not having spent my time in game at least prepping a mount for use in an arena where it is essential. In Cyrodiil PVP a fully upgraded speed is critical so start there. Everyday. Get a cat mount if you can not so herky jerky to ride. Train on it even you do not plan to use it.

Take your time, and be willing to give everything a good try. Even if its some part of the game you thought you might not like when you started, you never know.
When I first started playing there were some aspects to ESO that I thought weren't really my thing that I wouldn't ever do or enjoy. Then I got incidentally pulled into a few of them and oh how wrong I was - turns out those areas are the ones that kept me playing ever since.
