How about a Scroll crafting system instead?

People have been asking for something like a spell-crafting system for years even though they know it could never be balanced so what about an alternative to that idea...

How about a scroll crafting system where you can craft pre-existing abilities within the game for one-time use? I am thinking of a scroll for every class-based ability, Imagine a Dragonknight using a Scroll of Summon Storm Atronach which would perform the base version of the Sorcerer Ultimate, imagine a Sorcerer inturn using a Scroll of Summon Flesh Colossus, imagine a Necromancer casting a scroll that would mimic a Nightblade ability on use.

Of course to keep it balanced Scrolls would have a cooldown mechanic much like Potions do and the scrolls that cast class ultimate would be legendary quality, some abilities such as Overload, and Bone Goliath may be exempt from this system due to the unique mechanics of the abilities, summoned pet ability scrolls could be altered to have the summon only be temporary.

What do you think?

How can it be exploited if a scroll can only be used once every few minutes and when a legendary quality scroll costs as much as a legendary quality weapon? it would be little different to the potion system we already have and no the abilities would not be custom, they would be one-time use scrolls of existing abilities, explain to me how this can be exploited..

Some people are very very rich, and others aren't. We definitely don't need more expensive consumables that translate income/wealth inequality to combat advantage (and pretty much any scroll like you describe, not just the legendary ones, would be a significant advantage for the person using it, regardless of the cooldown).

I'd take a scroll crafting system in addition to spell crafting. ;P

Sure, balance would be difficult, but I'm here for the Elder Scrolls first, Online second--and balance has never been central to the Elder Scrolls experience.

Spellcrafting like the one which was introduced 6 or 7 years ago (https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Spellcrafting_(Online)#Spells) could be balanced, at least I do not see anything against it. And they could include stamina morphs of class skills into that system, so stamina people would have more options that just weapon skills and skills from pvp lines. They could include some sneak buffing spells, so mages would have a chance to sneak like someone in medium armor. There are so much possibilities.

Let's be extremely precise in our use of terms.

The cost isn't stopping anyone, people have millions to burn on all kinds of stuff. If there's a several minutes cooldown, then there are no reasons to use such scroll because it won't benefit any kind of player (except roleplayers maybe). If it's a 45 sec cooldown like any potion, then it will be used and abused. NB with crit surge? Sure. Stamden with streak? You bet.

I approve of any and all ideas that expand the toolbox...this could be situationally useful, and if on a cooldown there is virtually no way to exploit it...though to satisfy those who say no to everything, I would suggest excluding ultimates, then it is purely utility and strategic on use.

I could see it as a branch of rune-crafting, but instead of creating weapon and armor effects, the effects could be inscribed onto parchment for one time use.

So for example, a weapon fire damage glyph could become a fireball scroll.

I'd stay away from making them too "ultimate" though - just add another source of utility on the same level as a normal class skill and make it into a way to use excess runes for something else.

Imho adding scrolls or spells that mimic class abilities is something that should NOT happen.

I mean imagine every class having access to streak or cloak or Leap... :#

Remember when ZOS changed Turn Evil so now it works on everyone (instead only undead & Daedra ) ? And on top of it is basically superior version of NB's Mass Hysteria as it has additional effects on top and does not have target cap... It became one of the best CC in the game to the point that even NBs slot it instead of their own class skill...

You would have plenty of things like that if other classes could use other classes exclusive skills. Game was designed that way. You can not have all most powerful skills on one character. Otherwise what is left of balance in this game would be gone. You have your class skills, and other skills as a "supplement" if your class is lacking something.

It would have to have a cooldown much longer then the potion cooldown. Having a stack of 200 scrolls of Summon Flesh Colossus. even with a 45 second cooldown would be a new level of OP.

Imagine strolling out for a little pvp one fine evening. you come across somebody that you would like to engage in fisticuffs with. This player whacks out 2 Dawnbreakers spaced about 15 seconds apart and leaving you in a pile of ash since your scrolls do not share a global cooldown with ultimates. That is just one of the many reasons why I vehemently say no.

I could see something similar to SWTOR's grenade consumables working, but nothing as overpowered as what OP is talking about.

Bunch of fixed AOE damage spells/debuffs and make sure they can't crit.

Maybe some support AOE abilities giving buffs/resources to those near you or in your group.

But nothing so overpowered as giving players access to ultimates or as annoying as giving them combat pets with a consumable.

That said I am kinda bias since I just want this added so I get an extra crafting skill line for my daily writs.

You are wrong. By everyone having access to the same skills(if only on the occasional utility level) it BALANCES the game entirely. Look at Necro and Warden in PvP and how dominating those two classes are...they only dominate PvP because their toolbox is more expansive than the other classes...the fact is that if you opened everyone's toolboxes to the same extent as those two classes, it would actually BRING balance across the classes. In your example of Turn Evil...now nightblade is PERFECTLY BALANCED AGAINST THE OTHER CLASSES because all of them have access to the same CC if they so choose....the problem isn't that Turn Evil is the best CC in the game, its the fact that other "best-in-game" abilities are class-locked.

You can make the argument that access to skills from other classes may destroy class identity...and that may be true...but that doesn't mean its a bad thing, as an example, there is nothing more frustrating that being a Templar or a DK fighting against a Sorc or a Nightblade....you try to close and fight and they just run away or hide....but if YOU need to run or hide, its impossible with that match up. People also like to make the argument that the same toolbox would lead to the same meta, but that argument is garbage too, since the meta is the meta regardless, there will always be some build that is "best" for the content...and meta chasers are always going to play that build regardless. The fact is that expanding toolboxes in a way that anyone can access will allow people more leeway to play something else and allows more flexibility....I couldnt care less if PvP is full of 10,000 people playing DKs that can streak and cloak...that just means that PvP is truly balanced and that the result of a fight comes down purely to skill and strategy...and isn't that what PvP players are always saying they want?

I'm not sure about having them cast skills, but what about a dungeon buff you cast at the start of the dungeon, group buffing everyone for half an hour.

Legendary ones would be trial buffs that last 2 hours.

    Probably disabled in pvp.
